Anyone found strange bushing wear and scoring on the inside of their fork cartridges? My local suspension shop here popped them open to swap the oil out and we found the oil was pretty nasty but filled with some metal. We looked over and found one of the bushings on the compression valving worn out. Later one we looked inside the cartridge tube and saw it all scored up to the point it needs a new cartridge tube. This was only in the right side fork. Cartridges hadn't been opened up only springs changed. Additionally we found the upper triple tree on the right side slightly bent, and the steering head races and bearings needed to be replaced. They weren’t destroyed by any means but had some markings on the race.  Kx450X with about 30 hours or so on it.

I did take a tumble a few weeks back on to the left side of the bike but it was a pretty low speed crash in soft sand. To me its hard to imagine that would bend the triple tree. We are thinking this what caused the wear on the inside of the right cartridge. Where theres smoke theres fire, but I also wanted to reach out to potentially ask if it could have been a factory issue.

That is weird. My 22 did the same at around 50 hours.

A new cartridge cost 350 and at the time was on back order for 3 months. I found a set of forks that were stock and never opened up. I stole the cartridge out of one. I'd sell the forks if interested.

How much you think it'll cost? 500?

Pfft I don't even know for sure if they will produce it.

One of the problems they just ran into is while it gives the bike a lot more power and torque, it makes it considerably louder as well, and those guys are really having to get the DB's down to pass sound check for the EU and AMA sound limits.

Did the frame prevention (bandaid) fix today.. it was easy and surprisingly not that noticeable once I got the plastics back on.  Not as bothered by this as I was before. Glad I dont know someone who has actually cracked their frame....

Don't mess around with it too much or the paint will rub off. I was cleaning the frame before installing Anchor tape and noticed some of the paint started rubbing off without much effort. I can now see finger prints in the epoxy and the black bleeding through. Probably not a big deal for most, but just spent $12k and haven't even riden the bike yet, and I know the paint is going to eventually rub off. I'll just touch it up when it happens I guess. They did a better job on yours, they didn't go out as far with the puddy. 20240215 181315.jpg?VersionId=JGaAEaX

Looks like Acerbis has dropped the plastics for the 24 KX450 now. Those who are needing them, now we can finally nab them up. Green, black and white.

That’s perfect, I cracked a side panel this week, didn’t want to buy OEM

Just pulled the trigger.

897BB694-AB93-4D0B-BEE6-6ADA661238C7Just pulled the trigger.

Check all of your bolts before you ride, nothing is loc tited

Also ours had almost zero grease in the steering head, linkage and swingarm bearings.

if you are using the stock filter, remove it and grease the edges, it’s pretty dry from the factory.

Thanks.  I always pull everything apart and grease it before I ride a new bike since they are all pretty dry and it is easier to grease it when brand new so I don’t have to clean anything before applying the grease.  I also check the torque on everything since bolts that are too tight can actually change the flex characteristics of a bike.  I’ll keep an eye on that filter.  I might buy the Twin Air kit when it becomes available.  I also plan to take the muffler cap off the remove the baffle and the screens.

That's awesome! Even the OEM stuff is hard to find right now,  and Kawi OEM plastic is shit quality anyway.

Hopefully the Acerbis fit and finish is good, although I can't find anyone who has it in stock - screen shot is from Acerbis.com -

I’ve heard the KX App isn’t that great. Can someone tell me if it keeps track of hours the way the Yamaha app does? I don’t want to order an hour meter if I don’t need one. Thanks

The Kawasaki app does not display engine hours.  I’m buying an hour meter for mine that I just picked up yesterday.

The apps pretty much to change your map if want and that’s it, even that you gotta have it pulled up and do it just right to work, could’ve made it little easier probably lol

Where is everyone getting maps? Any single source that has all of the options posted?

Keefer has the Chav map posted. I am not very good using apps and such but i was able to use the KX one pretty easily.

Went to the website and it says out of stock so they must be incoming. However, wonder how long before the skid plate and frame protectors become available?

They are doing the usual, just loading the PN/SKU's.   They are all loaded in Parts Unlimited with an estimated availability date of 2/23.

That was interesting. I would think there’s a market for just a screenless dome shaped cage that fits the Twin Air filter using the oem airbox and clips.

Maybe I am missing something. Is the main point of this system to provide better sealing and no suction of the filter into the air boot? What makes this better than using the 3D printed screenless backing I am using from JKopMX with the stock set up? Forgive my ignorance vitards...

It appears it's really just a little simpler as far as not having to slide it into those grooves . maybe better sealing also from that design- more similar to the ktm .

but the oem replacement from twin air seals very good in comparison to the stock filter.

Have people been sucking dirt?  I haven’t heard that.  I figured the biggest thing consumers have been trying to accomplish (necessary or not) is to try to increase airflow to the filter.

Maybe some people have with the stock filter, it's super thin where it touches the air box. My DT1 filter are sealing good, my air boot is spotless. I would get the 3D printed cage, makes filter changes much easier.

Which cage are you using?  Seems like that might be the way to go.  I started working on my new bike yesterday.  I pulled the plug out of the top of the air box and ripped the foam off the back side of the left number plate to try to improve flow.
