Honestly, one persons actions aren’t really the whole team’s or the company’s fault. But, yes…it’s a bad look and it’s a far cry from the “professionalism” that the team is suppose to represent.
Last week I was at an ISDE Qualifier and Team KTM’s representatives were Exemplar. All of them. From the riders that were having some very challenging days to the mechanics that were VERY busy to the management that was beyond accommodating and appreciative. They were AWESOME and they truly represented KTM very, very well.
Look, everyone has a bad day now and then. And when we shit on people, we should go back and apologize.
That’s where I’m coming from.

Media team need to stick together and call them out on this, especially if it was wide open in public.
they stick together and not cover any KTM riders or team promotion. This is there only draw card and point of leverage until an apology is made. This would hurt them more than a rider making a change that, let’s be real is a mental thing for him.
Good grief team KTM. You look stupid now. I actually thought trying whatever it was you were trying with the forks was great. Shows commitment to doing anything and everything to help your riders be comfortable and faster. But when it gets out (and it’s not like it wasn’t hard to see), you go total douche bag mode on ML. Now you look like total idiots. Just apologize, admit you were wrong for blowing up ML, move on and keep working on improving the bike for Sexton. You look worse now than anything you could have done with the bike.
Honestly, all the media needs to do is…
“We reported this or that…& this is what they did or said to us about it.”
Just tell the story: ALL OF IT.
Ultimately they made Michael out to be some kind of bad guy for DOING HIS JOB…hence, they got caught running some “other hardware”…they could’ve just SAID NOTHING and let it go at that. But, instead…someone from the team went about it ALL WRONG.
In the end, I LIKE the fact that KTM had the balls to run something out of the ordinary AND IT APPARENTLY WORKED! But, and these are my words…Chase DID have a damn good night!

KTM jumped into the sport here in the USA “all over again” when they hired Roger and Ryan and they changed the game. I’m still stoked about that!
Along with their creation of the orange era, buying Husaberg & then bringing Husky back and ultimately relaunching GasGas…they’ve done A HELLUVA LOT for my sport. They represent no less than 3 Factory Teams in the paddock and plenty of support teams. Their contribution to Off-Road Racing…in the USA & globally is HUGE.
Like any large corporate entity…their politics can get a bit sticky. I think the internal politics, egos and typical CYA optics got a little out of hand on this matter that we’re discussing…
It’s that simple.
For the record: if one of my team mechanics or suspension techs said,”Hey, you know…we could try that kit that KYB has & see how it works?”…well, I’d be stoked to have that kind of resourceful crew and I’d certainly let them try new things that may help…especially if it yields good results…? But, there are probably some internal conflicts regarding “what” hardware was used…
As for WP? Hell, start making something along the lines of the cartridge that appears to work and start selling it! “Win-Win” as they say.
But, again…laying into a suspension savvy journalist for noticing what you’re doing? As one of the people I spoke to about last nights incident that actually happened outside of another teams pit…and I’m quoting…

Very recent and true story. Lower/entry level KTM support mini rider is having a problem with a part holding up. Mini riders dad calls someone at KTM. Just happens standing next to the person on the phone at KTM is RD. RD himself machines a new part and said mini rider has the new part shipped to him in a day or two! If you can put a negative spin on that don't know what to tell you!

ML needs everyone’s support, he’s doing his job right. And it’s about time KTM tried different suspension setups, suspension has been their weak link for a long time, this is nothing new.
If you found a Factory Yamaha team rider running WP stuff it’d be a shocker, but this is just the factory copying their customers..
