Glen Helen and the 9 time AMA Champion

If GH can't get in as one Nationals - Why can't GH be on the list for a SMX track instead of one of the speedways.  I am sure they can create a track that would work for a SMX race!

2 pala races. It’s the worst track of all national races and they do it twice

I'm sure Feld will give in to more of GH's demands than MX Sports.

Fox/Pala is a joke compared to Glen Helen. The local Indians running the Fox track hate us, you can tell by their attitude. Flat, no hills, booooring.

Glen Helen is old school, REAL motocross. The people running it really try, and put pride into hosting quality events like the World Vet MX championships and the Two-Stroke World championships, and the 24hr Endurance race.
Quality track, quality soil, quality staff, and an iconic history!

Bring back the Nat to the Glen!

That reminds me of ww ranch. You could only see where you where standing. Flat af with sand piled up everywhere. It was a fun track to ride though but it wore my old ass out!!

They only race it once. I do agree it's the worst track, though.

Not to derail Villopotos “national prep” opinion but. I’d only rather watch GH over Pala if I was from Kansas or whatever if it’s on video. I’d much rather “go” to Pala as a local.

Really ? Why ? Just curious having been to both I don’t see the attraction of Pala over GH.

I’d rather be out in the country surrounded by orange groves. The arm pit of SanBernadino surrounded by stray dogs and junk yards isn’t where I like hanging out.
Im not that big of a fan of GH, sometimes they have cool obstacles in the national track but sometimes not, and the viewing isn’t any better unless you want to scramble up the hills and build a terrace. The rest of the viewing is flatter than Pala.

However you feel about them, Bud's non-moto enterprises are irrelevant to this.  And they and he got drug through the mud a lot when he lost his family, and however you feel about the business of moto, that was horribly inhuman around something that has nothing to do with moto or why Glen Helen doesn't have a national.  There's enough challenges around the GH as a national issue without that poison getting thrown in, too.

Ok fair enough. If I was to list why I like Glen Helen over Pala ?

The most exciting part of a national is the start. Compare watching a start at Glen Helen vs (trying) to watch a start at Pala.

Even on the infield at GH at least you can follow them up and down the hills and see a few spots on the track, good luck at Pala if you're not in the bleachers or up on the hill at the east end of the track, if you're on the flats you can only see one little section of track.

Driving by junkyards and stray dogs doesn't bother me when I'm going to watch a dirt bike race, and I don't care what's in the background beyond the track. Sure it's nice if it's green and hilly and scenic, everyone will agree on that, but it doesn't have anything to do with being able to view a race.

Hill's.  Pala's 4 story pile of dirt is technically a hill but it doesn't really compare to guys drag racing wfo up Mt St Helens and launching off the top

There both hot and dusty, you're car will be covered in dirt at either place, Pala might be more scenic, but you're parking in dirt and sticker bushes just like GH lol.   To each his own it's all good.

Agreed! Spectating sucks at Pala.

I remember a story that the last reconciliation between GH and MX sports was brokered by Tom White (rip)

Allegedly Tom White was able to bring the two sides together

------------------------------------

I think the last National that was at GH the winning riders were supposed to go past part of the grandstand along the finish straight and high five VIP spectators who had paid for the privalege. Apparently they didn't and went directly to the podium. Apparently Bud went up onto the podium and demanded the riders get back on their bikes and go past the vip's and high five them. I think Davey Coombs had to throw him off the podium as he was creating a scene

Using Richard instead of Dick doesn't make your intent to insult decorous.  And the insult is surrender.

Glen Helen is iconic. It is the rare type of racing track that is spectacular to watch a rider circulate on his own.

It is my favorite to watch on TV too. 1999 and 2015 are always worth a rewatch - two legendary performances.

In a perfect world it would be in the series. I always liked it as the first round.

It's simple to say that GH should play along with the same terms as every other national. But a big thing with all sanctioning bodies, particularly in MX, is to sign all manner of small-ball deals with presenting/series sponsors and force individual promoters and teams to play along.

And for these promoters and teams, this type of thing often causes huge strain with their own sponsors and partners. Sometimes, this gets to the point where participating just isn't worth it.

Which party is more unreasonable is a matter of opinion. The camps are pretty entrenched. We can only hope.

GH has some great parts to the track agreed. The vibe is just different. 🍻

That was my way of doing it softly...so I should have made the comment softer? It is still applicable in the context that it was rendered.
