Pretty good idea for a mud race. How beneficial were they live for those in attendance?

At Anaheim my wife actually mentioned during the main that she likes it bc it’s way easier for her to spot. For diehards I don’t think it makes much difference but for casuals in the stands like my wife it works wonders

Idiot lights, for those that can not follow the race.

Was at the race, I say it helped me find the leader when everyone is covered in mud. But like everything it takes time for people to accept change.

It's been mentioned before, the lights should compliment/match the bike color.

I was at the race, i found it very useful when i was watching some carnage and then trying to quickly locate the leader again

What’s that old adage? “If it’s stupid but works, then it ain’t stupid!”

I gotta admit, they have grown on me. And if they’re here to stay, I do like the idea of different colors for different brands. If it’s to help identify the leader easier (look for the bike with bright lights on it), that’s great. But if it’s solely to put more lime green on another bike (specifically the one that is winning) I find that to be a bit eye rolling.

More green?            Great Scott!   We could shape them like a MONSTER CLAW!

It would be cool if it malfunctioned and everyone's lights started flashing .

I see no downside to these lights. I can't believe people get their skippys in a bunch over this change.

Not near as bad as the superimposed graphics on the backside of jumps, and start straight.

Or the stupid pointers telling us who we're watching, while covering up the action.

Why does it seem like only one side works half the time?

Last week I made mention of toning it down on the brightness. This does not translate live/tv. Live they work great, on tv it is annoyingly bright. But for a mud race you couldn’t ask for anything better honestly.

Quick question, if we have leader lights on the bike, why still have the super bright strobe light flashing in the leaders face on a pylon in a turn? A little redundant. Excellent race last night

Probably because the pylon lights are paid for and still work.

It may seem redundant on TV but it standardizes the nomenclature. I was watching with my 5 year old boy last night and he said what are the green lights, to which I said that's the guy winning the race. It easy to see what's going on if you are just casually watching even on tv.

For yesterday I would have even like to see “top 3” lights of different colors

Other than 1-2 rounds a year. It’s not a problem though, certainly is redundant with the corner posts but it helps live.

If you take a second to notice the flashing pylon light is seldom, if ever directed towards the rider. It’s 90 degrees to the lane.

Amazing stuff.

I think the lights are an improvement. For the people that really dislike them, how does it hurt the racing? Also, it probably helps the riders identify the leader and his position faster when they take a brief look at the big screen during the race.

I want a set for the practice track, with a handlebar mounted switch so I can turn them on when I pass my buddies.

I was thinking while i was at the race last night that it could also be helpful for lappers.  When they see guy with green lights catching them / are getting the blue flag they know that guy is the leader.  Obviously they have to see the green lights but most tracks i think you’d catch them on 180s when the leader was catching you coming the opposite direction

It doesn't bother me whether they have them, or not.

I do think one big positive is that it should make it much easier for lappers to see when the leader is coming by, and hopefully get out of the way of a lead battle.

I also think it would be a good idea to have them in the color of the manufacturer they're riding for, or let the teams choose the color it will light up with.

Are you saying you’re an idiot if you lose track of the leader?…or if the lights help you find the leader much quicker than looking for his number?  How do you pick up the leader quickly when they’re all brown, you can’t see their numbers, and the leader looks just as squirrelly as the guy in 15th place?

I don’t think of them as, for “idiots” that can’t follow the race, but rather, they are for people who take their eyes off the leader momentarily to watch action elsewhere; after doing that, it’s easier to pick up the leaders five or 10 seconds sooner than without the lights.

If you haven't seen it live your opinion carries way less weight.

Now I know what the green light is for☺️

The green lights are awesome, mud race or not.  It's also entertaining to watch the "green light confusion" which happens when the person controlling them can't keep up with leaders swapping places at the front.

I'm sure they are green for Monster. But I wonder if they will add to what colors they use and what they are used for. Like in an LCQ they could light up all the guys that will transfer. Or light up the first guy that is not going to get in red. Maybe sell a sponsorship , like the Walmart lapper lights and guys bikes light up blue when they get lapped.

Lighting up the first guy that is not making it into the main would also help fans find some of the great battles that happen for transfer spots.

I wonder how it will evolve over the years. I would say that they are primarily for people that are there live.  If You have trouble finding the leader on TV then the lights are not going to help much.

I wonder if they could do something to dim them on TV using some sort of green screen software or effects? They do not bother me at all. And I like how I can quickly answer the " who is winning" question from my mother or other newer viewer that I'm watching with. Easy to say the guy with the green lights.

I wish they would add two more colors for 2nd and 3rd.

At the race.  The venue scoreboard does not have a good leaderboard.  SO I would be waiting for the leaderboard to scroll then look back to the track and lose everyone I was trying to watch, in addition to them being covered in mud.  The green lights saved me by locating the leader, then going backwards on the track position.  Great idea.  Dunno if all the venues have the same crappy leaderboard on the scoreboard.  Especially early in the season when I have not learned all the new 250 numbers yet.
