He got the worst of that start and the side of his helmet completely missed the protective padding and looked like it hit that steel scaffolding post or concrete under the black tarp. Looked like he was out. Hope the kids ok. Gotta feel bad for him and his family. Goes from winning a few minutes before to that. I had pretty high hopes for him seeing how he literally just came off the track and had the most recent look at it.

Was just wondering the same thing. He went into the stands pretty hard.

at the press conference they say he was ok, that was one of the worst first turn crashes in a while

Any word on Triumph? They invest in the circus and their rider smashes his head into a concrete wall with their brand name on it.

“Next man up!” - Feld probably

Yeah that was scary watching half the field pile drive him into that wall.  His day went from the thrill of victory, to the agony of defeat faster than Jim McKay could spit it out on a Wide World of Sports opening.

Looked good in the LCQ… Feld: let’s make a super fast start straight leading into a concrete wall👌

How did they not have padding right there? They had the padding end exactly 5 inches over from where it was actually needed allowing a rider to slam face first into a concrete wall. Thats friggin ridiculous, somebody fucked that one up bad.

Yup, motorsicles had two of’em shocks back then. DKW, Zundapp, Monarch, Penton, Greeves…cars had 8 cylinders and a carburetor…men was men & women were women. Budweiser came in a bottle or a pull-tab STEEL can. Bob’s Big Boy is where ya went for a proper burger. Gas was about a dime a gallon…Clint was just starting to make his own westerns…Calabasas was a cowboy area with one biker bar…we rode in Thousand Oaks and Chatsworth...you could race 4 days a week…

Yup. I am so damn insulted when these youngins call me “Boomer”. Laughing

Classic “fencing response” after the hit.  Def a concussion.

Hopefully he'll still be on pulp tomorrow.  Steve needs to find out how his set up was and how the day went overall.

There's zero reason why any rider should be able to contact an unprotected barrier.

Fix it, Feld. Fix it, AMA.

Hey FELD: have you thought of installing some large tall cushions in risky sections of the track to protect riders from stadium walls or objects...like the 1st Turn?

its about time Feld employs a track safety person

I see where you are coming from….same start next week or maybe install some spikes coming out of the wall for maximum effect…and bring back that speed boat parked on the infield of the SX track, preferably close to the track….

They need inflatable walls in certain sections (like the start turn). Multiple Arenacross series have inflatable walls on the backside of turns in case someone gets whisky throttle. They are even branded. No reason not to have them at the next rounds.

Even though concussions are serious,  its good to hear he didn't suffer any major injuries from getting piled into the wall.

I gotta wonder given that it was his first sx main starting from the way outside on a 90 degree funnel start like that if holding back to cut under the chaos would be a better strategy for him.
