How do you do a top end or split the cases on a motocross bike?
New tech requires new skills.
Great find thanks 👍
Detailed review about teething issues, definitely to watch if you ordered one to understand if it will work with or that aftermarket parts, useless side stand, plug needs adapter for 110 V, need more info in owner's manual and so on.
He also states that it's hands down the best bike he's ever ridden, very easy to adapt to and incredible handling (as usual).
In the comments he says that on his hardpack track he gets about 1% per min, that is over 1h30 min range, awesome. As expected range will depend very much on the track and rider level.
That's my video. The Varg is REALLY amazing to ride. Range so far outlasts me on the MX track so no concern for me! I'm 45 and just ride for fun these days. I'm a 90s 125B rider and still ride about the same level but take less risks. I've been getting around 1% per minute on the track. A soft/tilled track would likely load it up more and use more power.
The motor is super impressive in how well connected it feels to throttle input. Super easy to ride. Power above the 55hp setting is insane. The 80hp setting is fun for a lap to scare yourself but really unusable. Its unlike any fast 450 i've ridden or even a 500 2 stroke. Its MUCH stronger and crazier. So i'm really comfortable between 45-50hp settings on my track.
What is the most surprising to me is the chassis and suspension. It takes jump landings so well its incredible. No detectable compression or rebound feel, no "slap down" feel. No feel at all really! Even on fairly big flat landings it feels a lot like KYB A-Kit. Cornering is so smooth and tractable and easy to drift out with total control. It feels like a mountain bike in corners. Weightless feel! Its heavy to lift on the stand but feels lighter than a 125 when you are riding it. Overall its the best bike i've ever ridden. And yes, its got some flaws but just about all of them can be easily solved by Stark and i'm sure they will. So far they have been really responsive at least.

Might be impossible to ask this and get a straight answer before the haters jump in, but I'm truly curious..... to those who have ridden the bike, do you miss anything about the ICE? The noise? The feel? Anything? Or is it really a non issue? I'm so used to it that it's just hard for me to accept that doing away with it doesn't take away anything at all from the overall experience, but that could be totally my uninformed personal bias. So even if you love the thing, is there anything you miss or find difficult to get used to? All anyone seems to focus on is the range, but I'm more interested in the gut level riding experience. What are the tradeoffs?
After riding the Varg, I can't say I miss anything about my other bikes. The power is better, the control is better, its easier to ride fast, does not wear you out as fast and makes no noise! Just feels absolutely awesome. I just bought a new 350sxf last month and the Varg just showed up. I decided to ride my KTM and made it 3 laps before putting it away and grabbing the Varg! I can't bring myself to sell my gas bikes but they definitely are going to get a lot less use now.
" .. Its heavy to lift on the stand but feels lighter than a 125 when you are riding it. "
Seriously ? I've been on the fence about taking delivery on mine due to the weight, I'll be riding single track exclusively & some of it gets a bit tight & awkward - but if the thing stops, turns & handles like a 125, I'm all in on that.
Thanks for info and the video. Really interesting stuff! None of the problems you describe are deal breakers, but one wonders how they made it into production (like the kickstand). I also was never a big fan of the phone on the handlebars. Seems so much development work for something everybody has in their pocket anyway.
The effects of not having a spinning crank or only a tiny amount of inertia from the spinning motor and set of gears are really interesting. Years ago I switched back from 450 to 250f to 125 and was convinced that the lighter feel had much more to do with the crank inertia than with the actual bike weight.
Have you ridden the bike in really deep conditions? There the missing inertia could be a problem pushing through deep sections (a problem the Alta had). Stark said they fixed this electronically.
Thanks so much bigoldbeef for posting the video and Ray Knight for making it and answering some honest questions here. That's what this thread should be about.
Indeed. The cell replacement is diy for sure but as a man of the world how would you go about flattening a dead but fully charged battery?
