"His ability to control the bike at such high speeds is something we have literally never seen" 😏
Just because you didn't see it doesn't mean it didn't happen. Darn I feel stupid typing that..
The only reason is his age? Not his speed, talent, technique, or the results he's already achieving?
Jett rides so different than everyone else with his back and staying in his perfect triangle even in the roughest sections that require amazing balance. Feet will still be on the pegs and he is calm during the motos. Hard to beat
Not a Jett fanboy by any means. But his accomplishments and how he is doing it demands respect. I’m just after good racing

Unless there is someone on the rise I'm not aware of, it is inevitable that barring injury Jett will retire as the winningest rider ever in both disciplines. I challenge you to name one rider younger than Jett that you foresee stealing the crown from him. Obviously, no one can predict the effects of injury on the equation, but barring disaster, Jett is poised to have quite a run over the next decade.
I meant his age is a big part of what you describe.
Big Jett fan here. I posted many months ago that I didn't think Jet would get the 72 wins because I thought the sport would change with the inclusion of electric bikes. With all the new manufacturers jumping in, I'm finding myself seeing the integration taking much longer. If the sport stays as it is, I absolutely see him passing 72 wins. why not? People claim there will be people coming up that are fast. My response is, "you don't think he's going to better also?" Jett's skill is not stagnant. Whoever comes up will have to deal with an even faster Jett. And the biggest thing of all is that he stays healthy. I believe he has a much better chance of staying healthy because of his mental maturity. He builds a comfortable lead and then rides at a comfortable level. Has he had a few mishaps? Sure, but doesn't everyone? I think when he gets some bad starts he's learning racing technique from the masters as he races through the pack. This experience is invaluable to him as he advances his career. There's a lot to be learned following.
He truly is the perfect age. Nobody near his level anywhere close to him in age. All the top guys who battled each other for a decade are about to retire and/or have clearly lost a step. Sexton will be the closest one to him in age and he appears to have him covered based on the two series they’ve raced against each other thus far.
You never know what can happen with injuries (Roczen) and stuff like that, but it's looking pretty grim for his competition out there.
Sexton is by far the closest one to him the coming 5 years? I don't think Sexton has passed Jett Lawrence once since Jett got on a 450 (i'm not counting races where Jett has crashed)? That is wild. Imagine the closest rival for wins and titles the coming years (or maybe whole career) hasn't even made a single pass on you?
People are completely deluded if they don't think Jett is a serious threat to every single current US MX/SX record.
It does not seem like a lot of talent coming up after him Eitehr , deegan looked good last year but has not seemed to have improved this year . If anything the injuries have slowed him ? Reynolds and Ryder d have not fired in the pro fields , towers is not looking great in futures , , who’s the next great amateur hope ?
I watched James' run at Daytona when he OTB'd out of a corner after a lap or 2 of sending it over the wall and pulling 2sec on Villo each time. I have said that nobody rides like Jett other than Chase whose a hybrid of the older style (Tomac is basically the epitome of the "old" style myself and many other people ride like, nobody can do it faster than ET3) and this "new" style/technique. Chase was the first dude I saw staying centered (not hanging off the back much) most of the time but now and then you see him getting out of sorts where Jett is like a robot that is always centered and in the best position on his bike. I admit now that I see some of this insane balance with Stew at his peak (I just needed to watch him race again) but the style was different to Jett, although the balance I can see was very high level with Stew. Makes me wonder if Stew was ever taught the "new school" style how different his career may have been longevity wise as the centered position with lots of leg/lower torse movement seems to mean less* crashing than usual. Although stew's style was the "new" style in his time. Could be anecdotal but anyway - if you race bikes I dont know how you cant be a fan of Jett and the technique, its literally game changing.
How many mud races for each of those seasons would be a good addition too...
The stats arent a true reflection of the starts of their careers though. The other 3 guys had experience the year before. In the case of Reed he caught fire in the second half of that season so his stats are good but become great by seasons end tbh.
But for sake of all things being equal, the first 9 races for each rider.
