They are held all over and are called ISDE’s but are typically single day events, no relation to the actual ISDE other then the format. They are also called reliability enduros but not often. Not the same format as a sprint enduro, sprint enduro you race the same tests multi times, ISDE’s are traditionally 100 miles and have 6 checks that you only ride once. Some of the bigger longer running ISDE’s are Idaho City 100, China hat, and I think the one in Wickenburg has been around a while too. D36 has a some within their enduro series too, NMA in Washington, the list goes on…
What has changed with the format?
Proper enduro racing, like the ISDE, is stage racing. Traditionally a multi day format, each day consists of typically 4-6 special test stages connected by a series of trail sections, with a time control between each stage. A normal day would 6-8 hours on the bike covering 150-200km per day.
You are given a fixed time to complete each trail stage with time penalties for finishing early or late (penalty is the time in seconds you differ from the allocated time). Trail times are set so that most riders in a class can finish them comfortably. Special tests are flat out stopwatch timed. Race order is determined using total time which is trail penalty time (cumulative) plus special test times. In the longer events like the ISDE the last day is usually just a short trail section then a motocross special test as a the finale.
Typically race order is shown as the time behind the fastest rider in each class. If you get too far behind the leader, normally an hour, on a given day you are eliminated from the event.
On top of that there’s a reliability component. Riders must do all their own maintenance; outside help is not permitted other than passing tools and parts. Bikes are locked up each night; you get 10 mins in the morning and 15 mins in the afternoon to work on your bike. The beginning of each day is also a cold start test. Additionally there are designated fuel/work controls each day where if you arrive early you can work on the bike plus refuel, grab some food etc.
These are big in Australia - at a club level and state level we run two day events, then there is our annual Australian Four Day Enduro. They are fun events and really demand that you be an all round good rider.
Besides the actual smaller ISDE events the NEPG series is more traditional enduro and is similar as you ride different stages all day and are a little longer. US Sprint Enduro and the Full Gas series are really fun as well and are ran in southeast with US Sprint Enduro having a couple further north, these are traditional sprint enduros with an enduro test and a cross test that you run 4-6 times each.
Every time I race a sprint enduro i talk to more and more moto guys they can show up and race for 2 hours compared to MX with limited riding and a lot of sitting around.
Been around motocross/supercross my whole life, and have never heard of "ISDE" until this lame topic comes up. Should we care about the Rubiks Cube Des Nations if they have one?
You've never heard of the "International Six Day Enduro" seriously?
Lame comment to start the week.
Have you been into motocross and super cross for a couple months? Anyway, there was this guy, Zach Osborne, he won two outdoor AMA titles and one super cross championship. He's raced the ISDE for America. Ryan Sipes and Rodney Smith as well and that's just off the top of my head.
The ISDE is the 'Motocross of Nations' of the off-road/enduro world. Every country sends it best every year. It's a fairly big deal.
Not enough to remember it exists. I prefer a real sport, not cross country riding for countless hours. But that's just me.
I remember hearing Osborne racing "GNCC". I didn't know it was that race specifically. Still never cared about any type of dirt bike racing outside of SX and MX. Everything else is lame, in my opinion. They build dirtbikes to suit moto and supercross tracks, not logs and rocks.
Not knowing about ISDT?
That's amazing.
Ignorance is bliss.
Still curious about this. I don't remember any significant changes in recent times?
You really didn't need to post this, all your other posts on here have told us you don't know shit about the sport.
Pit Row
Is it also un-patriotic to not know what ISDE is?
Not sure the point you were trying to make, but I don't think the one made was the one you intended.
Yeah man, riding my dirt bike for countless hours is terrible. I buy my dirt bikes to stare at them too 😂
KTM literally builds an ISDE replica bike to sell to the public..
Jett wasn’t there. Asterisk.
Couple of 10 minute practice motos once a week on your local groomed track makes it “real” for you, does it?
Tell me you know nothing about the history of dirt bikes without telling me you know nothing about the history of dirt bikes.
I like all forms of two-wheel riding, but this is VitalMX with the emphasis on MX.
You guys never cease to amaze me on your comebacks.
if we cared about come backs we would of asked you to wipe it off your chin
Post a reply to: You want Americans racing for National pride huh?
