Most groups that I see on Facebook that are populated with "Core" guys have seemed to have beef with Jett going back even before his missteps at the beginning of this season.

To me with the fact that he is a way better outdoor guy would make me think the core fan would be all about Jett because that's kind of a throwback instead of being a Supercross specialist.

For those that say he still hasn't done enough, the guy has won the last 6 championships that he has entered fairly handily. If he never wins another race he has already cemented his position as an all timer. I think he should come in expecting to knock the veterans off their perch.

I happened to stay in the same hotel as the Lawrences in Salt Lake City last year and granted it was a limited amount of time, but I saw him at breakfast and had a couple short convos in the elevator. Jett was always very respectful to everyone around him and most the time in the elevator he would always defer to Hunter and definitely treat him like the big brother.

Does that put him on Mt. Rushmore? Let's pump the brakes on that but when you do something that only 2 other people have done you are pretty damn special.

I could not disagree more. 250 Supercross championships are meaningless And his two 250 motocross championships hold little weight when comparing to the success of people such as RV, Dungey, Eli,Stewart, Reed, McGrath, RC, RJ, Stanton, Ward, Glover, Hannah, etc. I could keep going.

This subject has been beat to death.

For the record, I do not hate Jett.   I was a fan from the point he crashed chasing Ferrandis years back...kid had/has heart and talent.    Though lately, he's harder to "like" because of some of his actions. One example: the Ando incident.

What we hate is the over-exposure, 24/7 in your face coverage.....so we mock it.

We're also fed up with the annoying over-bearing "super-fans"....so we mock them.

Hunter is another story...don't like the guy.

I agree with a lot of what you say with the over exposure but that is life in 2024.

As far as the Ando incident, I brought it up to Blair on Main Event Moto that I thought both parties did exactly what they were supposed to do. The circle of life says the young bull is supposed to challenge the old bull for dominance and the old bull is supposed to fight off the young bull. I want to see both sides do exactly what they did. Sometimes no one is wrong.

Over-exposure may be the way it is these days....but it is completely off putting.      It's about $$$$ and how much and how quick they can make it off someone.... it can't be good fort the long term once people have turned away.

I agree about the old bull, young bull....but in this venue, it should be handled on track.   Beat the old bull in his house.

His people protecting him and handling it all for him after the fact was beyond pathetic.

It'll be interesting to see the crowd reaction to him in Detroit.

Don’t take the word “meaningless” so literally. I can’t remember the last time somebody was debating about the greats of the sport and brought up how many 250 Supercross championship they had. At least there is a full gate of 250 riders in motocross. 250 Supercross is not even a national championship. Jett is an amazing rider. He is not an all-time great currently. That is my opinion. You are entitled to yours.

"We're also fed up with the annoying over-bearing "super-fans"." - Magoofan

This sums it up pretty well...  I am neutral on Jett.  Love watching him ride and race, the super talent and his ability to float over things other guys mash is mesmerizing.  But the constant force-feed of "all time great" and "best ever" and "new king" and "here comes 72" from his psychotic fans causes people to post (negatively)...  It's not Jett hate.  It's just rejection of the perceived reality his fans are living in.

If he does it?  Or even if he's looking like he can get there, then lets have some fun with it...  But he's got 1 premier SX win and 1 450 outdoor championship.  72 SX wins and 150 total wins is an awful long ways away.  For what it's worth, Ricky's 150 is the one he'll get in my opinion.

First, I like the kid.  I enjoy watching history being made like he did outdoors last year as much as I like watching a season-long battle going down to the last race. Not everyone does, but we'll all be talking about that season for a long time.  Hell, I could watch the kid ride alone on an empty track and appreciate his talent.  That said, there are some things that are raising some eyebrows and causing some hate.

-All of the media hype, whether or not it is real or deserved, makes him an easy target.  Actually THE target for everyone.

-Going after the 72 win total before his first race.  Maybe this was even projected upon him, but he didn't seem to dismiss it very effectively.  Ok, great outdoor season, amazing talent, lots of buzz in the sport, but still a little overzealous.  Most fans say they like to hear confidence and a little bit of shit-talking, but this was a stretch.  Jeremy had a nice take on the matter.

-His complaints about San Francisco, saying it was stupid and should have been cancelled.  Ok, it was messy--historically messy even, but we race in the rain.  I don't think Sexton thought it should have been cancelled.

-His comments after San Fran (I think) to the effect of, "Yeah, I'm down 8 points (or whatever), but I can make that up if I have to."  Again, pretty confident and not everyone likes to hear that.  He may indeed make up the deficit...time will tell.

-The Anderson helmet grabbing incident.  From what we saw, he seemed to start it, or at least it could be interpreted as an over-reaction to Anderson's racing tactics. Happens at test/practice tracks around the country every day.  Even if you are neutral on the kid, this didn't seem to create many new fans.  The purported lack of a direct apology caused some heat as well.  I don't know if we really know what happened, but shielding the 20 year-old from intense media and rider controversy at that point may have some merit.

This is a humbling sport that can set you back in many ways.  He has done great things already, and is on the path to many more. Hopefully he's gaining the perspective that we all do as we have setbacks in life, and will hear the cheers on the podium before too long.  Just one man's opinion.

What about his sizable moose knuckle that he doesn't mind having on display? Are the haters just insecure with their own package and that is a reason to hate him.....I think so.

