The whole "SuperMotoCross" thing has always felt weird to me. That being said, after the boring track layouts of this years supercross, these look unique. Longer lap times! Riders may actually have to shift here and there. Throw in a long whoops or rollers section and I'm sold.
In before the Phil guy has a meltdown about the over under bridge.
Video game vibes, in a good way
the SMX tracks are a blue M&M in a bag full of red M&Ms
Looks like they actually put some thought into them. These tracks look pretty damn good!
We should have tracks like this all 17 rounds of SX This bikes have outgrown baseball/football stadiums.
Charlotte finish line makes more sense being in the center of the grandstands viewing area.
There is not a split lane like there was last year. That split section worked really well.
The starts at zMax really will be a drag race, those are some long straights! I wonder what the protocol is if someone goes down in the first corner on the right side though? Seems like they have a tight window before the whole field is coming down it in the opposite direction but I'm sure it's probably fine.
Basically the same start as last year
What a scam. 5 tickets for the Vegas round cost me $1,040 and another $600 for a hotel for 2 nights. Gonna be a $2k+ night for maybe 75 minutes of racing.
That's not true at all. Yeah it is a split start but that's the only similarity. They literally 2x the distance of the start by having them double back the entire length of the start straight before the holeshot line. On top of that, last year's shared lane had the traffic going in the same direction and the first turn was beyond the reused straight-a-way. The biggest difference here is that this one has the shared lane running in opposite directions and after the first turn. So if someone is slow to get up on a first turn crash on that side, let's say it takes them 20 seconds to get going, they would be heading directly into high speed oncoming traffic. I wonder if they will just have them run along the side line or something if that happens.
I'm loving the creative designs of these tracks so please don't think I'm shitting on it, just wondering what the fail safe is in that specific but realistic instance.
For the split starts, isn't there a wall in the middle of the first turns either direction? The maps don't show it but it's there everywhere else if you follow it down the drag strip lanes.
I suggest one change for Vegas...put two over under bridges back to back and change that section of the track. Something like this...white would be the second over/under. I'd love to see someone boot it the first lap and clear both. Idk if they would be able to clear both after the first lap with the turn before the first over/under.
Pit Row
There wasn’t a wall in Charlotte more like a foot tallV shaped mound so they could cross it when headed to the finish line jump.
How come these tracks are 35% flat track??
because dirt is expensive
Those sections are meant to get rough as shit and form natural moguls, like Daytona. The "moto" part of supermotocross. Without those sections these would just be spec supercross tracks, albeit longer.
