I consider him to be the best announcer/analyst as well as the most knowledgeable on MX fundamentals. Add in David winning multiple championships, it has always perplexed me that his level of expertise has not led to more involvement in our sport.

I have no idea. I do seem to remember that he had some health issues that pulled him out of the booth. Don't know if he's recovered or not.
I have no idea as I don’t know him personally. I did see him at the Carlsbad reunion around 6 months ago and he looks like he is in fantastic shape. If I had to take a guess it would be the traveling for what may be a minimal amount on $$
I believe I read somewhere that he was tired of the traveling of being in the booth. Maybe that is what is keeping him away now
This. He came out of retirement in 2009 or whatever it was for the nationals and did a season or two. But traveling when you are in a chair is really challenging. I think he prefers to hang back and keep a lower profile, with an occasional interview, and focus on his own life.

I mean he was very involved for years as probably the best commentator weve ever had. Eventually he got older and stepped away due to health reasons, theres nothing wrong with that imo.
Your idea of a dream job, is someone elses daily nightmare.
Tons of travel, to essentially do the same thing week in week out. And there is a lot of prep work to do as well .
I would assume that he has a good income stream somewhere that he doesnt want to have to shuffle round everything for as well.
He had his time and he was great, but sometimes you have to let other folk have a go.
You could also say that as a colour guy, he isnt relevant to the modern audience, there are guys racing SX now who never saw Carmichael race, let alone Bailey, and therefore the level of respect he gets from my generation, is way higher than your current regular guy in his 20's and 30's.
Never said he wasn't knowledgeable, very professional.Knows his stuff.Im saying for the average viewer. The broadcasts nowadays are more exciting for the average viewer. Not motoheads like most of us. I would rather watch Nationals from the 80s and 90s because of 2 strokes. I'm old school. I think DB is great. Never ASSUME

I think David would be great in the booth but I don’t think he is “animated” enough for the current management structure. Too analytical for them.

I thought he has been having health issues the 5 or 6 years!

It would be pretty cool have him commentate at a few races a year that are closer to him, I'm not hating but David would embarrass RC in the booth.

Maybe he just doesnt want to be.

Maybe he like retirement.
Him and Art were top tier
DB was great in the booth. Very knowledgeable, but kind of monotone.RC is doing great. Not boring. Him and Weege are doing great in the booth.
Probably living his best life, for him
I get it, as fans we dig what these guys did and have to say, but life goes on, thankfully!
Did he ever go on the whiskey throttle show? I don’t recall
I'm pretty sure he did.
He should just be one of announcers and remote in from home. Best announcer to date personally.
Or do the races online like the Mannings do MNF. 🤔🤔🤔🤔
lol, yeah no
He is involved: www.chasingthecool.com
Rest assured, whatever Dave is doing right now is more lucrative than announcing motocross races.
Pit Row
Man he’s so full of knowledge and super observant of whats happening on the track. I do miss him in the both. More than just a Fing legend

Wasnt he racing across the country with Wardy and Mickey Diamond a few years ago? Savages