The fact Jeremy was not close to Dungey at the same point in their careers yet by the end is miles ahead of literally everyone shows that its not really much use reading into stats so early into their careers. Chad after 2 seasons was probably one of the best win rates ever. Which helped him be in a respectable place on all time list. But still way short of the king.
It's pretty simple right now. Nobody is as good as he is. There is nobody currently in the pipeline who seems capable of beating him. It seems not even close. But 72 wins? That is 7 a year for 10 years or 10 a year for 7 years, that is a tough ask with injuries and all.
I'm guessing McGrath did not make close to the money Jet is making from day 1.
That will be Jetts biggest single thing to overcome. After 4 seasons in 450, he will have banked what, 30 million usd in total through is career, and won everything there is multiple times over? Most likely still only be half way to McGrath 72 if he wins 50% of the races.
Why keep going another 5-6 years, what will motivate him?
Maybe the goal of "72" Or "7" crowns. Maybe "Goat 2.0"
That's the obvious, or if he has other financial goals. But to go that long, when you don't have to? Who else ha done that? I cant think of anyone but maybe there is. Villopoto out, Stewart out, Dungey out. And they probably will not be close to Jett in win streak over multiple years.
The guys that keep going, hasn't had the streak Jett is most likely on his way to have. Maybe its good if he "just" wins every other year aiming for 3 in a row, because he will still get the SX wins and be motivated to rack of titles in a row.
Anyway, just real bench racing topic and speculation.
Pit Row
I have said this before, but a long time ago MC was asked about James breaking his record and he stated something to the effect of "I hope James makes a ton of money and loses the fire to go after my record" or something like that, implying that James would get soft and distracted and not stay on the grind, and he turned out to be right in the end. To this day I think James was the best bet to break MC's record, but he let shit get in his way (Bubba's world, etc). If his focus stayed absolutely singular I think he would have yarded MC, but fell way short in the end. Time will tell with Jett-so hard to stay on this grind, limit distractions (social media, yikes) and everyone blowing smoke up your ass.....RC is the goat because he just fucking stayed in 100% till the end, even when he went part time he wouldn't allow Stew to win outdoors and had to ride to the absolute limit to beat him-this is perhaps the most impressive thing about RC-the guy went full send to the end. THE GOAT.
No one gives much credit to Dax Bennick either. He will be a force as soon as he gets more high level experience. He gets better and better all the time.
I don't care what anyone says, I don't think anyone wants to see someone come along and break their record.
Ricky always acts gracious, but I don't believe him for a second. He is a fierce competitor who was driven to be the best and has no interest in anyone beating him. He acted stoked for Eli when he beat his Daytona record, but I'd bet my house that he was replaying in his mind Daytona races that he lost or was injured and missed. At least Jeremy is being honest.
Surprised the Jett fangirls haven't made this a 10 pager yet..
Revive this thread IF he even gets in the top 5 all time wins list.
Barring injury he will most likely surpass MCs total win count of 89 before he is 25. Which is pretty insane.
I will say it again, 150 is the number saying 72 belittles RC. Holding onto MCs 72 helps you forget that RC had 142 wins at only 26.
At the moment it looks like the only person that can beat Jett is Jett. He has already figured out what is really going to take. He mentioned that in the press conference. It sounds like he is riding with a lot more maturity. This in his first SX season is a little scary.
Anyhoo...I'm a big Lawrence family fan but I just don't see him hitting 73. I just don't believe the stars will align like they did for MC. I don't think MC had it any easier than Jett. I think MC winning 72 is just a freak thing that won't happen again.
So 28 down and 122 to go.....
If talking about 72 belittles RC then calling Ricky the Goat when he wasn't the best Supercross racer ever belittles McGrath.
F around and find out record chasers..
At the pace he is going, he could hit RC's-150 before he hits MC's-72!
If his career is as long as Tomac who has 51 wins he will certainly surpass 72...
I think something else to consider is these past few years guys have been focusing more on the big picture and taking a 3rd or whatever and looking at the big picture I don't think this was as common back in the day. Although Jett seems like he just wants to win no matter what sometimes.
Are wins or championships more impressive?
If you remember Jett nosepicking it chasing Dylan down a few years ago you know his big picture is a desire to win.
Post a reply to: The case for Jett beating 72 wins..........
