Yup, I raced one exactly like that one. That scooter was slower than a 3 toed sloth. But it handled like a dream, go anywhere you wanted. Berms, blue groove, loose or big traction, it made no difference. It had to because you weren't getting any holeshots so you had to pass a lot of folks if you wanted to win. That was actually a 75.5 mid year release. Maico was always had aluminum tanks and they went back to aluminum tanks soon after with 76 AW I believe.

This one is a 250 rather than a 400 so much easier to get spinning and started than a Maico open bike.

My next project. It’s rough but mostly all there. This is a 74.5 model that had the factory modified frame.

Looks like it, but not 100% sure. The pipe is in good shape other than it’s rusty. I got a 70 square barrel in the deal also.

I had a 76 AW250 that was a wheelsmith motor fully reworked to WS specs. It was a  rocket to say the least.

Hah, the van was my buddy's.  It probably had 600,000 miles on it by 1980.

Swear, my first bike carrying vehicle was the 20 foot International Metro van that Campus Suzuki in Berkeley had.  I traded that bike for it.  Basically a big UPS type van; the motor was frozen and then someone gutted it.  The buddy that owned the Chevy love machine (Rich Wilson, you raced him a few) was a gifted mechanic, although this was Stone Age: after a can of Marvel Mystery oil across all cylinders and working it a bit in their parking lot we got it started and took it down to Golden Gate Fields where I learned to drive that beast.  I upgraded to a 59 stepside not too much later.
