Guy I know was looking for a 125 2 for his son, called me and asked if
I knew anyone that had one. I didn't, so I called a few guys and dealers
I've dealt with. Nobody had one. New or used.
But, I was informed by one dealer Kawa, Zook and Yamaha will be bringing
the 125 back. No date yet, no taking of orders, but it's in the works, and is gonna happen.

Ain't life great?

Killing off the 125 class was one of if not the most stupid thing to happen in the history of MX. Kids going from 85's straight up to a 250? What kind of genass thought that was a good idea? Seriously.

A 250F with the same kind of horsepower numbers that a 2-stroke 500 was putting out back in the day no less.

My old CR500 made 55HP at the crank. Does a 50 HP 250F even exist? The best 450's are barely making 60 HP with big $$ heads and pipes.

Somehow, every sport except dirt bikes gets to run 2 strokes.

I guess they couldn't deny the fact a newer 2 stroke is cleaner than a compareble HP 4 stroke now.

Seriously, I couldn't agree with you more. Way short-sighted.

Tiki's right, it's a rumor.
But, this guys shop sell's a good variety of bikes, Ducati to Kawasaki to H-D.
I've never known him to bs, supposedly he got the word at a few dealer meetings
lately. But you never know. I can see them wanting to keep quiet, I mean, there's a ton of 250f's out ther that still need to go.

But if there's gonna be a 125, kind of "college boy" class in Europe, somebody's
gonna build 'em.

he's talking "back in the day"....... back in the day isn't a liquid cooled 500....... it's late 70's early 80's...... didn't the famed and feared YZ465 put out about 42 at the crank (and it felt like about 200 at the time)???

Suzuki still has 125's and 250's listed on their European and Aussie websites. They still make them they just don't import them to the USA anymore.

I thought kawi was still doing the same but they have none listed that I can find.

It would be so cool to get back to the 125 and 250 class with a possible open class thrown in.

2 things the guy didn't want.
A KTM, bad experience with his son on their 85, and really liked green when they had enough and changed brands. #2 was he didn't want his kid on a 250.

Sure, they're out there. TM, Husky, the overseas ones that don't get here.
I wonder what's up with that?

Yamaha's fettled two-smoker could be a giant killer
Yamaha has taken the wraps off its new limited edition two-stroker, which adds another model to its motocross line-up: meet the YZ144.

The new model was recently unveiled to bolster Yamaha's local motocross offerings and was developed in Australia for competitive riding.

Priced at $9599, the new Yammy motocrosser will probably compete against 250 four-strokes and 150 two-strokes in the senior Lites class.

Powered by a liquid-cooled 144cc two-stroke engine wedged into a YZ125 chassis and hooked up to a six-speed gearbox, Yamaha reckons the new YZ144 will be a "serious contender" and considering the bike is fairly light at 95kg wet (with eight litres of juice), we're not inclined to disagree.

Yamaha reckons the 2135mm long YZ144 will be able to compete "not only in the Junior up to 150cc two-stoke class, but also MX/SX Lites and Class 1 off-road competition where two-strokes up to 200cc compete." Big claims, them, but there is sure to be a lot of interest in this trick new model.

With more power across a wider rev range thanks to a range of tweaks, including several new internal components, Yamaha's new two-smoker has been "thoroughly tested to ensure the high level of reliability".

Yamaha Racing Development (YRD) explored the idea of the 144 and then developed the bike in-house after extensive testing. Compared to the YZ125, the new model gets a modified crankcase, plus cylinder and head, not to mention a custom-made 58mm piston and ring (both made in Germany) to produce a bore and stroke of 58mm x 54.5mm, which results in a 143.9cc capacity.

Other changes include new carburettor jets, an hour meter, modified L+R power valves, plus new look decals on the front and rear guards and radiator shrouds.

The YRD-tuned bike is "not a backyard bolt-on kit" says the company, explaining that because of the extensive amount of machining work undertaken, a parts kit will not be offered.

If you want even more herbs, various upgrades on top of the YZ144's are available, from vendors like Cisco's Race Tuning which offers things like crankshaft mods that increase displacement to 149.2cc, custom ported cylinders and HPI programmable ignition units to name a few.

As is, the Yamaha YZ144 will sell for $9599 - not including dealer delivery and statutory charges - and will available via the Yamaha dealer network in limited numbers.

I live in Brasil part time and they do not even allow 2 strokes to be imported at all! If i want an MX bike it is a 4 stroke and it costs 22K minimum even if i buy it in the USA and export it to Brasil because of import fee's and taxes..

The smokers may be around for a while but eventually no country will allow them. And this includes weed whackers, chain saws and the like. If you have one you can keep it here but no more new ones at all!

While if they have gotten rid of two strokes because of polluting the enviroment and causing global warming that whole chirade maybe coming down. People have recently hacked into a prominent global warming advocates computer system to find out there were e mails saying how they altered there data to reflect there agenda. Hopefully this will wake people and relize some of thr regulations we have are to extreme. So we can ride what we want, when we want, where we want.

And still be able to buy flat screen tv in cali..

I know one thing for sure.

sitting in a meeting in october, I heard a guy say that "they won't be doing a 150, and think the 85 is right machine for the 12-15 class. he was a "name" with suzuki. this was in rebuttle to a honda dude in the same meeting telling us how great and perfect a 150 is.

I sure would like to see new 125's being available. hell even in thier "old" style the bike would work good for a transition machine. I had to buy a used one for the 13 year old last month. The way he goes through bikes, be nice to start off new!

a couple of Rm 125's would be the ticket! I rather have Hondas but well that won't be happening anytime soon.....

Honda will be assembling a few 125s from the spare parts bins for the new series that will be run at the GP next year. The chances of you guys getting to buy a NEW honda 125? - ZERO.
