A repeat of their Mountainbike and Cycling venture that is no longer around.
I was thinking that as well, but their cycling shoes were good , high quality shoes and I still wear a pair. Regardless, it's always good to see new companies get involved with the sport, particularly companies with solid R&D and Marketing budgets.

With regard to the 3 buckles, a number of ski boot companies have introduced 3-buckle front entry boots for the freeride/park crowd. Better flex pattern than a typical 4-buckle boot for that type of skiing. Maybe the same concept translates to moto boots?

The question should be do you think that Nike would compromise their reputation?

Why are 3 buckles a big deal? Tech 10's have a 3 buckle design.

Those boots look like... boots. Daring. But the three-buckle deal looks like a good idea to me...
I think the Nike bashing comes from the fact that they are a HUGE company who is already a billion dollar business who wants to come in and take a chunk of cash from small companies who have been in the sport for years. MX is not a very big business in the grand scheme so I see it as Nike trying to get a cash grab in a small market who does not need a behemoth shoe company with endless resources to compete with. MXers always talk about being 'core' and Nike is about as far from that as you can get with regard to MX.

What is the big money sponsor Nike going to do for the sport? They will stuff the already full pockets of Stewart with even more cash while siphoning off sales and market share from companies who derive most or all their business from motocross. I would be more impressed if they started sponsoring privateers who actually need the help but they just seem to want to buy there way in at the top.

As far as the boots go I think they look kind of cheesey, especially the red/white/black ones which are obviously styled after the old Air Jordans.

Are the Models going to be called Air Stewart or Air Dungey?

Not real keen on the look but if they offer solid support and are comfortable, well that should be what matters in the big scheme of things.

If James was smart, he would wear boots that came from AMERICA and not China straight out of a sweat shop, just saying...

Jordan, please humor me and name one brand of boots - or hell, gear and helmets for that matter - that are made in America. get a f'n clue Nancy.

i really dont understand all the Nike hating and bashing of these boots. You guys are calling them "junk" just from a picture? Do you guys buy your bikes too based on what looks like it "works" and what doesn't in a photo? Dungey has been testing these things for a while. I highly doubt either him or James would risk changing from their respective previous boot sponsors if these new Nike boots weren't up to par.

i for one am stoked that Nike is stepping it up like this and furthering their involvement in the sport.

for everyone asking about price, i hear that for the forseeable future they won't be for sale.

Probably alot less than a 1/3, it would make everyone sick what this stuff is done for. Its not right for the USA. Everyday more companies close and have operations moved to other locations where there are no epa regulations and costs. Its greed and it is wrecking the country.

The boots that James will be wearing are most likely custom made for him (probably in the US)

Nike sponsored athletes mostly have footwear custom made to fit, this includes football, athletics and golf.

Just like some aftermarket parts we can buy - they may look the same but aint

just sayin

I doubt the boots that JS and RD are wearing are anything like the Bangladesh/Chinese boots that any walmart shopper will be able to buy.

The only way you could get me out of my Tech 8's is with a set of SG-12's

I guess the positive with the Nike endorsment is the massive exposure the sport will get through their marketing power. It's got to be better than tricking kids into drinking sugar and caffiene laden garbage water.

From Transworld----

We chatted with Nike 6.0’s Sierra Domaille this evening, who phoned when we posted the first shots of James Stewart’s exciting new boots this afternoon. To our surprise, Sierra indicated that currently, Nike has no plans of marketing the boot, but rather, will only be supplying them to their two elite motocross athletes, exclusively. She was also quick to fill us in on a few other important tidbits… * Nike created the Nike AIRMX to support its moto athletes Ryan Dungey and James Stewart, by creating an innovative and high performance motoboot. * Nike worked with Dungey from the beginning to conceptualize and design the boot. * Dungey wanted a lightweight boot with an increased amount of feel to the bike. The Nike AIRMX is the lightest boot in the industry and achieves this through the use of innovative materials which reduce bulk. * Dungey contributed hours of testing from day 1,

How they got so big is exactly what you are pointing out about companies moving to where there aren't any regulations. And to answer your question, no, especially if they are into motoRcross.