Ride the bike until it's dead!
cutie
I find it very troubling, how eerily quiet his thread gets when someone who actually takes possession of a Varg posts what they think of it. All their effusive positivity is, well, just so off-putting. For the sake of Goldmember's mental health, can we please - PLEASE - change the subject back to how electric motors haven't changed a single bit in over a century and/or how the Varg will catch on fire and burn the entire planet down to a smoldering cinder if a pro rides it at Lommel for more than two laps?
This whole "It's the best bike I've ever owned" bullshit is just so annoying. It's nothing but a conversation-ender - so stop it.
Okay, so take range out of the equation and this thread will be about aspects of the bike just like discussion on ICE bikes.
Note: Race range will be based on length of race based on range of said eMX bike. Problem solved for the current customers or potential customers. 🤪
I have not watched the video yet so I do not know what the complaint was about the phone. These reasons for including one would be addressing the R&D to include a phone.
They might have gone with including a phone to make sure it was harder to , for lack of a better word " hack into".. DJI drones and the app they use will not run smoothly on every phone. Lost drones, and just about every feature can be impacted. DJI has a recommended device list and people were sometimes needing to buy a dedicated phone/tablet on earlier models. DJI is going towards building their own android devices into the controllers now as options for many models. The R&d may have been easier to get the app to work on a single phone VS a bunch of phones. Along with being able to go to a phone maker and have them handle that part. Educated guess .
A local had their Varg delivered. I only have second hand info on his thoughts so I'll refrain from posting what I heard. There is a chance that there could be a Varg racing an NESC vet class soon.Hoping he shows up at a Southwick round. I have not seen him post anything about it anyplace yet.
Lol. None of your thoughts are first hand, it’s all speculation and conjecture 😂
What's the frame number, or approximate frame number, I'm trying to work out how many Vargs have shipped!
I thought it was clear I was comparing it to the experience I have with DJI Drones. I did not say that was the reason. Just that it could be , because of issues I know of first hand with DJI's App and what DJI has done to help and how long they have been refining their app.
What is my experience with DJI drones ? I was relating a similar area I am very familiar with to make what I say is a guess on the device aspect.
I figured that educated guess pretty much covered that I was not stating those reasons as 100% why Stark went that way. . Thank you for helping me add to my word count and send the thread back off its rails.
Pit Row
Crazy to even say this but it feels LIGHTER than my TC125 while riding. Its nuts.
So far i've ridden on my private track which is all hardpack with a few sand sections. Mostly hardpack. And a little trail riding but no difficult trails yet. Looking forward to it. I'm sure range will be effected in deeper tracks. The power is really butter smooth yet crazy strong. I think riding in a deep track will work really well. Not for the battery! But for control and power its going to be awesome. Traction is a lot more controllable.
Mine is 0042
As far as range goes I think it would last a full moto with Jett Lawrence riding it on a deep track. Or 1.5-2 hours of me riding on the same track 🤣.
Its not a concern for me. I can't ride this thing for an hour straight on an MX track. I can't do more than 30 minutes at any kind of fast pace on any bike so its all good!
What is most impressive is the chassis, handling and suspension! Its better than my 21 YZ250F and 23 KTM 350SXF by a good margin. Corners better, better manners in the air, and suspension feels like A-kit KYB on hard landings yet stays super level in whoops. Its a super inpressive chassis! They really got this one dialed. Its not plush, just a super controlled feel. I'd swap this chassis to any of my gas bikes if I could! Its awesome.
Thank You for taking the time to make a video and post about Your experience with the Varg. Its wild to keep hearing how light it feels.
The more people that I hear opinions from on the power levels, the more I start to think that the 35HP bike that Dust is talking about , might be more of a "real" MX bike than I first thought. Cool to see more brands making more options for people to enjoy themselves on. Gas brands as well as Electric.
Goldmember and Co. are seething in disbelief with all these legit deliveries.
Well .. apparently the kickstand is too short, so there's that.
Bryan's was 0021, so at least 21 delivered!
Hard to say I guess because we don't know if they are delivering them in sequential order to each country? Like did they ship 0023 to Germany and 0024 to France? Not sure how they are working it. Seems like they are starting to land though. Its going to get real weird at the tracks next year!
With 18,000 pre-orders, to meet demand Stark needs to seriously ramp up production.