The fans thing makes the most sense.  I must just be ignoring those people and taking the  hype as the standard marketing hype that surrounds every win.  Jett said his goal was 72 SX wins. I think if you ask anybody that was in his position coming into the series that question and they answered honestly . They too would say they would like to beat the best. Anybody that is motivated enough to be able to have a perfect MX season is going to want to go after the best of the best.  I know that James Stewart said  72 was a goal, I'm not sure if RC ever said it publically.  Like some people said that defended Andersons racing. These guys are out there racing to be the BEST.

Its funny that he is giving too much back to the fans by spending more money and offering more in his and his brother's VIP  setup and that has brought hate. People have been asking to be able to buy replica Jersey's, Jetts people make it happen, Fans ask for riders to be more honest, Jett is doing that. I still do not see anything that he himself has done that is on the level of RC in the crown at the US open.  Maybe I too would be tire of Jett if I associated all the super fans hyping him up, or the people that want to be the first to say that Jett was going to win a million races.

I've been deep into following this sport since my dad got be a Dirtbike Magazine when I was 3 or 4 years old. And there have always been crazy fans claiming that arider will be the next big thing. AC was being called baby Jesus, Robbie Renard was going to be the next Bradshaw, Bradshaw was going to be the next hanna or whoever. I guess I've just not  taken it too seriously  and wrote most bold predictions off as people wanting to be able to say they said it first. My mother was a talk show host for years and maybe that helped me separate the public perception for the real person. Knowing both sides of my mother. And not letting some of the off putting stuff that Jett has done cloud my opinion of the good things he has  done.

As far as Jett being an all timer. I would say he is on his way there. And in SOME aspects you have to put his name up there with just a couple other racers. I think Jett and Hunter still have a lot of good years in front of them.  And  I wish that people would look at everything he's done and not focus on the stuff that can be spun as bad.

Cooper web for example. I used to think he was a stuck up arrogant person. Then I started to hear stories from people who know him or have hung out with him. He ran into  a customer of mine while at dinner and hung out talking Moto the rest of the night with him and his buddies.  I used to think similarly about Reed but changed my mind after being open to learning more about him. Now I would say I am a fan of every rider for one reason or another.

Nobody is perfect and the world would be a better place if we did not let perception to become our reality when we do not see the full picture.

450 class is a different animal - He's a new guy in 450 sx and the learning curve is real,  just like for everyone.  He'll be fine and battling for wins soon enough.  Then you'll all have to find another reason to mock and ridicule.

I think the haters hate Jett because they hate their lives, their trucks, their wives, their sex lives, the size of their packages, both presumptive presidential nominees (well, even I can get on board with that one,) electric MX bikes, their grocery bill, the cost of this sport, this sport itself, any sport other than this sport, and themselves.

Well, the avatar should also tell you that I'm originally a Michigander, so Stanton and Swink were my guys. Coming off the first year at Peak Honda I thought Swink was the next in line and better than McGrath. Probably three quarters away through the 93 season I saw the light and could tell there was a seismic shift in the sport. After seeing MC in the pits bringing a 10 year old girl up to sit on his bike and gave her a crossbar pad I could tell he was a good dude. Unreal talent plus good dude, what's not to like.

Side note: By the time they got to Pontiac in 93 they had Stanton mic'ed up for the parade lap and well before Jeremy clinched Jeff accidentally called him the champ.

I had a similar experience with McGrath because I was a Swink guy too, but eventually you had to come around to the greatness of McGrath.  Then I felt the same way about Carmichael coming in to take McGrath's place, but eventually you had to come around to the greatness of Carmichael.  You have to earn your respect and greatness.  And it has to be undeniable.  Jett's close, but he ain't there yet.

It's the way he disrespected Jason by not handling the (unnecessary, by Jason's own admission) apology himself. His team did it. That was bitch made. Yeah, he's 20, but still, even if your team did it for optics, handle it yourself if it has to happen anyway! What happened to behaving honorably?

I genuinely think that it’s because of HOW good he is. People (in my opinion) expected/wanted him to go through the teething stage that most (Rc, RV, Dungey etc.) and THEN win. He clearly didn’t get the memo and skipped it all together(on a 450). He skipped the right of passage and went straight to the top of the heap. Fire away.

I've had an open mind about the Lawrence's for the past couple years and was actually becoming a Jett fan last year and early this year.

As soon as I read that he was complaining about the mud in SF and acting cocky, my fandom stopped dead in its tracks. The picture became all too clear that this kid is a spoiled little brat with a lot less maturity than a lot of 20 year olds I have seen in the sport and in day to day life.

And the JA21 Helmet thing and then him crying and not apologizing and the tickets to the Jett fan zone thing. Really sealed the deal... Who do you think you are? Is my question.  The media has blown up his head.

And then once I realized all that it became so clear how much the media, FELD, etc are SHOVING the Lawrence's down our throats. You got the Jett/Deegan banners at Angels stadium, the non stop Lawrence coverage is just annoying.   I don't hate Jett, I just no longer am a fan and see him for what he is. I don't like Hunter though, straight up.

In moto I root for the underdogs and the blue collar guys, the dudes that have paid their dues and are solid through and through. I think a lot of people have this mentality to who they like. It starts with Hannah, it's the reason we like RC and JS7, Peick, and many others who were hardened riders. To see this kid get so much smoke blown up his ass and then act like such a little b****h and cry on TV is super lame.

The hate toward Jett is misdirected hate towards Feld.
