Great job on the Hangtown track changes and track prep. It seemed like every section had at least two lines which resulted in tons of passing and great racing.
They should take notes for the rest of the year and make similar changes at other tracks with one lined sections.
Agree 💯 and so did Eli on Twitter. Hope MXSports notices and keeps from over watering/deep ripping as they head East
Can you post the tweet please?

Track was good. Changing it because Lawrence wrecked is pretty weak though.
Credit goes to Billy Hilton, President of the Dirt Diggers. He took over the track director role this year and hit a clear home run with the changes and prep.
Amazing track this year! Lot’s of passing opportunities. The only thing I’d change is the start. Every year we have crazy crashes because there is no room for error on the outside
Expect changes. I hear Washougal is moving their start 30 yards closer to turn 1 for this reason. Grates, launch control, and start maps are putting too many guys in the same place at the same time, at speed.
There was great racing and lots of passes.
60 amateur motos and not a single first turn crash in 2024. Not one.
I have been working the start line at Hangtown since 1989. Forget what year the start went to its current spot but it has been like it is a long time. 20+ years possibly? Crashes happen here and there.

I think the grates we have to use now are keeping everyone too close off the start. Add the fact they get a ton of practice starts. 10 minutes of practice starts plus they line up for track practice on the actual gate now too and get one off. Supercross season with the same grates as well. They all have these things down.
Dirt Diggers are just good people- except when they give me shit for riding my bicycle through the pits after the race yesterday.
what a great track- congrats to them…
I didn't know that, ofcourse!
Anyways, I saw the crash in 250 moto 1 and I remembered a few of them happened at the nationals the past few years
Will say having structures or equipment on the outside of the first turn not a good idea. The one rider went through the hay bales and it looked like he hit something?
Thank lawyers and insurance companies and lawsuits. Diggers don't want to do this. They don't have a choice.
That one was the one on the inside right? I was standing right there. 20’ away. I happened to ver close to the other one that happened as well. Crap may be its me! 😳

While I'm not a fan of the California tracks, I will say they did an excellent job with track prep and the updated layout was very good.
If that's the case nice work Billy and we hope you make changes at other tracks to unlock the track for great racing with multiple lines. This was the first race I've watched in a long time where I didn't see several sections of follow-the-leader one-lined slot car monototony. Great prep and layout. Chase was able to make 39 passes in one moto which is insane. It reminded me of racing before the 4 strokes took over.
They could actually cut down early to attempt passes and not be stuck in one damn long rut, good job!
Pit Row
Not only structures but they put a fucking ditch on the outside of the first turn. Watch the replay again, Boespflug body slams against the upside of that ditch. How, in 2024, are they still doing shit like this
Billy only handles Hangtown, but I agree some of the other places could borrow some of what his team did. I think it's a bit unique for the series in that the Dirt Diggers manage the event production. Assume most places the event is managed by the ownership, but of course Hangtown is a state property. REP Racing runs it for normal practice and races. Not sure how it's done elsewhere other than Washougal which the Huffmans own and oversee.
I definitely liked the changes. Thought the dirt was perfect on most of the track. Very raceable lines, new sections. Give that track director/designer a raise!
Track layout and prep was spot on, but there were way to many jumps, waves, and other shit.
Lets them race on the ground and move around the track.
Layout and prep is the best it’s been in years!
I was there all day Thursday with my sons racing and raced 4 Moto Friday, plus hundreds of starts over the years with the exact same start. I personally am a lot more timid on this start than most, but luckily for us there is a ton of separation and I didn’t see a single gate with more than 20 riders. If I was going up against 40 pros with perfect gates, I’d be terrified.
No more Deeeeebo.
I would argue there were too many BIG jumps and watering was atrocious between motos.
But overall I liked it. Hangtown gets a bad wrap. Rough, multiple lines, differing soil types etc etc makes for great racing/riding.
Yea I noticed lots of passing going on! 😲
Ha! A sweet Honda for you.
