First off I am not a racer, just a weekend warrior that likes to ride aggressive. Kicking around the idea of a 2024 RM-Z250. One, my weight is 200lbs and I know these come with stiff suspension. So I shouldn't have to waste money on a revalve and spring job. Two, they have that RM Army promotion again until 6/30/24. So the idea of getting a full PC T6 exhaust and Throttle Syndicate graphics with a new bike lures me in too. My dealer has the 2024 RM-Z250 at $6999+tax and that's it. Just looking for everyone's perspective on this to help me decide. Thanks

You’ll probably still need a revalve and springs.
aside from that they’re awesome bikes, extremely reliable and very good power delivery. Once set up, they handle and feel amazing.
Fun, blast to ride bike, especially at your weight. If you know how to adjust clickers, set sag, and possibly tinker with oil height then the stock suspension should be more than adequate. A better air filter and an air filter cage without the screen (available from NoToil and TwinAir) also help quite a bit. Make sure you get a tutorial from your dealer on how to use the tuning app/connection requirements, as the RM Army mapping can make as much or more of a difference than just the exhaust. Cheers
Biggest thing I don't like about my 2019 is I'm envious of my dad and brother who both have e-start. I'm a pretty small guy and when it's hot it's not always easy to start.
I could get a kx 250 for $7,400 otd and for the price difference it would be worth it to me. Though, I feel more comfortable on my brothers kx than my rmz, and that would help sway my decision.
If they are offering kx250 for $7400 OTD I would go that route in a hurry. E start along with updated components and if you get frisky Kawi bucks at the local tracks. Would need a spring and valve job but that about be expected with any purchase of a bike imo

Yup my dealer has the 24 Kawi 250 at about 7300 OTD and the 24 Kawi 450 at about 7500 OTD. That 450 price is crazy to think about.
I bought the 2024 and love it. The bike is reliable as they get, you wont regret buying one.
I have a 2018 and it’s completely fine.
I am in the 200 club as well. Only things I have changed…..
Ride Engineering Link
Removed Judder Springs (clutch)
Dunlop MX33’s
Pro Taper Bars
Kawi Torque Spec on engine mounts (not sure if this did anything at all)
Way softer on all of my clickers.
Bike is excellent on the motocross track. Especially in soft dirt. It turns better than any bike I have ever owned. Has a ton of torque and has been stone reliable so far. I don’t really have any beef with the shock either to be honest.
Off-road it’s been rude but I’m also riding east coast off road - lots of ruts, rocks and roots.
I got some serious decisions to make quick. Stopped by the dealer today and prices as follows...........
-2024 RM-Z250 w/full PC Exhaust and RMArmy Graphics Kit $7600OTD
-2024 KX450 $7450 OTD
-2024 KX250 $7350 OTD
I’m all about Suzuki’s but it’d be hard not to go with the KX250 with the prices you’re offered. They’re both great bikes, let us know what you end up with!
I'm not a big Kawi guy, but they're good bikes and their blowout pricing makes them an easy decision.
No way I’m passing that 450, but completely depends on your style and what you want
I love suzukis and they are great and reliable bikes but at those prices i wouldnt even look at it. Kx 250 or 450 all day every day. I almost bought 19 rmz back in 2020 just before shit hit the fan. Their great bikes and nothing wrong with them. It was 6,400 otd last minute Duclos at rock river yam called me and said he could do 6,400 otd on a 19 yz250f. Also got some extra parts for cheap from old race team stock like a set of wheels for $250. Had Big st charles called me back sooner might have still taken their new offer at 5,950 otd.
If there is a time that you have to get a 450, it is now. How can that price be passed up?
the kx450 is a steal at that price .,
It’s just simply dumb to buy a ‘24 RMZ when you could get the same thing like new for $1000s less in a new or like new model from ‘19-‘23.
Your probably right. From a money standpoint the KX450 is the best bang for your buck. Heading back to the dealer first thing in the morning. I'll post some pics of what I get.
Man, really odd thoughts and wordering in the original post.
Pit Row
Yea, it's really odd to be talking about buying a dirt bike on a dirt bike forum. What a weirdo
Kawasakis are yunk,worst reliable bikes
You’re not dumb. I used the wrong choice of words. If I had to chose an RMZ, I would chose the best deal between a 2019 - 2023.
I had a brand new 2019 bone stock and it was perfect for me. Did everything I wanted. 190lbs vet intermediate. Honestly if they came with the magic button I’d go back to the RMZ. Everyone bags on the engine but I had a Kawi and to me the RMZ was better. Lots of low end torque. Feels like a mini 450. If you aren’t racing it’s all you need.
Im not sure how the rmz is even a possibility sitting next to a cheaper 24 kx450... For that money theres no way id even consider an rmz. Soon as you leave its with 4k or less.. kx is reportedly tame for a 450 off the show room. Buy the new 24 kx450 or buy a used cheap rmz off marketplace..
I bought 2022 leftover RMZ450 great bike for this older vet rider, but If I my dealer had the same price on a RMZ250 I definitely would have gone the 250 route.
I'd like to thank everyone for their opinions and helping me out.
Got to be a good rider to even need a 450 over a 250 at 200lbs. 250 is WAY more fun on mx track. Its not even really a comparison. Just because its a good price isnt a good enough reason to get the 450. If you are a good mx rider, and can legit use the 450 power, by all means, jump on it. For me, 450's just arent any fun.
At least one of us has some common sense!!!
What I will say to this is it depends on where you ride. I had went back to the 250 in 2019 because my 450 was to much for the tracks I was riding. It wasn’t any fun. Hardly took any effort to get over anything on the tracks I was riding at. It just felt like to much bike and I got bored. Then I moved to Houston area and my main track is 3palms. Lots of sand and bigger jumps. I was riding the 250 to its limit a lot and it didn’t feel safe. I felt like I was trashing the bike. So I went back to a 450 for now. So much funner on that track. The 250 was wayyy better at Rio Bravo though. So it has a lot to do with where you plan to ride it most. Hardpack to to intermediate dirt I love a 250 better.
FYI - Kawi added weight and detuned the motor on the ‘24 450 and everyone likes it (except MXA of course).
