In fact the regs had been including ebikes for years (since KTM introduced the freeride), Stark complied with the existing rules and had logically been authorized by FIM to race this weekend. Stark agreed to everything the FIM asked for, even they kept adding new requirements, for instance Stark paid a fire marshall dedicated to the bike.
In the end, the only way for the FIM to exclude the Varg was... to change the rules 24h before technical inspection of the first race of the season.
Taddy also signed with Stark to compete in AMA EnduroCross.

The major players are protecting their kingdoms instead of growing the sport.

Yeah some scared OEM are building the wall with the help of FIM but Taddy will eventually jump over that, no problem.
The European Commission will have an issue with that.
Some valid points about Starks likely ability to fine tune the power delivery to be more like a gas bike.
I was basing my opinion on my time spent riding electric pitbikes so I know it’s not the most solid comparison platform.
However, in videos I’ve seen of the stark riding off-road I have noticed when the rear wheel breaks traction on something like a log, rock, tree root, etc… the power goes from controlled, roll on power, to WFO instantly. I have experience this same thing happen while riding the E-pitbikes over EnduroX obstacles. But as said before, maybe the Stark folks are able to fix that issue.
My style of EnduroX riding heavily relies on the clutch for certain techniques… but then as I stated before, Taddy has more skill than 99% of all riders so he may be able to make it work just fine.
It’s going to be quite interesting to watch going forward after how the FIM handled that first round. 😮
I don't think the power goes to full - it will stay the same - however if there is no resistance the revs (wheel speed) will rise rapidly due to lack of inertia in the drivetrain.
A rate of acceleration control (artificial inertia) would solve this and I'm pretty sure Stark will have it, even if not fully developed for release yet.
The standard bike is said to be bit too "snappy" in the air over jumps and when breaking traction in a flat slide. Same issue, same solution - tune it to build revs more like a 2stroke or 4 stroke, as you wish, but without the negative handling effects that come with the inertia of a real flywheel.
Interesting times.
Here, I'm gonna spare Beagle a little work.

The FIM Sucks, that's why we kicked them out of the US.
This comment earned me a suspension on thumpertalk. The site has gone so downhill they are down to one moderator who apparently bans people he disagrees with in-between writing HOA citations.
How considerate of you.
Some interesting info here, it will be no walk in the park [...] but the Varg could have partied all night!
It's great to see a brand new manufacturer committed to improve its product by racing wherever it can, and a great champion like Taddy ready for such challenge. Hope they can race in Poland, they will learn a ton from this.
It was ready to race (as the Austrians say)
Stark did jump through the FIM whoops, adding some kind of lanyard killswitch
Some bits of carbon fiber are in order, too bad the skid plate might not be edible for Taddy
Sweet eyes
Seriously, man, where were you?
I can't do your work in addition to mine.
I bet you could make it do some wild things Phil. You are superhuman to most the rest of us on here haha.
is their any reason released what the change of rule was,
my only thought is that in an enduro cross type environment, I can understand having no clutch being an issue with whiskey throttle being more prevalent, but a lanyard switch takes that risk down,
Taddy B is still training, doing some practice laps in Poland while waiting for the FIM to make up their mind.
At least the FIM could have provided a reason for changing the rules the day before the start of the championship... but apparently they need more time to come up with a valid argument.
Seems to me their mind is made up and he is waiting for them to change their mind. Could be a long wait.
Yes that may be a better way to put it. Seeing they've already changed their mind at the last minute once, anything is possible.
Anyway we will see Taddy race the Varg at some point in 2024, worst case scenario he has lots of time to practice (and Stark to develop the bike) for 2024 AMA Endurocross.
Pit Row
At this time there will be no ebikes racing against gas bikes in Endurocross in 2024. Not saying it wont change but that is where we are today.
The FIM have failed their mission...
One thing's for sure: once again, he was nowhere to be seen in the races.
That’s absolutely not true, it very specifically says in the rules that electric powered machines are allowed, and I’ve raced one for the last two years.
Seeing Ty Tremaine had been allowed to race the Alta Redshift in 2018 AMA Endurocross I am reasonably hopeful for Stark participation in 2024.
On the Alta, Tremaine got 7th, 4th, 3rd... then Alta went under, he finished the season on a Beta and ended 3rd in the championship.
2023 SuperEnduro classes...
2024 SuperEnduro classes...
At least 2023 AMA Endurocross series championship supplement rules were crystal clear
"Electric powered machines are allowed"
"All motorcycle power and propulsion systems are allowed"
I can't find the supplement rules for 2024, is the AMA about to pull a FIM clown maneuver, allowing electric bikes until 2023 then suddenly forbidding them once the Varg is released?
or they will change the rule to 18 kW of maximum output!
Heard it may have been insurance related.
Once again, this is last season's rulebook.
Can OP change his title to "Taddy B. trying to race a Stark in SuperEnduro"?
The new season's rules were announced the day before the first race, when Taddy had already received, in writing, permission from the FIM to race the Stark in the 2024 SuperEnduro series!
