Top 15 guy looking to borrow CRF450R Vortex ECU for Southwick…

Trying to reach out to the Vital community to see if anyone has one for Southwick. I was only able to provide Lars Van Berkel #787 a bone stock CRF450R with 40 hours on it for Red Bud that I put together last Tuesday night before the race and in Moto 1 he stalled it on the first lap and came back to 19th from near 30th.

In moto 2, he charged from 21st to 13th and came within 0.3 seconds of 12th after being down 11 seconds once he passed into 13th with about 4 laps left.

Since he’s a beach racer, I think he can do even better at Southwick (hoping for top 10) with just a little more power to help on the starts and out of turns. Figured it’s worth a shot if anyone would be willing to offer one up.

Has anyone reached out to Vortex directly to see if they'd be willing to assist?

The vast majority of race teams buy their ECUs from Vortex. Not much in the way of freebies or loaners there.

Unfortunately it has to be a Honda since that is what he is contracted to ride in Europe, but certainly appreciate the offer. What a generous offer!

Imo. ,easier to buy one then wait around to see if you can borrow one.    Remap it, delivery etc.  And sell at almost the cost you bought it for .

I would donate to a GoFundMe but there are currently 13 kids in my news feed whose parents need my help to get little Jonny to Lorettas now that he qualified for the biggest amateur national in the country.

I talk to Lars’ Dutch friend Joel (showpony films) a bit, he was just at my house telling us stories about Lars’ racing the nationals last year.

Ive got a few Vortex lying around, but only programmed for KTM.

Hate to say it but Lars may have to bite the bullet and spend the $1000.00- he can sell it easily after he uses it.

I had two Vortex ECU’s , one on 2021 CRF450R and other one on 2021 CRF450RL and both of them had  the same problem. Bike will shut of sometime. Happen twice on the CRF450R  and second time I went over the Bars and broke my ribs ! After the second time I put the stock ECU back and no problem, eventually I sold the bike. On the RL same thing happen several times , bike quit and I had to restart it again. I still have the RL . I won’t recommend the Vortex for Moto with my experience, trail riding ok , no big deal when the bike stalls I guess.

Cool your off topic…. Anyone with an extra ECU programmed to a different bike bring it to the race. Maybe Jamie can re map it at the race.

Nope, I don't and if I did it would be all the way in SoCal. On top of that, Southwick is 42 hours away.

This is why i sold my vortex instead of mapping it for my new bike. When the stock ECU went back in, zero issues

Super cool guy Lars, I hope he can get good parts for his bike and have a good race.
He spent this summer training a lot on our beaches, and without hesitation he accepted the possibility of racing the MXGP of Argentina.

of course he stretches the throttle cable to the fullest

I think he is also a member of Vital, good luck Lars if you read this!

Not being a prick, he’s just grateful to have a bike to use here and hasn’t asked for a thing. I’m the one trying to help get it for him to maximize his potential while he is here.

Yo mate. I brought as much as I could. Suspension, tank, grips, gear, sprockets, also my own ECU, but it runs different in the heat and humidity, unfortunately we can’t replicate the temprature and stuff in Europe. Also my bike in Europe has all different parts on it, that makes the temperatures on the bike different.. I feel like I prepared pretty good. Maybe not as prepared as the 16 guys in front of me in the overall, but at least I might have the most fun. Thanks for the positives by the way  Smile

just enjoy it man, Corey is just tying to help where he can. He isn’t forcing you to give me something.. Hope I at least make you smile a bit by coming over and trying things out of my comfort zone .

I wouldn’t call you a “prick” you just seem super unaware of how things actually work.
