Unless you're getting lapped I have a problem with letting someone by for any reason. It's a race, you're paid to race, so effen race.  It's like that BS move Savagty made when he pulled over and waved Tomac by at the monster energy cup so ET could get a Mil.  Total BS.  Sandbagging so a fellow racer can earn extra cash ?  F that.  Finally a close race and he backs off ?  Yeah cool bro F@*% your team who wants 100% effort at every race and is paying you to do so,  and F@$%$ the fans who want to see a real race. And I also can't understand this "New math" where somehow 1st is better ?, or just as good as 2nd points wise ?  This shit's too confusing. If you can win the race then win the stupid race. The little enthusiasm I did have to watch these spin off races just went out the window.  Sorry to be negative but come on, I see guys battling their guts out for 15th in the 60 novice class, watching the best in the world not give it their all is tough to watch, for me anyway.  Come on A-1

Take a walk bud, it's not that serious.

Didn’t Heiko give the Lawrence’s a place to stay and train when they were coming up? Always wondered what kind of relationship they had with Kenny as a result, or if there was none and they were only really involved with Heiko. Just figured this adds a little more awkwardness to the situation.

Regardless, I bet Jett feels a little stupid today seeing how poorly the move was received by most. If your plan is to pull over, do it like Musquin and say you missed a rut or something, lol.

I hate that so many people expect for Jett to be perfect in terms of making decisions, especially at his age. We've all made dumb decisions in life but I swear some of you people calling Jett a dick is a bit of a stretch. He had a different thought process at the time and didn't get the math right, which some agreed with and some didn't. I make completely different decisions at 34 than I did at 25. Give him some grace.

I agree with that in the moment, but the gift BS was cocky and shitty.  If he would have given credit to Roczen and said he didn't want to battle with nothing on the line, this would be a non issue.  He could have said that in the press conference too and did not.

Can someone do the math and figure out a scenario where Ken could let chase by to give chase the championship over Jett? Ken and chase are bros and I suspect Ken would love to give that kind of middle finger to Jett. Ken riding around in second holding Jett up while chase pulls away. I'm now rooting for this scenario, or chase and Ken just run away from Jett and wave each other by a few times for fun. Combine it with Deegan taking someone out and the meltdowns would be very entertaining. Maybe something like RJ's slide into home in New Jersey. Haven't laughed that hard during a race in a long time....

Jett is very smart for back off and letting Kenny by. He risked wadding up trying to run Kenny's pace. He's developed a ton of racecraft and knows when to back it down and when not to. Last night was a great example of that

I am pretty sure that when you are in the lead with 2.5 seconds, it’s your pace, not the rider in second place pace?

I always had the gut feeling that Savatgy let Tomac by so the FAN could with the $Mil, not Tomac.  Like Tomac needed the money....  But it was cool the fan for the $Mil, so I have no issue with Savatgy on that move, just for the fan's sake.

Fair enough. I like to watch guys go as fast as they can, I guess I need to tell myself these aren’t really races, there just entertainment. If a guy leading is thinking about who benefits if he pulls over, be it a friend or guy in the audience or whatever, that’s not really a “race” in the purest sense   It’s a race but it’s different... It’s all good it’s more money for the racers. But if a guy is thinking about dropping anchor for whatever reason while he’s leading it’s not a “race” in the purest sense of the word.  As long they all get trophy’s I’m good with it TongueLaughing

That’s a good point.  All too often we forget that this a sport, a form of entertainment.

These aren’t life changing events.  It’s a good idea to sit back occasionally and remind ourselves of that.

Jett lowered his pace and let Ken catch him, it was not Ken who went faster and caught him that way. even if people grasping at straws now to make it look like Ken was the fastest rider on track.

It is entertainment, but it’s also their job. And think about how much shit the riders get through out the years just for trying to earn as much money as possible on their job. Even if that means going slower to create a points advantage for the future.

Yep.  Lot of people are ignoring the hard reality of the gap between them and what the lap times are saying.

Haha the level of anger over this, some of the deductions you people come up with are priceless.

Maybe go out and ride.

Edit: FWIW...IF Jett did slow and let him by, he needs his ass kicked by his employer.

Having just watched it, I think Jett's comments have been widely mis-interpreted. A few differences in Australasian humour that were lost in translation

From what I saw/heard, I thought the "big-brain" comment was Jett making fun of himself. The fact he took a couple of laps to be 100% confident that if he finished 2nd he'd still win the overall.

And the "gift" comment sounded (to me) as if he meant that Ken would be able to splash out on some more gifts for the newborn himself with extra prize/bonus money.

Could be wrong, but that's what I took from it. Quite light-hearted, self-deprecating humour that many people missed

>> One more comment (as a coach)... athletes do the most damage to themselves in the last 1/4 of endurance events, in terms of deeper fatigue that takes exponentially longer recovery time. Regardless of whether Kenny was still gonna get 2nd with a 3-2 (as opposed to the 3-1); by letting him by Jett both (a) gave himself certainty that Chase would be 3rd overall, AND (b) backing off over the last few laps will do wonders for Jett's recovery ahead of next week <<

So this has been hyped as "play offs". Using a strategy to "win the ring" is more the goal than "win the moto". It's no different than a football team playing the second string guys in a game that's irrelevant to the results. I personally think this move caused enough controversy to make some good drama and will make for some interesting racing.

Props to Jett for owning his actions on the podium with no filter.

But this reminds me of 2017, when Eli slowed to mess with Dungey at the final round in Vegas.

Coulda raced forward and won, chose fuckery instead.

In the post race press conference he admitted he screwed up his thinking.

I’m sure he won’t do it again, but it’s also being made out to be a much bigger deal than it really is.

The broadcast will be loving the drama though for the last round.  They'll probably hype that crap out of this.

I will say this - between the “let Ken bye” and being the only guy to put his hand up to win at the pre-race presser, he’s given everyone something more interesting to talk about than the tracks and whether riders were choosing MX or SX suspension.

Jett moved over and stayed there. Eli literally aimed at Dungey's front wheel three times. Watch the replay on YouTube.

But he never touched him right? Just scare tactics.

But now days we don’t see take out crap from title contenders. It’s nice that they let the racing speak and don’t use take out moves.

But next weekend i would not be suprised if Deegan pulls some duche moves

This is what I was thinking. Kenny had his foot on Jett’s neck the entire race & he was reeling him in the last couple of laps. I think Jett didn’t want to get into a battle & either get passed or go down so after thinking about it, he decided to “waive” him by so that he’d look like he was letting Kenny by for a new baby gift. 🙄

I bet Kenny wasn’t happy about it because he knew he could've beat Jett straight up. I don’t the think he needed/wanted Jett’s “gift.” Seems like a cop out to me.. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Flame on!
