That was cool. I don't follow NASCAR or anything so it blows my mind that that huge facility has just basically been sitting there abandoned since 2019? I wonder why NASCAR quit going there.

What are you talking about? Some well attended tracks nearby in Mt Carrol and Sunset Ridge. Plus the classic Byron and Lincoln Trail. I know many WI riders are planning on being there. Wgat less than 2-3 hours to Red Bud and Iron Man? Yeah terrible location choice 🤦‍♂️

I can't wait to see how this track turns out, but I'm curious how they're going to avoid getting down to the asphalt in this area? If they go up that section, they're going to be digging ruts, and if they go down, they'll develop braking bumps.

That is just the base layer.

Hopefully Sexton can get it done, would be cool to see him get another local win on the big stage.

You'd imagine Jett will click another gear this week though.

The Honda boys should be happy, there are a few corners suitable for washing the front!

Not enough revenue generated to maintain the track for 1 race a year. Probably lost a ton of money. AND I'll assume they used covid as a scapegoat as there last race was around the beginning. Got some money to make it thru the tough times, a few debts taken care of and then closed up shop to not payback the PPP loans...well something along those lines....o and Obama and the Rodhams

I wish they had taken that big open grass area in the middle and done another split lane…..what’s a few tons more dirt anyway?  lol.  That was a great option last race.

AMA District 17 historically has been one of the best in the country for entries, there's 3 tracks within 1 1/2 hours of the NASCAR track (one of them about 10-15 minutes away), and I don't know maybe the current 450 SX champion being from remotely near the area tells me there's at least more than 100. I live 8 minutes from the track and know about 25 people going so I guess we just need 75 more to hit your prediction! I would take a wild guess and say there's at least 100 people going that are related to the mx track down the street, so I suppose you may just be a tiny bit off with your numbers

Thanks for giving a better explanation than my “shit ton of riders” in the area comment.  You are completely on point.

I like it.  Can’t wait to see the curvy swerve sand section.  Two sand section.  That jump close to the left hander is interesting.  I bet more than one over jump it.  I bet it makes for, good racing if wide enough to pass.

He looked bad in that first race.  I never heard his name mentioned and for someone that was up front for much of SX it’s odd they didn’t even point our where he was.  Remember…he finished third only 1 point behind Haiden.

Wonder if there's any plans to fill in the start straight with dirt, or if they're going with the old school grass start?

A lot of the sections in the grass definitely don’t seem to have that much dirt on top unless it’s for the obstacles. I think the grass start is there to stay! Maybe they’ll just disc it, if anything?

I concur.

The standard SX stadium tracks are just arenacross on steroids now....cookie cutter, boring, aerial timing gynnastics.

I'll wager these SMX type of tracks are safer too.

We walked around the pit side of the track, it's really outdoorsy. Looks like it will be a lot of fun, fast and flowy, lots of rollers.  Not that many jumps, and none that were too big. Not great photos of the track as I was planning to get those during track walk.  The track is not per the track diagram, it's quite different around the over/under section.    image-20230914195100-4image-20230914195110-5image-20230914195116-6image-20230914195122-7
