I'm a mid eighties through mid nineties guy. Always wore fox. 49 now and I'm getting a bike and racing if I have to beg, borrow and likely end up in the hospital. I'm 5'8 190, not fat but work out pretty seriously. JT's making tight shirts work but 18 inch arms are going to be rough to fit in this new gear Lol. And I've always wore a full chest protector ( Roost 2's) I won't ride without one. FYI, I plan on downsizing a bit. When I last raced at 20 I was 140lbs.... Thank you in advance. Im 346 in the pic, on a full 87 DMC KX125, even had Showa cartridge forks.
Fly is a little on the loose fitting side compared to most other modern brands.
Technically, this is what you asked for...

You won’t find the billow fit jerseys with the giant arm holes anymore. That said, pretty much every gear brand has a less racey fit that won’t make you feel shrink wrapped. But hey, the sport’s changed a lot since you last rode. Just go with it. Try something new—you might end up liking it.
As some others have said, Fly F16 stuff is fairly generous in the arms and the FXR Clutch stuff I got recently is super comfy as well.
Pretty much all the base model gear from any brand is a looser fit.
Not all "progress" is good.
Klim and TLD are loosest I’ve found.
TLD GP gear is not “Race Fit”
Im about the same size as you at 50yo although I just finished a cut and my arms are down to 17”… That’s the TLD GP gear I have on in my pic and the XXL jersey actually flaps in the wind with 36 pants… although I could probably squeeze into the 34s now!
Sorry nobody makes 90s moto dude cosplay outfits. Halloween is coming up—maybe try a party supply store.
AM Gear is pretty loose.
MSR gear is in the lose fitting gear category
Klim Mohave and Dakar gear is probably the loosest you’ll find.
What....you don't like the Zoolander fit of todays offerings?
Pit Row
Fly Lite is loose and flexible. Very comfortable...esp for me stepping on logs and rocks when riding hard enduro.
Moose
LBZ.
I didn't ride for about 10yrs and I still have a set of '08 Fox gear I wore when I came back. Crazy how much more baggy and bulky it is than the new stuff. I like how the new gear fits. It's got the durability of tissue paper though but it is what it is
I tried on some Moose pants and they fit as loosely as regular loose fit jeans or work pants fit. I was VERY surprised since the Thor stuff in the same size felt like I should go up a size. The Jersey was similar. almost skintight in the Thor that was the same size as the Moose that fit like a loose T shirt. I have not tried all the different lines of each brand on personally. I was comparing the mid level lines. I know that the Setor entry level Thor gear is looser fitting than the Pulse line. But I would say that the Moose was looser than the Sector line. I sell a good amount of Thor gear and not as much Moose stuff. Most of my customers are Moto guys and think of Moose as a wood/off road brand. The customers who ride off road that tried both the Thor and Moose that were looking for a gear that was not skin tight, have all ended up buying more Moose.
But I do think You should try on some of the stretchy stuff. Almost every customer of mine, who has given the Prime gear a shot has ended up buying more of it and it becomes their favorite gear. Prime is Thor's tight fitting line. Pretty much every MX gear brand has a stretchy style gear these days. So giving one of them a chance and trying some on at a shop might be worth a shot. You can wear the shirts a little loose and be ok if they have a size big enough to do so. But the pants can end up being pulled down if You try and run them in a baggy size since they stretch a lot.
The nice thing about the stretchy tighter fitting gear is it doesn't snag on things as easily. I think it stays a little cooler too.
I'm certain you love spandex. It's not a problem, I'm happy for you.
I had a customer that brought a James Stewart worn set of gear into the shop , and I compare the jersey labeled a medium to the newer gear. And it was similar to a 2XL modern jersey. The Stewart stuff was custom made for him, so who knows if it really was close to a medium. But it was crazy to see the big difference in sizing.
Just grab one of those Seven over-vest things and skip the under-jersey people wear with them, leave your big ol' pythons out Sammy, like that Kaplan feller 😂
A lot of gear seems to get tighter the higher in the range it gets, like Fly's F16 stuff is clearly made for weekend warrior / bigger dudes, but it's also a little warmer which could be a hindrance. If you're a chest protector fan at least you can probably get away with going up in jersey size to help. My Thor stuff also varies a bit range to range basic Sector stuff to Pulse to Prime etc.
You sound like a prime candidate for a guy who needs to go and try a few jerseys on, which can be a hassle but at least you know for sure for you specifically.
Not sure if this is helpful but I saw a photo recently of a rider in Thor stuff that looked super loose in the arms.
Yeah good call. Go try some stuff on at the local shop
I'm 6, 240 and the Moose Sahara stuff fits pretty loose. And it's vented.
