What happened to m2r helmets?

They went from being on multiple factory riders and teams, then disappeared. Someone’s gotta know the story

I thought they received a fair amount of criticism for concussions.

It was weird seeing them so heavily involved with Langston in 2007, then nothing in 2008.

He was saying something about not getting paid from somebody that year or around then.  I am foggy on who did not pay. But I remember him switching up gear brands mid year so I think it was his gear company that was the issue. I remember him talking about M2R in that interview too. It was years ago, so I think it was on a  Pulp podcast or could have been DMXS.  But I am leaning towards Pulp. Somebody else has got to remember  some of what he said. Maybe its not relevant , but I thought he talked about M2R  in a little bit of detail. At the time I was wondering about M2R too and I wanna say whatever he said was an answer to what happened. Maybe I'll go back and re listen to the interview if I can find it.  Now I'm wondering too.

I remember absolutely having to have those helmets growing up.  Even today they would still be the best looking lids out there.  Also… oh look a squirrel

They were total crap.  I got one and the entire liner wasn't cut right even.  Sent it back just looked like a terrible helmet cheaply put together.

I don't think he had a deal with a gear company that year , he just wore MSR because of something to do with the M2R agreement. I'm still foggy on the details so I'll wait until I am clear. But I know there is more to the story.

I was painting helmets back then, and I painted a bunch of M2R's. They were nice to paint , easy to take apart and mask. I remember them being pretty light too at the time. They sponsored a few of the people I painted helmets for and they took good care of them. It was only discounted/free product, not top level guys just some local Pro's, and even B and C class guys. I wonder if they will try and come back into the US market again.

Langston ran m2r helmets and gear in ‘07 then switched to bell and MSR for the last National at Glen Helen when he clinched the title. Langston ran MSR and Bell for the couple races he did in ‘08 before his eye problem. m2r probably wasn’t paying him would be my guess.

Yah I kinda remember him saying that it was supposed to be a Gear and helmet deal with M2R.  And then he was wearing MSR because  they had helped him out before or something and M2R might not have come through with the gear and then ended up not paying and that was when he switched gear and helmets for that last  round . I think he said that he got paid pretty well for wearing stuff for that single race too. The race he clinched the title in. I just want to relisten to make sure that was what he said. Its been years since I first heard it, and I've had a few good wacks to the head. He gets into the details much more than I expected. Most top guys seem to not talk about the deals gone bad. I would love to hear Baggets story

Man I remember it like yesterday. If I had any foot in the design team at fox I’d bring back that fox paint job on a modern lid.   They wouldn’t be able to produce them fast enough

They had a couple adult models of them a plastic one and a fiberglass/kevlar one . Maybe more of them, but I remember those 2.  I'm talking about 02-05ish era. And compared to the other similarly priced helmets back then they seemed light.

That's different than the ones I painted. I repainted   these 2 designs at one point . I can not remember if they ever got solid color helmets or not. I think most of the M2R's had a stock paint job that I had to go over. I will try and find images of the paint jobs I did. I did not have a digital camera yet back then. They were very full of metal flake and gained a lot of weight .  M2r helmet crownM2R eagle

I've got a Zulu signed by James Stewart at Highpoint 2006 before he crashed out.

M2R Helmets sold to McLeods Accessories in 2008. They were M2Rs largest customer in the world. M2R was founded by my family in the 90s. My uncle was Australian. It always had strong ties to Australia. McLeods chose to focus on the Australian domestic market in the 2008 recession

M2R is still a very strong brand in Australia.

I designed all helmet models and worked with graphic designers, race teams, and sales worldwide.

Grant Langston chose product to sell in his shop and at Langston Racing SA rather than having his contract paid out for his final two seasons when McLeods left the USA market. He made far more money from helmets, gear, and other M2R products.

Those were awesome times. I sit in my office every day with lids and gear from Travis Pastrana, Ezra Lusk, Grant Langston, YOT, Blackfoot Honda, and others.

I loved my M2R when i had it. came with that huge chrome fin on it. The big sun on the side was as close to a Valentino Rossi replica as I could find.

M2r..."Made to Race"????

I believe Langston talked about this on Whiskey Throttle. M2R initially had a different meaning that he didn't care for, so he suggested that they change it to Made 2 Race

sounds like @jeremygee would have better insight

People like you two log on to see if there is anything to get all negative about. Wierd. I feel sorry for you your life must totally suck. Was hoping to ask the bro some questions but I doubt he'll touch this thread with a 10' pole now. Thanks vitards. Cool helmets btw.
