1. Tough industry to get in if you have no experience

2. Even if you're in, people at the bottom of the ladder have to live with roommates to make ends meet

3. The industry looks bright and shiny from the outside. It's rough and hard work inside.

4. If you want to be around bikes and not necessarily in the racing industry, servicing bikes (engine, suspensions, tires etc...) out of your garage can get you a decent ROI. I know a few guys who were in the industry and are killing it...

5. Or you can enjoy your retirement, your family, go ride with your buddies and watch the races 31 saturdays a year on Peacock from your couch with a $15 12-pack...

Agreed. It was more an inside joke because of the O.P.

I’m in the same boat, just retired after 33 years in the military at 50… i don’t “have” to work but would like to do something I’m passionate about because the divot i’m making in the couch is getting out of hand. I’m decent at suspension work and thought about doing the Race Tech suspension seminar and trying to do maintenance work on the side from the house or working at the parts department at Carter Motorsport here in vegas … or something like that. Then I just keep watching ancient aliens because it’s the only thing on during the day and another week goes by 😂

I did suspension work for years out of my garage and had enough a following that it was not fun. I was still working at that time.

Now that I'm retired I just want to ride or get out and do stuff. I thought of going to a local dealer and see what i could offer, sales, sweep floors, but now that Im here, screw that.

Lets Ride!

C'mon now homie.... You just want to watch more episodes of Ancient Aliens. In a couple weeks you'll come up with another reason to wait a few more weeks before riding Tongue

I hear there is big money in washing peoples gear for them, shining their helmets and deep cleaning their boots. Smile

I have been in this position for over 10 years… I settled on DV12”s option 5. I still love to ride & race but my body cannot take much more. At some point I may entertain funding a small East Coast SX/MX team or buying into an existing team. Think I would enjoy going on the circus tour for a few years….

I’m down for that manny… I was up at Nellis tuesday to see my ortho and the 22s were out an about, i noticed a couple B1s out on the east side of the flight line which is always cool to see!

Stop watching ancient aliens, get off the couch, ride NNW and you might find some real live aliens!

The industry could always use more riding areas, especially fun options for young folks to keep the sport going and growing. With EV bikes taking off, more options now than ever to introduce riding areas closer to cities. If you ever want to chat, shoot an email - ppalomino2@live.com.

I agree with those that recommend keeping the enjoyment in moto by not trying to make it a revenue stream.

( opinion )

It sounds like you were fortunate enough to earn a decent living and retire early, maybe part of that was because you weren’t having to compete with hobbyists that were willing to work at extremely discounted rates, or at competitive rates but taking market share just to be involved, maybe not.

It sounds like the industry is already competitive enough in all aspects for those trying to make a real living in it as it is, why dilute it further for those that are fully committed and dependent on it?

To me hobbies are a lot more fun when I’m doing them for my own enjoyment and satisfaction, and not holding out to anyone while doing so.

If you’ve got money invest it in T bills , you’re getting over 5% interest , some nearing 6 % right now so even if you only throw 500k at them you’re getting near $30k return annually if you keep rolling in to new ones as they mature with no risk .

Go spend that interest traveling to the races . Lots of fun,  zero hassle & still around dirt bikes.

Sounds to me like this guy has the money he needs to live on and kind of wants a moto gig that pays some money.  I could be wrong but I don't think he's looking to invest money and make more money.

You could get a Class A and start getting some local driving experience. That’s the main industry job I see openings for.
Team Tedder was hiring a practice mechanic/all around maintenance guy not too long ago.
Really just depends what you wanna do.

This reminds me of a quote one of my music mentors said to me when I mentioned how cool it was that he makes a living from making music. His response was:

“I’m lucky enough to something I once loved.”

IMG 4004.jpeg?VersionId=2N5nojKOiS8Apparently you need to invest in a giant generator with NEMA 14-50 outlets and charge ( pun intended) the Stark guys to fast charge their bikes
