With the exception of last year I feel that the United States' MXON participation has been getting more and more depressing.  It seems that every year it has more trouble getting the very top riders to go.  It's just endless excuses and moaning from the teams, and often the riders.  Examples: it's too expensive, no one gets paid, it cuts into the off season, etc etc.  I understand all these excuses but surely the opportunity to represent the USA and to add to the great legacy of past American MXON teams should mean something?

The fact that it's rumored Deegan is passing up the opportunity to race for the US in France against some great riders in order to race in a exhibition supercross (essentially) in Australia is pretty bad form - especially after Brian's cheap manipulation of American patriotism to get a few more YouTube clicks.

Well if deegan doesn't go he needs to drop the captain america bullshit. Lets get 3 riders that do want to go and we still have a solid team.

Yeah, if Deegan doesn't go he should be banned from playing the American card ever again and Brian will be unmasked as the phony he is.

If they'd drop the team element and make it an individual world championship nobody would have to be coaxed or persuaded to attend. The winner would wear a world champion helmet or jersey or #1 plate or something for the next year. It's really strange that this sport doesn't have a true world championship.

Isn't the winner of the MXGP a true world champion ?

The winner of MXGP is a world champion in the same sense the winner of WSX is a world champion. Does that satisfy you, or would you rather see Tomac, Herlings, Sexton, Gajser, Febvre, Lawrence, Prado, Lawrence, Anderson, Plessinger, Seewer, Webb, Coldenhoff, Cianciarulo, et al, all on the same gate in the same class battling for a championship?

Oddly our amateurs have a world championship in the 65, 85 and 125 classes, but we have no world championship for the pro classes.

It's all self proclaimed...  SMX is a world championship too.  What makes one "true" and not another?

Would be better if the premier series ran with all of the great riders.  But that doesn't exist today.

In name, certainly. But really it’s MXGP and AMA. Those are more or less equal at the top of the mountain of motocross series. Some years MXGP has the greater talent, some years AMA does. Every other series is second fiddle or lower.

I didn't know Deegan was announced for smx in australia, which is quite cool ; if that is the case, well, the start money must be nice. That is a factor, if you go to work, you prefer to spend 30k or earn 100k ? Not that it matters so much for him, but to be paid to go to work vs. to pay to do the job is also demonstrating some self respect, and respect from who you work for. Personnally I think the US team should get some start money to cover the expenses, as the US riders are really bringing the flavour to the event ; 95% of the time it is more expensive for the US team to make the event, yup, some unknown team don't have that but do they bring just by themselves 10000 entries? Of course I am a bit disappointed too, for me when you wave the flag that means you are really showing you want to be selected, so that sucks. I understand but that sucks ... As many people said, when you have the opportunity to represent your country at the olympics, you go, no debate.

If Haiden Deegen goes and competes for the USA, there is really no downside for him is there?

If he does well, then he boosts his profile by a lot with American fans.

If he loses, then he is just a 17 year old rookie kid who has never competed on these French tracks with GP guys who have the place wired.

Either way it gets him a lot of attention and followers on social...

For Deegan it would be a win win situation and he would gain a lot of experience.

Wow, with all this drama going on.....Why not wait for the announcement instead of debating facts that, for the most part, none of us know. Heck, at this point, I suggest we get that girl from the USWNT Soccer team to go.....Wink

With Daddy Deeg's throwing shade on Star kinda seems like we have an answer. All that patriotism for nothing.

There comes a point in time the deeganites fantasize about. When Danger Deegan becomes greater than great. Maybe even the greatest ever. He most certainly would become bigger than Star Racing at some point. Looks like we may be at that point.

In my opinion yes, to be called a world champ you need to have the series be able to have rounds in whatever country or part of the world you want. Sure majority of rounds in a year is in europe but they been everywhere from middle east, south america to south east asia in the last 10 years.

Crazy thought experiment here but bear with me… What would the date be 3-years from now?
