Could Jett switch sports?

Obviously Jett is an insane phenom in motocross/ supercross - but is he talented enough on 2 wheels to switch disciplines and win? With his talent and athleticism could Jett be the next motoGP or downhill mtb champ?

Can we wait to see how many titles he wins in the next 2-3 years before asking these questions?

Jett’s gonna play for the Chicago White Sox next year, ending the season with a .202 batting average and three home runs.

You should. It would help eliminate stupid posts.

People in Birmingham will still be talking about it 3 decades later.

Give me an example of anyone who switched and excelled to championship status.  There are many ex moto racers who changed disciplines.  Some did just fine but I can't think of any who were sensational.  JMB who retired early from moto went on to road racing didn't he?  How did he do?  RC went car racing.  MC and Rick Johnson went truck racing.  I don't think any were sensational.

Jett's phenomenal and it's great witnessing what he's doing. Who knows how far he will go? But his fans have become intolerable on social media imo.

If you can win in another discipline I would say that is a victory, MC did just that

Good Lord,  Ryan Sipes. The Lawrence lad, could do well at a number of disciplines, sans trials, Irish road racing, desert racing. But give him time and support, flat track, road racing, gncc, enduro, heck yeah!

RJ went on to win quite a few “truck” races.  He won his class last year in the 1000.

There's a couple of Dakar riders that switched between bikes and cars and won.

It's less about the talent/capability and more about the time it takes to develop championship winning skills.  Most successful athletes at elite level have been training and developing skills for one sport/discipline most of their lives.  At some early stage they could have taken a different path and been successful at something else.

However to get all the way to the top in one sport, then switch to another means they are well behind all the other champion level athletes in that second sport.

Didn't MJ try to play baseball and was just another name? Jett is an elite athlete but his craft has been crafted to what he does. If he suddenly switched to a different craft I'm sure he'd fall behind the other names that have invested in that craft from day one. I'm sure if he applied his talents towards anything else he'd be good because he's an athlete at the end of the day but different disciplines carry different talents.

I'm sure he'd be good at whatever he put his focus on involving two wheels but just because he rips in MX/SX doesn't necessarily he'd instantly crush in other sports without a ton of practice and time invested in that. In your example Jett would 100% get smoked in MotoGP, it's so much different.

RJ and MC had very successful short course careers. They were sensations right off the bat and beat established truck veterans right away. Both won championships. RJ races down in Baja too and does dam well. Deegan was also pretty dam good in a truck

Holy shit, even Stewart fans weren’t this bad. Even Lenny would think this is over the top.

Yes, Bo Jackson excelled at baseball and football, Deion Sanders did well at both I believe.  MJ tried baseball, but I think he was too old at that point to be very good at it.

I'm not sure what you mean here.  I have no problems with Jett's successes or those who like him.  Like I said, who knows what records he will break?  Only time will tell.  But I've heard things like he is going to break MC's and RC's records, Chase is faking injury to avoid racing him, the bit about mono was a lie, Chase had nothing for him, Tomac would be getting smoked if he was racing, he's racing at 80% and no one can beat him, etc. It's not just here or there, it's been all over social media.

It's fine to like your rider, but it's not ok to denigrate other riders and make things up. Besides, I don't think I'm the only one who has noticed his fans going a bit overboard with their banter. A little bit of perspective goes a long ways.  While Jett would be running up front racing for wins with both Chase and Eli in the running, no one is surprised he is 6 and 0 without them there.

The sarcasm went way over my head, kiwi fan.  I'm sorry for being a dummy and not seeing it, I feel a bit embarrassed now. Probably time for me to get off social media and just enjoy the racing.

Jeff Ward was pretty successful at everything he participated in after moto.

Jett could quit now and build a doughnut empire...
