Opinion on future e-bike racing

10/11/2023 11:43am

I had to make an account just to comment on this absolute mess of a thread.

The boomers are out in full force on this website, I see. The hate that these bikes are getting is hilarious. NOBODY is forcing you to get one, NOBODY is going to take your gas bike. You guys sound like massive pussies for being dirt bike riders, I feel like most of the people hating on these e-bikes don't even ride.

To all the boomers who will read this, you will be in a nursing home by the time these things are readily available and racing.

And for the record, I love my gas bike and don't plan on getting an e-bike, but the awful takes in this thread are just too much.

EV bikes and cars taking over will not be as soon as quite a few think. We do not have the infrastucture for supporting the charging needs. Wanting to go green is not enough.

Its not there because there is not a demand yet. Just like gas stations did not exist like they do today.

It's like the chicken and the egg. which comes first?  For most people electric cars could work right now. But for road trips and longer range stuff its an issue. Most people are not going on road trips as often as the average MX rider/racer is.

I think that the Varg and future EMX bikes from the current  makers will be bought mostly for the performance. The ability to adjust the power levels and lack of sound are some other reasons I see people buying Electric over gas. And the environmental impact not being as much of a thought.

Charging infrastructure at MX tracks will most likely have very little impact on people's decision to go electric or not. When I got my first camper to go to the races with, I knew that there were not any tracks locally with power hook ups. And now almost 20 years later, there are still no RV hookups at most of the local tracks. No water or sewer. Yet the pits are full of RV's.  And I bet that most places electric MX bikes are ridden will not have power to charge. And most people will run generators.

When everyone has to race e-bikes in the near future, how are you going to feel about coming off a nice quiet e race, exhausted, hot, maybe frustrated about your finish or sore from a crash, to sit in your chair and try to relax before your next moto only to have the sound off hundreds of Fuel powered generators charging bikes and breathing the exhaust of them all crammed together Everywhere around you. Quiet track/race, extremely noisy hard to breathe pits. IMG 8616

What’s your thoughts?

We all know change is inevitable or we would still be racing 2-strokes. To me nothing sounds better than a gate full of built 125's!

As far as the generators there are small portable solar powered generators you can take to the track. KTM has solar a solar powered generator on the roof of the rig to charge the mini e-bikes. So the gas powered generator problem is not really a problem.

Will participation decrease if they switch to electric for SX? Maybe at first but the majority complaining are older and not really riding or racing anymore. We are still several years away from switching over and if the electric movement takes off it will be the youth driving the movement. A lot of these kids are already riding e-bikes so it will be the norm for them. I think spectators at some events may decrease but it would come back. If we can fill stadiums to watch stick and ball sports I'm sure people will come to watch the best guys race.

I haven't rode one but everyone who rides the Stark seems to have a huge smile and crowds are gathered around. They are faster and from the reviews they handle better due to no rotating mass. Alex Ray and the guys from Swapmoto seemed to love the bike.

With Honda jumping in it will not be long until the technology race takes off and the battery life will increase. You can bet that Yamaha and Kawasaki will be following soon.

The next 5 years will be interesting and you may see both electric and gas powered bikes racing in different classes. Though if tracks are built closer to home that will be appealing to a lot of people. I hear the same comment all of the time about people quitting or ready to quit because the closest track is 2hrs away. You then build a private track in the middle of nowhere but Karen can hear the bikes and cannot sell her property. So your private track on your land is shut down.

Anyway the next 5-10 years will be very interesting.

It's called Agenda 2030, they don't care if you like electric or not. It will be forced, and yes they know the grid won't sustain everyone to have electric, that's what they want. They want you living in one of their 15 minute cities. What's coming will probably catch most off guard.

Charging at the track using generators is counter to the theoretical benefit of e-Bikes on the environment, just like using a Turbo Diesel Generator to charge electric cars.

I'm open minded.  I'll try an electric dirt bike when the opportunity presents itself, and make a decision then.  I might really like it, but at the moment I really like my 125.

They can go F themselves.  I think it's fine to design new cities so that more services are within walking or cycling distance.  But to try to force people who live in cities that aren't designed for it to stop driving is unacceptable.

Also, electric everything isn't sustainable yet.  We'll run out of rare earth minerals far before fossil fuels.  Then what?  Hopefully that gets addressed.  Unless they are, it's not green.

Worse yet is the 30 by 30 agenda.  Its goal is to make 30% of all land owned by the governments, and unusable by people.

This isn't inevitable, but If we don't stand up for what we want, we'll get whatever we get.

Go to the UN website, they are rapidly speeding up the SDGs ( Sustainable Development Goals) they have every Country signed on to...Yes all countries.

This will happen so fast people won't be able to protest. Most people have never heard of Agenda 2030 or the WEF.

The Sun is free...LOL. How you getting the Sun's free energy into the bike? You'll need a 220V OR 110V solar panel system. I can't find one online with that kind of capacity. All I see is 12-18 Volt systems. You'll be charging that battery for 36 hours of daylight, or 3 days worth of sunlight assuming you can get 12 hours of good light each day. HAHA. And the biggest charger that might, might be able to charge it is $4-5K on Amazon... Good luck with your $20K setup for 1 completely stock dirt bike. Do the EV guys just have too much money and dgaf.? Or do they just not think anything through?

Demand isn't the only factor, solar panels are not where the bulk of our electricity comes from. Demand can drive improvements, but technology still has quite a ways to go.
