I never once said they’d be beating Jett. You don’t think our typical top 10 guys not being there to fill out the top 10 doesn’t make the field weaker overall? You don’t think the field is weaker when the only two guys who can straight up run with Jett aren’t there (Tomac and Sexton)? Do you think guys like Harlan, Drake, Pape, Locurcio, etc would be normally battling for 10-15th place? Do you think those guys would be beating any of the above mentioned guys? Of course not. That means the field is weak. Almost half of the guys who would be in points paying positions every single week aren’t on the track. That’s how I measure a weak field.
I don’t even know how someone can argue about this.
Harlan and those are in the top 10. Not coz we are missing 5 factory riders. Coz we are always missing 4 or 5 factory guys.
It's coz the guys after the factory riders are all doing wsx. Guys like mcelrath, savatgy, Wilson and anstie are no longer there. They would normally be 8-12.
The main issue with this season is jett doesn't have a rival.
Add sexton and it would be a great season. Just like last year. No 1 complained they were 30 seconds up on the field. Coz sexton and tomac were battling.
No arguments there. Chase has more raw speed at this point. Definitely blows up periodically
Chris, thanks for mentioning this…really bothered me as well…so much that I didn’t vote.
i appreciate talent, hard work, and dedication no matter where it comes from.

I never said “Jett’s competition is weaker because those guys are out.” I know only Tomac and Sexton would most likely battle Jett weekly. (Which realistically does make Jett’s competition for the title “weaker”) I said the “field is weak.” As in the entire field as a whole is weak. When we have Sexton, Tomac, Anderson, Craig, Mookie, Barcia, Roczen, Wilson, Savatgy, McElrath etc all out then it’s inevitably a much weaker field. Those are all guys who would be points receiving riders every single week. Most of the guys currently battling for 10th-20th would be battling to get a single point, not crack the top 10 if the field wasn’t this depleted.
Against. There's no way he gets a perfect season with a full gate of all the normal Riders. If he does it, I'm applying the asterisk
I normally prefer to see Americans win our series but its impossible not to like the Lawrences. They do things the right way 99% of the time.
I do not want perfect seasons and want good racing but I can clap for the Lawrence family. They've earned it.
Unless your name is Sexton or Tomac it would make no difference.
The other perfect seasons had the same elements. No matter what we thought of the other riders they just weren’t at the level of the guy winning.
In 2004 it was Carmichael, daylight, then Reed and Windham were battling over 2nd and 3rd place, then daylight, then everyone else.
Same in 2008. Ferry, Short etc were good riders but no-one was anywhere near Stewart. Reed was SX only, RC had retired and Villopoto was still in 250’s. Stewart hit the sweet spot of timing. That doesn’t detract from his achievement because it takes a lot more than just being faster to go 24-0.
A perfect season requires not only a great rider but minimal genuine competition and a good deal of luck with no major crashes, injuries or mechanical failures.
Last year the first four rounds had four different winners. Sexton, Anderson, Roczen and Tomac. At Red Bud, moto 1, 10 minutes in Tomac had 21 seconds over Aaron Plessinger, 3 laps to go it was 1 minute. I add AP in there since he is one of the few top guys from 2022 racing 2023. For people to think that Jett would be running through Sexton and Tomac is just hilarious.
2023 Hangtown 450 moto 2, Jett Lawrence beat Aaron Plessinger by 1:27 seconds, so using your math, Jett would have beat Tomac by 27 seconds

