Heard rumors someone passed away at Glen Helen over the weekend. What is it with that track that makes it so deadly. I’ve rode there a handful of times and never felt unsafe. Hardly has any jumps on it.
This can be at any track. Unfortunately all it takes is 1 mistake in moto to crash the wrong way, get landed on, etc.
RIP
This was a possible medical issue. Not a crash or racing related issue.
Just seems like it’s happen more often at Glen Helen than any other track in the West Coast.
It was during a GP series. They couldn’t find him for over an hour. I believe it happened back in the hills, not on the mx tracks. That’s all i know.

Probably because they pull in more riders than any other track.
I know a handful that have unfortunately passed there and were medical emergencies, not crashes.
Rip moto brother
Similar happened once at washougal first everyone was trying to blame it on the track running backwards. Rider crashed at the top of horsepower hill and tumbled down the hill. Turns out this poor kid 18 had some heart condition. Guess heart stopped exploded died right there.
That was sad. I also saw a guy get landed on by his buddy at Woodland a couple years back and passed away. I didn't even finish riding that day. Packed up and went home, so sad.
There's other tracks (and one in particular that comes to mind) that have more issues than GH in my opinion.
It's motocross and it's dangerous. GH is also extremely popular compared to other places (ironically because of how it's more core moto and less jumpy) so the exposure is higher. They also run races almost every weekend whereas people are just doing laps at other tracks most of the time.
The moto track is relatively safe for sure. The ridges at the top of the mountains have no room for error that's for sure. It was really dusty & dry on the ridges this sunday & they typically do not run them when they are dusty. I also ride extra cautious the first lap or two when conditions are like that. Contrary to popular opinion, I prefer when they do not run a lot of ridges...
Major bummer that he passed away. Their family is the nicest family ever & I hang around his son quite a bit. I aspire to be more like them & have fun at the races. I love to see it. I have no idea what the cause of death was but i'm pretty sad about it regardless.
sad news R.I.P. fallen rider.
I have a very good idea of that "other" track you are referring to.....
I think you’re mixing up two scenarios. There was a guy a year or two ago that passed away from a heart condition. Rocky didn’t have a condition. I wasn’t there, but being in his friend group the cause was ignition/killswitch/electrical issue that led to the crash and the crash resulted in internal bleeding that couldn’t be stopped.
Hard to what if in situations like this. Dangerous features, rough track, high speeds, lack of safety gear, rider skill levels, or just wrong place at a wrong time could all play into it.
Whatever it was, doesn’t change the fact that someone lost a family member, friend, or their riding buddy, and that sucks. Condolences to those in his group.
Glen Helen MX track is not the issue nor others. At what point in time has there been so many 60+ MX riders-racers? As we all age, natural causes become increased and when you tip over at speed, -hit happens. I have raced with him many times and he was a skilled rider and good person. Thoughts for his family.
Not sure why it needs to be a secret. I have heard of quite a few at Cahuilla Creek and the last time I was there saw a fatality happen in front of my eyes. Freak accident that has nothing to do with the track. Could have happened out play riding. Unfortunately it’s a very dangerous sport and tragedy will happen on occasion. It’s the ones that could have been prevented that bother me the most. No flaggers or minis riding with Pros on 450’s.
the GH one sounds like an accident. Sorry to hear ….it’s always so sad to hear about the sport we love claiming a life. May he RIP
Sadly, the gentleman who passed would likely be known to a large percentage of this forums following. Sad, to say the least, and made even more sad due to his family being present. These things happen, but , nonetheless,it is always shocking. R.I.P, safety and serenity to your family.
MXA reported on who it was, so I thinks it's safe to say... Randel Fout. I saw him at GH about a month ago, dude ripped for a 65 year old. Godspeed my Man.

Condolences to Josh Fout and his family. Wow.... That's terrible.
How many events do they have at Glen Helen every year?
Pit Row
RIP Mr Fouts
RIP…..so sad to read these threads.
But when I die I want to die with my boots on
Terrible news. RIP moto brother.
Those guys winning 65+ amaze me, they are flying around the track. He must have been a hell of a rider and I’m envious of him living on a sailboat at the harbor. Such a tragedy, I didn’t know him but he sounds like a well loved amazing guy 🙏
More than 52 ... they have multiple events per weekend.
If you're asking about dirt bikes, I'd say about 50-60 events per year.
Good God that is a brutal read. Condolences to all impacted.
This is such a bummer, RIP.
Are any of you familiar with what happened? Did he really fly off a big ledge/cliff and fall to his death?
I wonder what the drop off looked like in the back where he went off?
This gives you some perspective of the race course - Trevor Hunter's POV from an event that used those same ridges in 2023

Have to respect the man for not only riding, but competing and hauling ass as 65.
Always very said news though, all the best to his family.
May he Rest in Peace. Doing what he loved doing....that's about the only good thing.
Condolences to all his family and friends.
There it is. And some of those events are among..:or ARE the largest moto events of the year (the exception likely being LL’s).
The point: with sooooooo many people racing there, the chances of accidents are much more likely.
None of that is intended to ignore the sad & tragic loss of Mr. Fouts.
I’m just saying that with Day in the Dirt, Vet Worlds, 24 Hours of Glen Helen, Saturday @ The Glen, multiple GPs, …etc. all being held at The Glen…well, that’s more riders, more crashes, more injuries…or worse.
