also saw a few people saying something along the lines of “he crashes on a 250, what makes you think he’d handle a 450.”

seriously? Dude is a PROFESSIONAL and the average Joe is allowed to ride a 450, why on earth are you thinking that Austin can’t handle a 450 but Joe at the local track can 🤦‍♂️

These riders are often training on a 450 and in Austins case a 450 could help. Its lower revving, and more ‘calm’.

I wouldn't mind seeing Savatgy give it a shot as he thinks he deserves a factory ride.

Savatgy is riding for Triumph. I doubt he burns that bridge and what is most likely a longer term deal just so he can be a fill-in for a couple months.

Have you listened to AC's retirement podcast? He talks about riding after retirement and that he might get a 250 instead of a 450 because it is so much easier to hold on to.

Yea, because he has nerve damage that affects his arm even after texting on his phone.

We have seen that in the past, after a rider's injury or retirement, teams have not signed anyone as a replacement rider, which makes me wonder: What does a team gain by having a replacement driver, who you know will only race a few races and most likely will not be in your team the following season? Fullfil sponsorship obligations is the first answer, but apart from that, how does it afect in bike development, results, marketing...

I just came up with an idea, which sounds stupid, I know, but if having a substitute rider what brings you the most is to fulfill sponsorship obligations, to such an extent that sometimes it is profitable to breach such obligations, why not keep your sponsors happy with someone who will make many, many people look at your bike and your stickers, just because the one who is riding your bike is not just anyone. A phone call to that random guy won't hurt, and he'll most likely say no, but what do you have to lose by trying? If you get it right, you gain a lot, and if you don't, you lose nothing, not the whole season, but at least a race. Again, nothing to lose.

I would imagine that DF14 is trying to move heaven and earth to get out of the Phoenix Honda deal immediately. Instant podium guy. Pretty sure that it was said pre season by several people that the Phoenix Honda + DF14 equation wouldn't last long anyways.

This is the problem with our sport.  He loves the bike during pre season, and now he has to get off the thing for another factory bike?

Not gelling with two bikes in two years isn't about the machine, its about the rider.  Title winner or not.

Oh, irony if Schock gets the ride...

you guys are acting like Austin is a shitty outdoor rider lol. Hes never really been able to get a solid base to come into outdoors recently. In 2022 he raced pala and was top 5 but had to sit out cause his collarbone wasn’t fully recovered from the Jett cross jump. Ran a very solid P4 at Budds last year, then a come through the field P4 at Ironman Moto 1 last year aswell. He was just starting to get the ball rolling when the season ended.

Yeah, I don't get it. The major injury was last year. The guy was riding the best of his life and had winning speed. They think the latest injury provides a physical impairment evidently. The kid has always been able to turn it up. Turning it down is the issue.

Are they likely to find a contender for race wins?? Probably not..

In which case, it would be cool if they create a spectacle! Don’t sign a rider for the full season, keep the seat free for guest riders to pop in for one off weekends.

is McGrath somewhat bike fit? Let him take a round! Tell me this wouldn’t create massive exposure for the Green team and their sponsors?! His results won’t matter..

Ryno??

Emig??

Forkner if he’s feeling better but can’t contest the 250 class?

who is free in Europe for a round?

Use some imagination and create a buzz. It’s not necessarily about winning.

Kawasaki have an opportunity to do something extraordinary. They should use their imagination.

I don't see them using anyone in their 50's, and none of those guys would want to do it anyway.

If forkner is healthy he's a 250 title contender, I see him staying there.  His speed was obvious until the mistake.

Probably no one , I think they threw enough money away the last 4 yrs.

Ooo, harsh. That's something I would've said tho. Kawasaki needs new contract structuring literally because of AC and Forkner's crashing habits.

Do we really have people putting McGrath out there? Dude hasn’t raced a professional race in 18 years, get out of here with that nonsense. Let’s see what Ron Lechein is up to… I see Chicken has been riding a Kawi at GH m, maybe he can do it… just imagine the buzz….

How many factory 450 guys have not hit the ground this year?

I've always thought it would be a cool thing to bring around a decent rider that has been working his ass off to make events, has the skill to put it into the night show and create a cool story, a rider like Zach Williams, Kevin Moranz, a full privateer that would so appreciate being allowed to finish the year, with no expectation beyond that, particularly outdoors.

I know what you all are going to come back with, but if this were my world, I'd do it this way once in a while.

Yep 2004. I think he got caught up in a couple first turn crashes.

Why is it such a dumb idea?

Nobody is expecting him to win/podium/top ten even!

But it would put a lot of interested eyes on the bike & team sponsors. And thats what this business is all about.

I would love to see Masterpool get a shot. It's his 2nd year on Kawi. He became very popular last season outdoors running with some factory riders at times. We know he's tough. The kid put off having his appendix taken out when they burst, and elected to take antibiotics and gut out the rest of the season to compete and show what he has.
