Finland rider snapping bike in half

Apologies if it has been posted elsewhere, but in one of the races yesterday a Finnish rider (didn't catch which rider) had a huge crash coming down the hill at Ernée, directly opposite us in the crowd. His bike catapulted down the hill and his front end (forks and front wheel) completely snapped from the remainder of the bike. Reminded me of Pingree!

Thankfully the rider (who was half way up the hill) walked away, but curious if there's any pictures or footage? Saw plenty of journalists over taking lots of pics of the remnants of his bike, so I'm surprised I haven't came across it yet on the socials.

It was very hard hit for both. Bike looks not that bad as I expected

From that pic it looks like forks snapped and not the frame, must have been some wreck to do that!

I don't see anything really broken other than the fork bushings and a retaining ring failed. You can see the lower tubes were pulled hard enough to pull them out of the upper tubes.

Wow. That's a monumental suspension assembly fuckup.  The damper rod came out and allowed the lower tubes to fall out.  Lucky he walked away from that.

It looked like the forks were ripped apart on the subsequent violent tumbling flips, not before the rider crashed.

Looks like a fork rebuild failure. My guess is the bottom fork legs came out in mid-air, not upon impact.

See this happen honestly surprised the bike didn't look worse was some crash !

The bike took a bad bounce.

For that to be a mechanical failure- both dampening cartridges would have to simultaneously disconnect from the fork lugs.

Thats what im thinking, what would generate enough downward pulling force on the forks to pull them out of the upper tubes in a crash like that?

You can't see the rider on the bike when the event happened in that video. But that sure looks like forks came apart... not that they "broke" due to a crash. More like they came apart due to assembly issues... and that may have caused the crash. 

Anyone have a video that shows the whole event?

It looks like the forks and front wheel were still on the bike after Jare separated from his bike...

Not necessarily. If one separates you might not notice until the 2nd one goes. Depends what they did wrong too.

I saw them take it apart at the pits, I didn’t get up close, but almost looked like the lower tubes were broke into pieces.

So, the BIKE didn't actually "snap in half", the forks separated/broke.  Title is more than a bit misleading...

Correct.  The bike did not break in half, and nobody here so far knows definitively what happened.  There’s speculation that the forks were assembled incorrectly.

I was under the impression that the rider lost control on the hill & the bike then catapulted resulting in the the forks snapping in half.

That's what it looks like to me, the forks were intact until the bike impacted with the ground...

Then the forks came apart...

Assembly error or the force of the impact was enough to break the cartridge and separate the forks.
