Me thinks they’re getting the good stuff from Mendocino down-unda!

Could he - maybe.
will he - nobody knows.

but if he starts getting win after win - like in MX last year - this season will suck.  It is always better to have multiple winners and goes down to the wire for the Chip.

with the grace and class that MC has always shown, then i would be surprised if Jett gets there, he wasn't one of the first to shake his hand and say congrats,

At 17 SX races per year, Jett Lawrence will beat Jeremy McGrath's 72 Supercross victories in 4.2 years if he goes perfect every round.

People talk like we won’t have another contender come up in the next 10 years. The reason MC, RC, JS, etc didn’t have more wins was because the next generation. RC took a pile from MC, JS and CR took a bunch from RC. RV, RD took a bunch from JS and CR. ET, KR took a bunch from RV, RD. ETC.

I tell you what's ruining the story of Jett Lawrence....  it's the idiotic fans and the media.

People are going to be so sick of this kid.

Lawrence isn't going to come anywhere near 72 wins.

Roczen was also expected to break all records after A1 2017. A lot of water will flow under the bridge before he breaks the record of  the best rider of all time.

Keep telling yourself that. No one knows what's going to happen and MC sure as hell ain't "worried", but you're in for a painful time watching Supercross for the next 5-10 years with this shit attitude you have.

The premier guy is ALWAYS going to get all of the attention. It's just magnified even more with social media. Were you asleep during the McGrath era?

I think if it could be done, Jett would be the rider I'd put my money on. I think MC's 72 is safe but not for the same reasons everyone else thinks. I believe it would take 6-10 years. In that time, the racing will change due to rules changes. Before anyone can challenge that record of 72, we will see the inclusion of electric motorcycles and that will upend everything.

Down vote all you want, it's just my opinion. We only have to look as far as Trey riding the Honda in Japan to know the technology is changing.

This for me is the dumbest shit ever to be talking about.

I defended Jett in another thread saying that he wasn't repeatedly talking about going for McGrath's record but as of now he is talking about it more.

I just think it's ridiculous to be talking about a record literally years away if it even happens at all....are we going to be counting down every time he gets a win?  If Jett wins next week are the commentators going to say "70 to go"?

If he gets 40 wins in 5 years and is still looking strong and consistent with no signs of wanting to GTFO from burnout then maybe...but fucking hell if we get a blow by blow of this every week I'll become less of a fan.

I was an instant fan of Jett back when he and Ferrandis were going at it in 2020 A2 (i think)... and he crashed out.     Kid had so much heart in that race.

As time passes, the annoying/overbearing "super-fans", the media over-exposure, the broadcast showing Jett on the sidelines (full screen) reacting to his brothers crash while a race is going on (that's just one example of many)....

It's taken the glow off the kid for me.      It's not Jett...it's all the bullshit.

Like the days of radio....they played a song you liked over and over and over again until they've taken all the joy out of it and you switched the station any time it came on.

Him talking about taking on McGraths record just lowers him a notch more in my book.         Start talking about taking on that record when you hit 50 wins...if you do.

Yup, it is doable. End of story. The kid is on track for some records, perfect season in his rookie year, 1st time rookie winner in 50 years, so be it. I understand why the mac can be worried if it really does matter to him because the kid is just as bad ass as what he was back then. MC was taking no prisonners either.

i agree with you, HOWEVER, they did this with RC also. Remember rappelling into the US Open? RC had all the hype in the world pre-social media. Jett has even more because of social media and VIP tours and all the bullshit surrounding him, but I suppose he's a product of this generation. But yes, I'll be sick of the shtick in short order as well, if not already.

Not going to lie - that heat race where Coop parked him showed me that he's got a fragile side to him. I think that if CW or ET can bark at his rear wheel a bit, he'll make a mistake and we'll have us a championship on our hands. time will tell.

people talking down on Jett for having long term goals to keep him motivated.

Yet, I remember RC coming out in opening ceremonies on a big chair and a crown... talking about him dethroning the king every weekend.

Stupidest comment Jett has made yet...but considering the idiot moves his management team has made he will probably get a pass...

If he does beat it, I hope he wears the crown as well as McGrath has. He has some big shoes to fill in both regards.

That was one race, the US Open, the promoter made him do it and he has said multiple times he didn’t want to and regrets ever doing it…just make shit up to fit your narrative….Jett should be thinking about this year and the 2nd race not something 10yrs out there…hell i want to win the lottery but that doesn’t mean its going to happen…it’s been one race and people need to cool their jets…

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if MC just retires from racing at this point so he can walk away on top.

In this sport.....too many variables to make it to Mcgrath's number.  That was an anomaly

To be fair, I would love to hear what MC says about it. Nobody that witnessed the MC era expected to see anyone beat it in our lifetime, 30 years later, here we are, maybe.

the real question, can he become the official GOAT. King of Supercross and Motocross?

A little coocky but we all know how much ”showtime” loved the spotlight and being the king. I don’t see Mcgrath like a person that want his record to be broken.

What Jett has shown the world so far is that he could be the one to do it, what i don’t know if he is the kind of rider that will be in it long enough to do it.

Give it a couple of years and he might get the Verstappen mentality, ”it’s fun to race but there is other things to do in life” kind of thing.

and he is all ready set for life, he don’t need to work another day if he not want to.

I agree, I know MC the king of sx, but the clip of him talking about Jett beating his record made him sound obnoxious. I hope Jett takes it away. Records are there to be broken

The only guy who I really thought could break MC's record was James, and no one disputes his speed. Too many poor decisions (bubba's world comes to mind for one), crashes/injuries, bike changes, etc all added up to slow him from getting beyond 72. James too stated he wanted to break MC's record when he was a youngin' and there is nothing inherently wrong in having that dream goal way out in the distance, so I don't know why people are all bent up about Jett stating that as a goal-good for him for having the stones to say it. BUT-the main thing is to keep doing the main thing, and Jett will have to stay in this focused bubble for the next decade or more to have a shot at it, and this is the tallest order of all. Will fame and money and a lot of wins early on dampen the flames to keep the edge necessary to win for the next 10-12 years? Injuries, getting lost in the Bermuda triangle, moving away from his trusted circle...so many variables to navigate. But can he? Absolutely. It will be fun to watch. Can Jett avoid the pitfalls James ran into that prevented him from not quite getting there? Grab the popcorn, let's find out! Only 71 left baby!

From roughly Anaheim 93 to Anaheim 01 leading up to MC’s 72 Supercross wins. MC also had around 49 he didn’t win. Jett’s quest for the Crown will be interesting to watch for sure!!!

It's only going to take Jett 5 races into his 5th season to do it.

Seriously though, if someone could do it, seem like it would be Jett. He is only 20 and already coming off a perfect 450 outdoor season. He's not a crasher and unless someone finds more speed, he doesn't even have to push his limits.
