Just finished this podcast with Adam Bailey. I took it in a very different direction HERE.
A lot of talk about investors, turning a profit, mistakes and overpromising. Please listen.
Available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify etc. Yes, I will type it up. No, I can't fix my accent.
Waiting for the type up thx in advance 🙌
Good interview!
That was good interview that had a lot of humble pie in it where he admits they went about it almost entirely wrong...good on him for realizing that. But it did leave me with some questions...regarding the meetings with the teams he claims now that it wasn't to get them to allow their riders to compete but just to inform them of what they were doing? Then why and how did the KTM meeting go so bad? He danced around the competing series question by saying that their intention was never to compete with US SX, he never mentions US MX or MXGP regarding the time of year they chose to hold their series.
Couple of other points I enjoyed was his comment regarding an offseason series...He doesn't like the term offseason because it is their season and that they will continue to reinvent moving forward.
I'm happy that they have realized that there window of opportunity is them being a fall series that doesn't compete with other series I wish them the best and hope it grows and strengthens into a successful fall racing series.
LOL on the accent comment. If that's how you talk it doesn't bother me, but I'm sure some complain.
If it bothers you (probably doesn't), Arnold Schwarzenegger talks accent removal classes when he got into acting, so if you have any desire I'm sure you could change your accent some.

Just started. Does anyone believe his 20k crowd figure for the turn out at villa park ?
Do you think it was more or less?
I think Less , full capacity is 42k. I don’t think it was near half full
but i only watched it on tv ,
Well I read a LOT of crap thrown at Will Christien and I understand her WAAAAY more easily than Lewis.
Reed said on pulp that MX sports should be the only promotion that should be upset, that tells me they knew they would be going up against the nationals. I haven’t listened to the interview yet though.
He is a great public speaker. Hard not to like him. If they push this series to October-December I’d be fan number 1 for more racing. I watch even now, but hate guys missing outdoors. If they move later as he mentioned, a lot of us “haters” would be much more supportive.
Well, that’s just great.
Great job Lewis. You asked the tough questions.
I don't see US riders doing all three series.
The US riders already complain about 17 rounds of SX followed by 12 (now 11) weekends of MX before getting a break.
Who thinks they'd sign up for more racing after MX before going right back into SX, making it essentially a year-round schedule for them?
Perhaps it would be more realistic to expect riders to be running two of the series - some SX-only riders in it and some MX-only in it, but not the same riders in all three series - or riders running only part of the SX and MX series? Either way, this plus 28 or 29 other rounds is a long grind.
🤣 Great as always Lewis, being an Aussie I really get your sense of humour, big fan here!!
R
England to me was their 4th Event.
I don’t like their current format .
For me & my yrs, it’s dangerous & not safe.
Rotating 250 then 450 as we do here currently, allows proper time. They’re back to back 3 in a row isn’t safe to me.
Lopes barely had time for their clutch change.
They were lucky as there’s NO time for error, etc.
Their own interviewer was clearly not welcomed by the few riders trying to focus on getting their heart rate & breathing stabilized.
I believe if they stay with this back to back, it’s gonna bite some1 & not in a good way.
Every Gate Drop/Race, whether a Super Pole which is 1 Lap or a Heat Race, etc., has the Riders adrenaline 100%.
That weighs on the bikes mechanicals much more than say Practice.
I get their trying to be different, tougher, whatever, but I believe it’ll prove a danger beyond a normal type format.
All I care about is people judging me for my accent, not my work.
I haven’t rewatched the event, but here was my eyeball arithmetic last Saturday…..
Pit Row
Your accent is just fine.... If someone here wants to judge you, your brains, your love of the sport, all based on how you speak.... Ignore it. Proves their IQ without question. Thank you, for all you do, for Moto..... Glad to have to your insight on the sport. You have more intellect in your pinky finger, than all the haters combined have in their entire erector sets ...... Fuck em'.
Haha what a guy!
Great interview Lewis.
You are doing really good work.
Agree...don't engage the trolls, Lewis. You'll never please everyone so f$%^ck 'em.
Yeah I would say that it was about 30% blocked off with both ends and the lower section , taking you 60 % figure which is pretty accurate imo I get 17k. So probably not far off 20,
it’s def not youthstream level of padding out spectator numbers
I think Luongo might have said attendance was around 55K, even with a 42K max capacity!
edit:
Actually the 55K number would have been funneled through his hand puppet, Giff.
Lewis,
what exactly happened at the WSX/KTM meeting? Lots of references, but understandably no details from Adam.
I enjoyed the interview. Your accent was just fine. It was reminding myself that football wasn’t the NFL and that bum wasn’t a homeless man that had me pause. Good questions and informative.
Great interview. Questions that needed answers, but sadly some still won’t be content.
And anyone with accent issues should stop and think that they themselves have a horrid accent to everyone else outside their own backyard.
The point of difference is their consecutive, short spaced three race format.
I think that the mechanics being part of the show, and the drama, is something that is real and can be made into a major point of interest for the broadcast event.
The Lopes clutch change was a perfect example.
Tony Cochrane's approach was brash, telling everyone that they need WSX, and KTM didn't respond well.
Thanks for all of the positive feedback. I tried to do my job and be a real journalist... I'm sick of boring interviews.
I hadn't interviewed Adam before now because I refused to ask, "How excited are you for WSX to start?" Yawn.
