MXA 450 shootout

Edited Date/Time 12/11/2023 6:41am

Whether you agree with them or not, MXA pulls no punches when it comes to shootouts.  I appreciate their honesty.

Good shootout!  MXA always does a good job with their shootouts.  I always look forward to them and value their opinion.   I always read between the lines on a lot of this stuff.....they weren't to keen on the last KX450 because of knick knack issues that don't cost much to fix.  They do help force the manufacturer into building a better products.  They helped KTM be a better brand by passing along the changes that they wanted to see.  KTM addressed those changes and now they are a brand worth buying.

Quick for them but awesome they did it! They have been doing it for a long time and have to respect that.

This is why MXA (and Dirt Bike) are still around 50 years later.    It's a formula that works.

I only hope Mosiman (who seems to be heir apparent)  will continue running the mag the same way when Jody passes the reigns eventually.

Bold prediction considering the Yam won last year's 450 shootout.

Kinda different to see Jody show up in this video...maybe he's done cameo's in other MXA vids but this is the first time I've seen it.

Sorry broski....I'm not sure I'm buying it that KTM made changes specifically because of MXA.

Mosiman does a great job with the MXA vids. I think he’s the best of all the moto related guys.

Yes Virginia, we suggested the ktm could be improved if they changed xyz, 2 model years later, and those updates were made and it is the clear cut winner of the shootout

Jody also showed up in the Troy Lee - The Artist Who Never Gave Up  video posted a while back.   Rare to see him on camera.

Perhaps there is hope he'll do an interview some day.   Fingers crossed.Cool

I believe it.

I take tidbits from other media outlet shootouts but I trust MXA the most for feedback and rankings. They say it the way it is.

You are right as always. Don't bother learning anything you already know.

Jody at the end "bout time to get off my lawn".... Silly

Surprising that the Kawi is a pig @239....2 lbs off of the Suzuki @ 241.    The Kawi rubber grommet bit was hilarious.

Great video....and I'm not big on videos.   Personally, I'd rather read the shootout.

Good and to the point. Not sure why Kawi wants their bike heavy?

I actually enjoyed the video. First one from them in a while that I've watched from start to finish. Some entertaining bits throughout was cool.

Lemme guess....suzuki got last?

i'm not sure why they even put suzukis in the test anymore. Unless a manufacturer moves so far backwards on a new release, we can just asume the suzuki is last.

2008 CRF450 Vs 2009 CRF450. This is a huge backwards step that I could see helping the previous years last place bike

I wish the testers would do this - 2023/2024 of all models, and rank them - except for suzuki Laughing

EDITED:

They explained it in a recent issue when someone complained about "BNG" tests...

************************************************************

MXA does focus on motorcycles more than lifestyle, but that is because motorcycles are a major element to the sport of motocross. We have no intention of not doing a test on the 2024 YZ450 because it is a BNG version of the 2023 model. Why not? Four reasons:

(1) Current owners of 2023 YZ450Fs may not have any interest in reading about the 2024 model, but since there are no 2023 YZ450Fs on the showroom floors for potential buyers to buy and many riders only got interested in buying a 2024 model after they read how good it was last year, a 2024 YZ450F test is important to them.

(2) Motocross, by the nature of the sport, has a rapid turnover of riders. Not everyone has been racing motocross for 10 years; some are new to the sport, and thus they are new to the YZ450F. We test all the 2024 models, updated or not, for riders who are interested in a new bike.

(3) When we tested the 2023 models, we learned stuff over the ensuing year that often changed our opinion of some aspects of the bike. That info is valuable to potential buyers.

(4) You do understand that if we took your advice and only tested 2024 motocross bikes that were totally new and updated, we could not write about the CRF250, CRF450, RM-Z250, RM-Z450, YZ125, YZ250, YZ450F, KTM 125SX, KTM 250SX, KTM 300SX, KTM 250SXF, KTM 350SXF, KTM 450SXF, Husqvarna TC125, TC250, TC300, FC250, FC350, and FC450. The only 2024 motocross models that are updated for 2024 are the Kawasaki KX450, Yamaha YZ250F, Beta 300RX and 2024 GasGas models.

What if you went up a tooth on the rear, would the Zook win?
