at least we're getting a new track this year.  But yea, they should take more precautions and add padding to the sides of the over-under, stuff happens, like last year with Coty Shock.

If I was on drugs and president of Daytonur I would split the gate and line up each side at the end of the straight away (no dirt) and have them meet in the middle with a split lane. Design the rest of the track around that shit. Create like a huge Lorocco's leap where you have to huck the part where they come together. Palabra.

And have both straightaways fast enough where you hit six gear pinned.

Bikes have 6 gears?? BlinkCheerful

I think they would likely change it if deemed to significantly negate safety (as it is not actually needed in the design layout). Would not be the first time this year that the track map didn't match the final product. In-fact, I think it was Anaheim-2 they cut the tunnel in the original design for safety concerns.

Best part of this to me is...being a "Ricky Carmichael Signature Track", it will give RC something to cut to split-screen B-roll with and ramble about during the middle of the 450 main.

I just can't understand that you can look at a track map and immediately think.....WEEGE BETTER CALL THIS OUT OR HE BETTER HAVE A WORD WITH HIMSELF!! Where the hell does that come from?

And Weege is a journalist, its his job.

I bet you would have a real meltdown if you actually knew it was 22 guys.

Fer sure they'll be going for it headed for that tunnel!

I hope that they have  RC pushing wheelbarrows full of dirt in . He can tell us how many wheelbarrows of dirt it took to build the track and how many laps of a mud race pushing all of those wheelbarrows into the track would equal. And then explain how tear offs work.

I do think that RC has a lot of good insite too though. He is able to see a pass long before it happens. And he might be a better producer than he is at calling the action. He is able to see a lot before it happens and that could help a producer make sure they have the cameras on the right guys. Yah he miss speaks and can sometimes sound like an idiot. But only James Stewart  and he have been able to have the ability to call the action before it happens. And I think that shows how much of a student of racecraft RC really was. I'll take the bad as long as he still offers some of the good too.

There will be 6 races of 20 before they put 22 on the gate.

I am old enough to remember it being a 40 rider gate.

You cannot make this shit up, you have pretty much the whole planet at Daytona to layout a good start, and they do this.

Assuming they'll be putting tough blocks here after the start to block the yellow line?

The best part is no one ever offers a better solution. Daytona may look like it has lots of room but there are a ton of restrictions.

Compared to a stadium floor its a huge area, ni need to even have it, it means pretty much nobody in the stands will see turn 2 either.

I would challenge anyone to come up with a worse idea.

Looks like you never raced a GNCC where the drag race into the first section of single track can be terrifying.

My first thought was that those two places where the 180s butt into each other could be a little sketchy after the field spreads out, someone potentially getting stuffed into oncoming traffic...

30 riders funneling into a 5ft wide trail with trees on both sides sure does make me pucker sometimes.

lol, I remember. Thats what i raced majority of the time thru the 90's. Ended with the 250 2T in 99-02. Not nearly as fun. I was joking as i rarely find a track to get out of 4th nowadays. Woohoo

They could be going over the bridge off the start like at Houston last year. The riders will fan out enough in the left sweeper and be 4-5 wide down the straight and less so going under the bridge. I see no problem with the start.

Track maps came out in like December, no one seemed to have a problem with the start then.

Don’t leave out a 80 year old driving in the left lane with their blinker on 25 mph under the speed limit.👍. They could be a mobile joker lane around the track.