You cannot pick random races and make up your own results.
In 22 mx wasn't plessinger coming back from a broken wrist. On a new bike no1 liked? 22 was his worst mx season.
Look at 21. Half way the top 5 in points.
Ferrandis, roczen, plessinger, sexton, tomac.
So by using your logic and the 21 results as the base for my claim.
This year's championship if tomac and sexton lined up they would be coming 6th and 7th?
Makes sense?? No.
I did not make up my own results. I only used the example of the race I was currently watching. I put the times in the post only to reference that what's going on this year isn't much different than the last. It would be a three way battle at the front right now with last year's front runners in the leading the way. I thought coming into this year that Jett ,the rookie, would be taking notes not far back in third sneaking in a moto win here and there.
Your using 2 different races to make up results of a future race that doesnt exsist. That doesn't work.
Example.
Pala 1 this year Jett beat ferrandis by 30 seconds.
Pala 1 2021 ferrandis beat tomac by half a minute.
If jett races tomac he wins by 1 minute. The result of those 2 races prove me to be 100% correct.
Every damn race is different don't try to compare races. It doesn't work.
I like Jett and think he is the future face of SX/MX . . . I hope Jett doesn't have a perfect season - if he does, he lucked into it. Only one (1) rider from last season's top 9 finishers is racing this season. I love Kroc but he was not a title threat last season and came off the couch and was a very close 2nd to Jettson last week.
1. Eli Tomac 546 point
2. Chase Sexton 539 points
3. Jason Anderson 440 points
4. Ken Roczen 394 points
5. Christian Craig 373 points
6. Ryan Dungey 359 points
7. AP 322 points
8. Barcia 303 points
9. Savatgy 222 points
James Stewart gets all kinds of accolades for his perfect season, but considering his competition in 2008 wouldn't you have to admit that he lucked into that 24-0 season if you're going to hold Jett Lawrence to that same standard. No riders racing against him in 2008 like RC, No RV, No Dungey, No Eli, No Roczen, No Sexton and had Jett Lawrence been racing in 2008, I'd venture a bet that there's no way James Stewart would have had a perfect season. I think its insulting to Jett Lawrence if he has a perfect season to say he lucked into it.
Hard to get excited when his main competition is Marchbanks and Masterpool and an out of the retirement home Kenny.
I do not care. This season blows either way. Most boring season I have witnessed and I’ve been watching since 1985.
So! You must have skipped 2008

I would love to see Jett go 22-0 because it's an incredible feat to do such a thing. To have no crashes that cost you a win, no mechanicals, no other factors is what makes it incredible. Much like Stewart in 2008, Jett can only race who is there. And right now he is beating two former 250 National Champions (one of which is a 2 time 450 SX Champion), a former 450 National champion, and he beat Kenny Roczen who is a former MX2 World Champion, and 2-time 450 National Champion. Jett is not going up against amateurs or 2nd rate riders. They are just not doing their job like he is.
The one rider that did have 2 perfect seasons, Ricky Carmichael, did so against a bit stiffer competition, with the likes of Chad Reed, Ezra Lusk, Kdub, Tortelli and the like. That makes RC stand out a bit in my opinion. The only other rider who almost had a perfect season against real stiff competition was Mark Barnett in 1981. He beat up and coming hotshots O'Mara, Ward, and Johnson and probably would have had a perfect season had it not been for his injury at the end of the season. But he built such a big lead that he won the title anyways!
He’s a phenom and to see a rookie pull off a perfect season would be historic, so yes bring it on.
It’s worth watching to see a potential rookie perfect season or someone break through and beat him. Depleted field or not it’s an awesome start.
So! maybe today is the day Jett's perfect season comes to an end, Chase looked really fast in that 1st moto. What's amazing is the pace they were running, 3rd place was 51 seconds behind the Honda boys. Some awesome racing today and glad to see Hunter back in the drivers seat in the 250f class.
I checked to see who the OP was on this poll...and I wasn't surprised, at all.
Honda fan boy. Shocker.
Agree, Chase and Eli smoked everyone last year by 30-40seconds and Chase is still doing it this year. The only problem is Jett is 10 seconds ahead of him. The depth of the field is irrelevant for the conversation around wins.
I'm indifferent honestly, it would be pretty cool but I'd love to see someone else click off a win too.
I'm not going to give Jett grief about the depleted field thing, that's not his fault and he can only race the people that line up.
Jett is doing his job…winning races. No harm, no foul. It’s the same thing as when guys like RC, Stewart, MC and others came on the scene and were simply superior to the competitors they were racing against. It happens…and there will be another coming up through the ranks that will show Jett his rear fender in time. I’d like to see some closer competition, for some other riders to pull off some wins just to stir the pot…but for the moment, it looks like it’s Jett’s “moment”.
If Jett goes the perfect season then he's earned it no matter who is not supposedly racing. I don't think Tomac would have anything for the rookie 450 rocket ship and he is just on a different level right now. As for being a salty American I guess I'm always glad to see a fellow countryman being on top but I was a JMB fan as a kid and never understood why he got such a cold shoulder here in the states while he was racing.
