What I love about Stews last to first was how casual he got up after that first turn crash, dusted his jersey off, then kicked the bike over cruised away and STILL got to 1st with 9 min to go.
If you are talking Toronto he had a helmet cam too.
All I want is this past Saturday's version of Sexton to get a holeshot with a healthy Jett behind him and see how that race would shake out. I feel like part of why Sexton has had a lack of success battling Jett 1v1 in the past is because he's typically spending a bunch of energy passing 3-5 guys just to catch up to Jett, whilst Jett has been chilling with a 5-10 sec gap for the whole moto and can just kick it up a notch once he realizes it's Sexton behind him and not someone else.

I do remember the exact year ; 76', 77" 78' ... At Lake Sugar Tree, watched Hannah fall in first turn and blast through the pack and I believe he won that moto... also I remember Domiskos riding a wheelie around the whole track
Herlings at Ironman was a spectacular performance. And maybe you give it a little extra credit for not being his normal race bike. But he wasn't actually last, although close. And he was given a gift with Marvin having a solid lead and the fastest lap, kind of gifting that moto to JH. Not to mention an Eli not racing to win. Some would say that Jett gifted it to Chase, but not in the same moto... So yeah, outstanding stuff by both, but slightly different.
Let the downvotes flow.
Eh it's different but has the same level of enabling reasons. I think there is definitely a time where it was undeniable Herlings was the fastest outdoor rider on the planet, and that's coming from a diehard Tomac fan.
I don't know if there has ever been an insane comeback win where there wasn't some reason certain people say it happened. Even Stewart's INSANE 2014 Toronto win - Villo was sick.
In the end, if you want to find reasons to take away from an epic ride, whatever. Someone will always be able to find them.
I've been watching for over 30 years and Sextons ride Saturday is on the tablet written in stone already as one of the best ever. At least in my opinion.
The most impressive part of Sexton going from 40th to 1st was that when he got off his bike and removed his helmet he was not even out of breath! This guy is in insane shape! That ride made beast mode look like kids stuff!
Thats usually the thing though for guys to have unreal rides I.E last to 1st it’s 90 percent Skill, work ethic and speed and 10 percent circumstance. Herlings in 2017 had things go his way and all the circumstances were in his favor. Top talent was out, top talent racing hurt and last race of year with Musquin crashing. But Herlings still did it. Just like Chase a top guy missing and Jett wasn’t Jett. But it takes nothing away from the rides. Like you said as well Stewart’s day in 2014 started with RV going to the hospital. Chases IMO is more impressive purely due to it being Round 2. You still can’t discredit these rides you can just point things out.
Exactly... No discredit at all to those performances.
Please don’t mention the H word on Vital! The place blows up!
Fastest and crashest man on the planet until Chase came along
People seem to forget just how fast Marv was going before he crashed that day. I'm not saying there's no way Herlings would have gotten him, but he sure as hell would have had to work a lot harder to make it happen.
As for Chase's ride on Saturday, it was absolutely one for the ages, and anyone who wants to discredit it because Jett crashed is a clown.
Herlings is fast but had a lot of injuries so I don’t know what that means or ranks him.
Yes that was great cause AP was gassed.
Aldon Baker just left the chat.
And at Three Rivers SX in 78.
Chase has to get his starts sorted out. I don't care how good he's riding. If he's spotting Jett 5-8 sec every moto, it's going to be a long summer.
Pit Row
I’d say that most would agree, in his prime, if he lined up healthy he was the odds on favorite to win every race.
He was the FMOTP when healthy. But I would have always bet on Tomac in an outdoor series due to how often Herlings was hurt.
Chase led more laps coming from last to first in 1 race than during the entire 2023 season.😵💫
Please remove Jett’s balls from your mouth
People only talk about balls but not middle-aged dudes with moobs or the thing attached to the balls that is the stick that gives these guys the shifter knob to run 5th gear on a chewed up national track 30 minutes in while we ride groomed summer bunny-slopes at the local ski resort still drinking hot cocoa between 10 minute ‘motos’ with NG tubes of camelback gatorade still required to make it to the lodge and back on our XR 200’s.

Tim Gajser -GoPro- going from pretty much last ot first - a bit easyer to do when you have only 28 riders on the line, but he got to 1 already on lap 11/18 also.
Would be awsome to see GoPro footage of Sextons race - pity that riders can't wear them anymore.
It actually makes me well up how she was seemingly soft and comforting and then as soon as she saw the bike come over the hill she snapped straight into firing him up its perfect parenting in that moment
Better question....how many of us normal dudes have ever done it locally?
The pros don’t typically crash a few times per race like the amateurs do so if a rider fell only once and then kept it upright the rest of the race it could happen. Or, riders milk classes like they sent HD down to the B class.
Question is when was the last time it happened. And you mention a rider doing it in the 70’s.
Olympics 2006 Female snowboarding I think 1st crashed out over last jump other 2 crashed as well & last 4th came in for the gold medal.
but impressed by Chase
Can’t top this great Aussie gold medal moment 😂
That was crazy, proves you gotta be in it to win it!
