i recently purchased my first domestic vehicle ever. sticker price over 50. 

by far the WORST paint i've ever seen in my life. there are literal splotches of clear coat pools all over the underside of the trunk and in the door jambs that look like cum stains. 

I PROUDLY ripped the UAW sticker off the door frame day 1.

I “settled” for a GMC 1500 AT4 with the 3.0 Duramax. I’ve owned a lot of trucks but I’ve never been more impressed with a power train than this small Duramax with the 10 speed trans. It pulls my 7,000 pound travel trailer with ease while getting 13-15 MPG. In town, it gets over 20 MPG and 25-28 MPG on the highway while unloaded. 

Totally agree, the 3.0 duramax is impressive, I came from tundras, then to 250's ford,ram and chevy. I did not need the 2500 anymore so I bought a duramax suburban, get around 27mpg on average hitting low 30's on the freeway, pulls a 28' tritoon with downriggers,trolling motor and all my gear easily, gets better mileage towing than I did on my tundras without towing. Really like the inline 6 diesel , so far it has been reliable, only 30k on it. I also enjoy the 10 speed transmission, its buttery smooth.

I love the older-gen Tudras but I can somewhat understand wanting something more modern. Depending on the condition of it, it may not be as expensive as you think, to keep it. I've had a couple Tacomas now. Currently have a '19 TRDOR that has been great. The 4th gen have some nice features and are nice looking trucks. I am a bit worried about all the the more complex engines and features that are starting to come on trucks now though. Even though Toyota is a great brand, I'm not sure if it's possible for these newer trucks to be as easy to live with as the more simple, prior models. I could be wrong but I will hang onto mine for a bit and see how the 4th gens are holding up. It seems like the latest Tundra has had mixed reviews on durability,  even though they seem to perform well. To answer the question, if I had to get a new truck right now, I'd still get a new Taco or Tundra but between the upfront cost to buy and potential issues with the newer models straying away from previous-gen to keep up with current trends, it could be a bit of a headache.

I'm poor and cheap.  Unless I win the lottery I'll never have another new vehicle.  It's not just the initial price but the cheap crappy electronics, turbos, and such.  

I'm about to start a complete rebuild on a "98 F150 351 extended cab 4wd.  Mileage sucks but I know how to fix everything on it.  I reckon it'll cost about 10k for what I want to do.  Can't touch a used pos for that money.Whistling

Your vehicle was painted by a non-UAW robot. All decisions about the programming of that robot and decisions about the materials used and the painting process were all made by non-UAW engineers.

It's not the 1950's anymore, the human factor in the quality of a vehicle has been nearly completely removed. Everything a UAW worker does is checked and back checked by automated systems.

Stupid trivia fact....I read several years back that a survey indicated that most American consumers actually thought that "orange peel" was how the paint was supposed to look.

Bowling Green makes Corvettes. There are different processes there than at any "regular" plant, different price point too.

I’ve been driving a 2019 Tacoma Double Cab for the last three years, and I love it! I don’t need a full-size half-ton truck, so it’s pretty perfect for me. I’m looking longingly at a new 2024 model… it then again I might just stay in the ‘19 for another 100k miles or so. It’s what you buy Toyota for.

This truck went through absolute hell every weekend for many moons lol. I drove this pile through all the hills behind San Clemente, Dana Point and San Juan. Launched it in the air on the former "Dana Dips" in Dana Point, did hill climbs with guys bouncing up and down in the bed to get traction, just beat it into submission, it was awesome lol. 72 Chevy "LUV" truck with an Izusu 4 cylnder motor. I truly believe if a manufacturer brought back a small simple base model work truck I bet they'd sell every one. Pretty sweet rattlecan job eh ? Laughing

Not sure about all the supposed new tundra issues. 38k and counting on my 22 no issues drives like a dream and gets 19 mpg, and has power for days. No tranny issues for me.

Since we're all posting pics of our trucks. Loved my 05 1st gen Tundra. It had the 4.7 V8 that sucked gas down like crazy tho.

Bought this 2nd gen in 2012 and still have it. It barely gets driven at all because I have 2 other vehicles, but I just can't bring myself to sell it. No issues with it other than replacing a brake light bulb last year. 

I wouldn't worry about getting a twin turbo truck, they all come with at least 60k mile warranties. I think the Colorado's look better than the Tacoma's.  Good luck with whatever you pick..

 Nothing beats a van for moto tho....  🤷‍♂️

Generally the truck has been great to me but parts are simply aging out and it's going to get increasingly expensive and I'd like something more modern.

I've owned most brands in the past and have really had good luck with the Toyota Tundra but see that the modern Tacoma is basically the same size as my older version - which worked well, but a tad more cab space would be welcome. I also had a chance to ride in a neighbor's F150 crew cab for quite a while and was very impressed.

So let's hear your thoughts on these trucks as everyday drivers that get moto duty as well!

I crack up people that post bragging about their fuel economy in a truck.  Sure you get that.....if you are running light, small diameter street tires, no lift, and driving habits of an 80 year old grandma while going down hill with a tail wind.  The second you lift or level it, throw on some bigger off road all terrain tires (which are heavier and have more rolling resistance), go off road or haul something and then drive it like you stole it, those MPGs are vastly different than stock off the showroom.

My mechanic who’s worked on my cars for years told me if I get a ford, take it somewhere else, he hates working on them and refuses it. Always sending my articles on how unreliable they are compared to chevys and Toyotas.

All I can say, is when I hit a deer with my 06 Taco with 268k miles and the insurance totaled it, they gave me a $16k check. That was a clear indication to pick up another Tacoma. I have a 20 with the "long" bed so I can load a bike sideways and close the tailgate.

The f150 10 speed transmissions are shit . There are recalls now for 22-23 and class action suit for previous years with the 10 speed . I've had Ford's my whole adult life and I'm done with them now . I'd personally get the new GM truck with the 3.0 Duramax
