As the sport is growing and our country is a big one, what regions are most in need of new motocross tracks? (using your own personal experience and observations)
Areas in which there are a lot of local racers but not enough diversity with tracks for them to practice on ?
Curious as to where the sport is currently booming outside of Northern California.
Arizona
I would say it has to be based upon the number of riders in a certain area. In my opinion there are tons of riders in the PNW but not enough tracks or not enough that are open on a regular basis. I think the area has the highest bike sales also if I heard that correctly. FL, TN, and TX are also strong areas.
Wish we had more here in Jersey or close by. Sucks they swap East Rutherford with Foxborough on a bi yearly schedule.
Doing Philly this year which will be a cool weekend trip, I just wish it was more convenient in this area
in 2022 I did the trip to Daytona and that was a storybook day for me, it literally could not have been a more perfect day, and then a few weeks later I did Foxborough, and it was meh. Dont think I’ll ever go out of my way again to go up to Fox

I live in the PNW so I'm biased and want more tracks. Like Tahoevet said, there are a ton of riders but few tracks and the winter weather make it challenging so during the summer everyone comes out to ride and the tracks are jammed pack. We do have like 6 tracks within 2 hours of the Portland area. 4 open during the spring and summer and 2 during winter only.
Also, Vegas and Arizona could use some.
I just came out of Fl. St Petersburg island some town on it & Miami. Massive traffic this time the yr . The state is soo flat I except 4 the pan handle. A ton of people moving there so land for a track would be pricey. It’s nothing like 94-97 fl. I worked all ovr thd st. I went through Tn. Twice also Chicago down & up to central Wi. Now. Wi. Probably top 3 st for availability for a track, rolling hills , a lot of woods , water, deep sand or perfect loam. The most Mx bikes I ever see r in Wi. Not new bikes tho. Riding fees r cheaper than other states. The 125 & 2-st classes r popular. 2nd st is iL. I hear a lot of people r moving to Tn. So that kills the new tracks. Great hills in Tn. Tx. Is to flat most of it is desert so the dirt isn’t great. Va. Has some of the best big valley hills with manicured grass. There’s countless areas for an awesome track. Land prices would be high being in the east. Pa. Has great hills also I think there drive between tracks is more than double as in Wi. & more challenging. Eastern Mn. Is pretty good if you like sand. If you want to race 3 times a week that would be the spot e. Mn. & Wi. Riding season is short tho.
Not enough riders to support a track. Too many tree huggers.

To summarize this for everyone:
Florida, Illinois, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Minnesota all need more local tracks.

Good luck with that Az is better at closing tracks. We are down to two and as population grows those may be gone in a few years.
There is an awesome private track up near kingman but it's too far to actually go ride it way out in the sticks.
Indiana. They don’t have a track (with the exception of Crawfordsville, which is only open for the national and a qualifier) within an hour and a half of Indianapolis.
I do not live in AZ but I know from other threads on here that they’re lacking in the track department. I lived there briefly about 6 years ago and the only track I went to was ACP but mostly rode trails as I could ride out of my garage to the trailhead.

Ventura County. We lost Piru, Zaca, and Gorman is still D.O.A. because of well issues. All we have close is LACR (only open weekends) which I absolutely love, all the others are a good 2+ hours away from me without traffic (I really dislike GH).
What quality of track are we talking about? Not every track on the same quality level, most are minimumly thrown together, barely maintained, and are out of business before you know it. Nothing wrong with tracks like that, I have ridden dozens of those, but they are not necessarily going to attract more people to the sport.
What I think is needed are more quality tracks, near population areas, with investment behind them to create a little staying power. I think Texas desperately needs a top quality track, something that can host promotocross event. Ideally inside the "Texas triangle" preferably in the hill country.

Vermont is a dry spot - but its under a 2hr drive from where I am in Central VT to ADK MX and Paradox MX in NY and MX101, NHMX, and Sandbox MX in NH. Not great but eh. A kids track called Canaan MX is much closer and can be fun too.
Is there still a track in Craig? I know there is a little one outside of Granby. I'm surprised there is no decent prepped track around Grand Junction it seems like everyone there rides but the closest track is hours away.
Yeah, if I had more tracks to go to growing up I probably would ride more moto, but you always have an XC race going on about every weekend here. Wildcat is 15 minutes from my house, but probably is open for a total of 5 weekends throughout the year.
Still only open for riding like 8 weekends out of the year, pretty sure the owners of wildcat took over operations of it last year.

We only have two tracks within a reasonable distance... Mesquite and Sandy Valley.
Are there tree huggers in the eastern sierras?
I’m not sure but my region is pretty stacked. From Baton Rouge we have over 10 tracks within 4 hours. 6 of those being within two hours. 4 under an hour. Of those only two or three are what I’d consider major tracks but places to ride are abundant.
Great idea. Now go buy some land and build that quaility track.
Building and maintaining a moto x track is quite the job in it's self add in all the legal hurdles it's expensive, time consuming and you might lose your shirt. At best you will break even.
Also you need you be far enough away from residential complaints (4 strokes are loud and the sound carries a long distance) but less than an hour from the population center. Very few will drive more than that consistantly.
Agreed! We travel 2-3hr one way most weekends (MX207,Winchester,Sandbox,NHMX,) sometimes traveling to CT/MA. Something central NH/VT would be great. Wouldn't count on any new legit tracks in VT. Rider Hill is the only operational track in the state and it has its limitations from the state regulators.
Missouri
Deep East Texas, Lufkin, Lake Sam Rayburn area. Closest track is either Houston or Tyler. Long way to both.
MX is near death in Indiana!
