I don't know that I ever see him being a 450 Champ but he seems like the kinda guy that can have a long and solid career. Like a Seely or Brayton or Ferry type of guy.
Like people already said, he had good finishes in SX and will probably be a solid 4-8th place rider next year (maybe a podium even with a good start?) It's good to see that taking the 250 outdoors only ride for this year at least paid off and resulted in a full time 450 ride.

...it did make me realize that they are releasing a 450 guy that already fills that role (and more from a champion perspective).
Makes me wonder why they didnt just have him ride the 450 for all of supercross and drop back down to 250 for 2023.

He has the speed... I want to see how he transitions this to outdoors. He could literally step right in where Dylan was this year.

He is a fast dude and very good from a technical stand point, pretty textbook technique and whatnot.
I'm not here to down talk the guy, and it's great he's getting his shot, but I'll be interested to see if the 450 class exaggerates his difficulty passing people and moving forward when he doesn't get up front straight off the gate.
I hope it works out and he makes progress in that respect, I'm not trying to be negative.
Also maybe because that guy has only finished 2 of 6 series as a 450 rider
A pissed off DF14 with something to prove is going to be a contender indoors and out. Big mistake on Star for letting DF14 go and giving his ride to J-Coop. I don't see the logic other than Star ran out of money to pay DF14.
His ride didn't really go to J-Coop, it went to Webb...in terms of budget.
I gotta say I woulda stayed with Dylan. We don't know salary requests obviously, so maybe he wouldn't have taken a cut as they are obviously paying Eli and Webb.
He's won more for them, and an injury doesn't really prove he can't be good indoors and if you look at his 450SX results, they are actually really quite good. A lot of top 5s, mostly top 10s and obviously a few injuries/bike issues.
But he's a winner. Out and out. Has won titles and races for them and nothing to say he couldn't again! Not to say Justin couldn't either, but he's been more the podium/consistent guy rather than the killer, and the 450 class ain't a joke.
Either way, moto is brutal – to think two really incredible guys are basically jockying for a job and there might not be a good option otherwise. Tough sport.
Good for Justin Cooper. He will be a solid rider on the 450. Don't think he will contend for championships but might be a top 5 guy soon.
I mean Dylan has had 3 seasons in sx to produce. I definitely think he should have a ride, don't get me wrong. Going by what ML said his ride went to Webb. When it comes to sx everyone is choosing Webb
I checked the Vault. Given the injuries and a bike that wasn't sorted initially, and then a new one this year, the results are actually pretty good.
Add in he won in 250 SX/MX and 450MX... I'd have kept him over Coop if the $ were the same, but we have no idea there except probably to assume as a 450 champ Dylan wanted a base that is probably higher than Justin.
I totally agree with this take. I keep Dylan all day long, no disrespect to Justin Cooper. He is a tremendous rider.
Look back to 2016/2017 timeframe; did anyone have Jason Anderson pegged as a being a 450 champ? Same could be said for Zacho in 2020. I'm not saying he's a shoe-in, but he could turn into a pleasant surprise.
I like DF, but maybe Star is just over him. Could be attitude, could be price tag, could be a host of thing we will never know. Sometimes people get cut from things even if they are good or better than someone else, because they are considered toxic. Not saying that’s the case with DF, but it could be.
Nice, he earned it! Must have been tough for him to get beat outdoors after sitting out SX to get ready to get the outdoors title.
For some reason I always thought he'd be one of the guys that will never do much on a 450. After his couple of SX races this year seems like I'm wrong
