Does adding a megabomb header on a newer 350 make a difference compared to the stock header?  Thanks!

If you don’t have a vortex ECU from twisted or XPR i would highly suggest investing in that before an exhaust, the KTM OEM exhaust is hard to beat!

As the owner of a 350, I feel like expensive mods to a 350 engine are stupid, as in getting a 450 would make more sense.

If you want to get tired more easily then that would be the solution, yes.

This gave me a good giggle. I have friend who bought a 350 and has been dropping $$$ to make the thing faster.

He looked at me with a stupid grin on his face when I quietly suggested that a 450 would have been a cheaper base.

For me I’m looking at a 350 for my next bike. I want the feeling of a 250 with the power of a 450. So a modded 350 would achieve that.
I dislike the feel of 450s due to the crank mass but 350s have the same crank as a 250. So it’s a win getting away from that heavy feeling of a 450 but still having the speed of one.

Kinda like kids over here in the US putting a lot of money into Honda Civics instead of just buying a cooler car to start with. I had a 2021 gasgas 450 before my 23 350. I thought the gasgas 450 was better and pretty mellow for a 450. I like the 350, but the next bike will be a 450 that comes with spring forks.

Kiernan mx : "350s have the same crank as a 250".

Well, no -the current 250 has a 48.5mm stroke, the 350 has a 57.5mm stroke. And that, makes it a different crank.

While I agree a 350 is less 'unwieldy' than a 450,  and, a great thing, it certainly  feels different to the 250.

With current rebates a KTM 450 is cheaper than a 350.

Sorry mate I read an article that said the crank weight of a 250sxf and 350sxf was the same but it must be mistaken. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

I want to see some videos of you guys that are wringing these 350's out so hard that you need more power.

No sorry needed.

I find it fascinating that there is so much difference in feel between the 350 and 450. The 450 has a stroke of 63.5mm, which is less than the difference between the current 250 and 350.

And, that the 250 /350 are twin cam, as against the single cam 450.  It's a Completely different engine, and  everything is just that bit Bigger with the 450.

I think the 250 / 350 have the same diameter cranks 'wheels', and the same crank cases, so it's quite the 'miniature' motor.

I'd love to set up / see a 'gimbled' engine mount type test, and run various engines whilst checking all the Giro and other forces generated. It would be quite an education, as to what / why we 'feel' when on different bikes.

I hear you, but I've had some Civics in recently that have probably £40k>£60k in them and they'll dust cars twice their price, either on track or up the strip.

Some people just like to tinker 🙂

Usually these people are relatively slow riders that can't get the 350 into the right RPM range. Same goes for the 250 class. The Yamaha is "much more" powerful compared to other bikes for these riders because the Yamaha has the best low end power, and they ride the 250 in the "wrong" way because they are just not fast enough to wring it out as a high reving machine should be ridden.

I wonder what the crank weights are from each bike and how similar the 250-350 are.

Can't emphasise enough how much difference a LoudMouth filter setup made on my 350 many moons ago. Great bang for the buck too.

Yeah this is my 2nd season on my 350 and I still find myself wondering if I wanna get back on a 450. I still have my 450. I need to bring them both to the track with me and ride them back to back. I just think I didn't get to ride much last year so I'm blaming the bike and not me. A 350 is plenty and doesn't rip my arms out of my sockets. But a 450 is like that hot ex-gf, who was crazy. You're always thinking about what she's up to and giving her a call

I've been a 350 owner for about 4 months now (2022 sxf).
Previous bikes include 450s but mostly 250 smokers.

My only "complaint" about the 350 is compression braking and I've read that the ignition mod is the best way to deal with it. Unfortunately it's not in my budget so I'll just deal with it. I am old enough (50) to remember appreciating the opportunity to ride anything that was available/affordable. So a little excess compression braking isn't going to sour me on the 350. It's more flickable than a 450 and isn't as dangerous when my fat old ass gets tired. I race occasionally for fun. Don't need a rocketship and don't need to be working as hard as a smoker requires.

No, it won’t make a difference.

A megabomb/powerbomb is a Helmholtz resonator and does more for decibel reduction than it does change the power. The stock KTM already has one of those built into the header, so you’ll notice practically zero difference.

Curve and diameter are what change (not add to) the power characteristics.

If you wish to buy an aftermarket product simply because you want to, do it. It looks cool.

The vet class arms race makes it tough to compete on my favorite old YZ125 so the 350F is ideal.
I'm not a heavy guy (currenty 165lbs) and I can't imagine I need more power.

Riding around in 3rd gear and using the torque works well for me!

^^^^ This... And the reason why the GasGas models that do not have a resonator in the header pipe have the Cone restrictor thing in the muffler. I've had a bunch of Austrian bikes (mostly 350's) and the factory exhaust is very good. But there's also nothing wrong with buying the Mega bomb, especially if you can get someone to map the bike to the exhaust.
