Most guys find them to be uncomfortable.
Yet they all won championships in them 🤔
No one is stopping anyone from wearing one.
If Jett Lawrence and Deegan were wearing them everyone at the local race the following weekend would have one. I dont buy the theyre not comfortable, the new ones are so low profile you cant even fill them. Right now the fad is very little protection in gloves, gear, padding.

I think they were being used less and less but as soon as Musquin removed his and won a race I can’t recall seeing them in the pros(could be wrong, maybe I just haven’t noticed)
What I find funny about neck braces is that the first ones that came out were so restrictive that you could hardly turn your head while wearing them.
The new ones allow a lot more movement but at that point how much protection are they offering? Seems to me the older versions offered more protection but to get more riders to buy them they had to reduce the protection offered to where now there probably isn't a lot of difference between wearing and not wearing them.
So is a chair
Has there been a similar movement away from knee braces? I know Webb doesnt use them, how many more riders dont?
Theyre under the riders pants so its hard to know how many riders are using them. If everybodys going to less protection does that include knee braces too?
Find it weird not a single pro seems to be sporting one.
Maybe they get in the way, maybe they are annoying, but they can also help prevent a bad situation.
I wore a Leatt 10yrs ago. Never even noticed it when I was riding at all. I took a break from riding and by the time I came back nobody was wearing them anymore. So I guess i just followed the crowd, to be honest, and stopped wearing one. It sure wasn't uncomfortable to me though
He's not active but doesn't RV still wear one?
Gajser wears one.
I still see a lot of young kids wearing them. Most parents want to protect their beloved children so they will take any precaution that is available. I bought them for all my grandkids who ride and I’ve heard a complaint from any of them about comfort
Kyle Peters put one back on after breaking his neck in SX and Preston Killroy still wears one.
After #3 crashed into the wall, I always wore one racing/practicing and I can’t say they bothered me. I didn’t ever look back either.
I would imagine more people would wear one is mostly it. Sometimes when these dudes crash , Jesus.
Jett could probably wear three of them without noticing them at all lol
Me personally... I don't have enough neck for one .. as low profile as they are these days...
Just from videos I know Deegan an forkner both wear them anyway
Pit Row
It’d be tough to have any data to back it up, but I felt like I was way more prone to collarbone breaks/fractures while wearing one than I was to a neck injury without wearing one. I had three pretty standard crashes in three years of wearing one; one bruise and two fractures. Maybe dumb luck, but my 2¢.
Edit: Also had three pretty big get offs while road racing where there isn’t a neck brace available and came away without injury.
Maybe there isn’t a compelling case for them. Did neck injuries reduce when they became popular, and then increase again when riders stopped wearing them?
There has only been one medical study on them, and it was very small in scope, but did seem to heavily favor their use:

Besides Gajser, I noticed Lotte Van Drunen still using one last night during the GP.
She has a pretty serious retention / anchoring system for it on her. She's got a long neck, like Jett.
I still use one, as I damaged ( well, a f**kwit in a car slamming into me ) my neck back in 93 and I can't / don't want to risk another injury. I have no problem with any interference, even with being a 'no necked' individual. Though I don't know how those that use them, without a system to stop them bouncing around, run them. I reckon that's probably the main issue that people have with them being a 'nuisance', all while not realizing it's a problem they are inducing.
Please, someone with Photoshop Skills, put a stack of NBs on this picture - like those neck rings some cultures have.
Ryno Boycott like knee braces?
That is not a study nor should be called one. It comes up with conclusions it can't possibly back up because of missing data.
Call it a theory and teach it to millions.
I don’t care if they wear one or not, I am surprised these AMA races feature none. It is cool people can pull random riders out of the mix that sport one. Just seems with all the serious injuries in sports , more people would be interested in one.
RV doesn’t wear one anymore, and he used to run the foam 661 neck roll before Leatt came out
If he started wearing one the nut huggers would be on here defending them like it was their hill to die on.
I think it comes down to yea, I could put one on, and maybe it will save me, but so could not riding a bike or anything else.
Tiga 243 still wears one. Some of the MXGP guys do. I don't always wear one in practice, but 100% always wear it when I race.
