Yeah I was wondering that myself but also don't blame him for not even attempting can you imagine having a bike that's cutting out on a Supercross track--sketch city! 😲
But really what shocked me and I was actually quite impressed was how cool and calm Phil acted.
Surely I expected some F bombs but maybe he's eyeing a seat in the booth and wants to be respected.
That's what I run in my vehicles. Good, cheap gas.
Matthes said it was the "throttle body"
How much cheaper is it every time I go to Costco I see the gas line and it's 20 to 30 cars deep and I don't even bother of course they don't list the price.
That's because it's literally the cheapest gas around in any state. But I do think it's not worth it to wait to save a couple bucks if the line is super long. It does go quick tho, they got the process down...
Going to guess the TPS on the TB.
All my rigs besides bikes getting the cheapest pond water I can find, usually Costco or Fredmeyer
one of the new stores by me has 4 pumps per lane. The lines go fast as long as people are paying attention to empty slots
Ah he knows how to hande things on TV, great guy and also shows respect to his team not to freak out
I blame Friese.
If you have the Costco app you can see the price of any warehouse
He was stoked he wouldn’t have to jump the triples.
For sure electrical but I'd like to know exactly which part and what caused it to shit itself. That's how we learn.
His bike probably
was washed and blown dry and prepared. It was running perfect until he got close to the staging area when something shat itself. This scenario is a mechanics nightmare.
Most likely a little water got in somewhere and fucked him over at the worst possible moment.
I feel bad for the mechanic and Phil. He was riding very well and I was expecting a great result.
A the best wishes to them for San Fran...
Pit Row
I'm sure we were all watching the mechanic unplugging and plugging stuff back in (even blowing on it) and thinking this is going to be a miracle if he actually sorts this out.
Unplugging it and plugging it back in is right up there with have tried turning it off and on again 😂 To be fair the connectors on bikes aren't the best quality, surprised pro supercross/motocross bikes don't move to better sealed connectors with sealed boots like DT/DTM or even Autosport connectors with the almost certain likelihood of water exposure.
People always talk about AP or whoever in the mud, but with how good Phil has been in mud races hopefully he'll go well if the track is wet this weekend.
I knew you were in Washington as soon as I saw, Fred Meyer 😂
I was super bummed. He’s one of my favorites. He’s hilarious on the podcasts. Hope he comes back strong next weekend.
Oregon has em too
They gave that bike away already, Word is they runnin a 2017 YZ works bike this wkd.
we sure see a high frequency of bike problems before the mains or moto's.....high pressure washers, water, electrical components don't mix well.
Probability of anything mechanical failing on the throttle body itself is extremely low. From what I’ve pieced together, the problem didn’t present itself until Phil’s practice start on the parade lap. Once the throttle goes wide open, the ECU is calling for a specific fuel trim & timing strategy to achieve full load at rated speed. I’m assuming they’re using a TriCan sensor in the air intake/throttle body path. This sensor measures the incoming air pressure, temperature, and humidity which the ECU uses in real time to calculate the best fuel & timing outputs. If any 3 of these channels were presenting inaccurate signals to the ECU, the result could certainly be a bog at wide open throttle. We could see Phil’s mechanic trying to clean a sensor on the air intake side so it seems to be the culprit.
yikes, that seems plausible ....
Club is running one funky throttle body. Another common yamaha issue is the junction box on the right side of the frame.
Absolutely seemed like TPS to me.
Just a Yamaha doing Yamaha things, that's all.
