Only $10 for all 2026 SX, MX, and SMX series.
Listening to the original press conference, they really make it sound like it's paid to the riders. Did something change recently?
https://youtu.be/ag7QFKThgzI
At 20:00, it says the athletes will compete for $10 Million in prize money, no mention of the teams competing for this money.
At 25:40, Prater says "for a 450 guy it's a million dollars to win the world championship", no mention of teams, just individual riders.
At 26:10, Prater says "you don't have to do anything special, if you win the world championship then YOU are walking away with a million dollars", referring to the athlete that wins, not the team.
Honestly, I think this is bullshit. If they want to change it to a team payout, do it next year when everyone has ample time. Everyone's contracts were made this year with an idea that riders would get a huge payout from the series, not the teams. I'm sure most teams will be cool ans understanding about it, but we know how some teams are in motocross.
Im not being an ass. Im being informed. You had no context and just assumed it was a mistake without doing any diligence.
This is a message board fella.
Bait and switch...
The worst part is they let it play out as it was common perception the rides would get the money.

So if your Kevin Moranz and own your own team you might make out pretty well. But if you are a rider riding for one of these small struggling teams you may see none of the prize money? Especially if they have no intention of signing you for next year.
I'm baffled that this is not being talked about more.
"At 26:10, Prater says "you don't have to do anything special, if you win the world championship then YOU are walking away with a million dollars", referring to the athlete that wins, not the team."
The IRS may disagree!
Let's just wait to see if Steve mis-spoke.
If it's true, well then maybe the teams get the money( in theory) and give the money back. Make it sound good but no money is exchanged.
Why? Well the playoff sounds grand with all this "money" up for grabs.
I really think Steve is wrong though. I surely hope he is......
I’m listening to the review pod now. The money is going to the teams.
Side note, holy shit has Weege turned into a sellout.
That's ridiculous. Sounds like the riders should strike.
I can understand how you think Weege is a sellout but the truth is, folks in this industry make their money from multiple sources, including Weege, Matthes and JT$. I think that it should just be understood, and taken with a grain of salt when ANYBODY in the credible, non sensationalistic media comments on Davey Coombs operation or The Todd Jendro led cabal....THEY ARE GOING TO SOFTEN THE BLOW...not highlight the perhaps uncomfortable truth.
Hell, Guyb gave off the most pussy vibe on the internet by deleting controversial threads under the guise of "they were stupid"...or, " conspiracy theorist".
Lets all stand back ...and see how this plays out. Plenty of time between now and September 9. Perhaps some riders who are on marginal "teams" who controll the payout not the riders might bail.
Just asking questions.
I understand and I like Weege but come on man give me a break. This has been sold as paying the riders all along. Then it just slips out this week that’s it’s actually the teams. That is the problem is everyone was lied to. I don’t even have a problem giving the money to the teams, just fucking say what you are going to do and do it.
I completely agree
I'm just guilty of trying to see the motivations and being understanding of the folks in the mx/sx media because i like them (Weege, Steve, JT$)
Speaking of the mx/sx media, whats our friends Michael Lindsays take on this deception?
I really hope it is just a false rumor. If true, I don't get this change. 5 millions going here or there is still 5 millions. Probably it is because they prefer to pay it over like 12 settlements ? The issue I see is the whole promotion so far was the riders getting a gigantic purse ... and now they have to negotiate with their teams to get back some or most if it ? If true that is quite some next level and unprecedented shenanigan, not ethical, ... and false advertising. A rider association (not union) would not be pumped ...
Two questions for you
1 how far back do the points pay? Does it stop at 22?
2 what do the guys make that don’t make the main?
Shaping up to be a hollow championship and a big letdown after the hype for almost a year now.
The boys get into it at the 54 minute mark, and then a bit more at 56:30 mark.

How so? This is a nothing burger if it's true the teams will pass it through to the riders...not a big deal
Hold up, lying about who gets paid is a nothing burger?
Pit Row
Agreed. The teams wouldn't necessarily have to pay anything to the riders other than their agreed upon salary and bonuses.
How has this not been answered by now?
Everything is a nothing burger when Dono' says so.
I wonder how many riders 2023 contracts included racing the playoffs?
Supercross - check
Outdoor Nationals - check (for some not all)
SMX playoffs - ????? Didnt exist yet
I can't imagine any rider would line up and race SMX without a written agreement with the team regarding the purse money.
That being said I don't like that the payments are going to "whoever enters the rider". Maybe this is a way to ensure all teams' participation?
If the payouts are not guaranteed to the riders, and those riders discuss terms with their teams to find out they are not getting that money... then I foresee a lot of half-hearted competition or outright dropping out of the playoffs.
As far as I know the points stop at 22 like a regular SX race.
The big payouts are awarded to those that finish in the top 22 in the standings.
Edit:
All three events will also have an individual race purse of $404,810. Earnings will be based on the finishing position within each event, as first place in the 450 class will collect $100K, second place $50K, third $25K, fourth $10K, fifth $5K, sixth $4K, seventh $3,900, then continues in thousand-dollar increments to 30th position and will include the LCQ competitors.
I just asked and the short answer I got was "the prize money will be paid to the entrant of the race".
Trying to clarify but that seems to point towards the rider gets it if they sign themselves up.
I also asked two mid-level teams that have riders in the races and they had no clue that the purse was being paid to the team, they were under the impression it went to the riders. Although one admitted if it was going to the teams they would maybe consider a split of revenue due to the fact that the additional three races are 100% out of pocket for the team as they didn't gain any additional sponsor dollars to do the three SMX rounds.
Thanks for looking into it.
oof, so potentially what a rider thought there were making could be cut in half by their team. If I got paid half of what I was expecting, I don't think I'd see it as a nothing burger.
In the announcement press conference, Dave Prater says they will for sure be paying the LCQ riders just like in Supercross. I'm guessing that comes out of the $400k race purse.
He talks about it in his interview around the 20 minute mark in the video I linked at the top of the page
Is this usual ? Does the entrant usually get the prize money or the rider ?
Edited my post. It does come out of the 400k purse.
