Seriously, 72 SX Wins-that's a tall order

I believe James is the fastest SX racer of all time, they just don't give out an award for that.

won't happen. he's what, like 30 or more away right now? he's just past halfway and he already seems to be getting more and more disinterested in racing.

he's faster than anyone before him....... but then, so was Hannah, Bailey, RJ, Bayle, MC and RC.... each new generation benefits from advancements in bike technology, and more time to hone riding techniques.... how fast Hannah rode was unthinkable at the time....... same could be said for MC...... same can be said for Bubba now..... but 5 years from now, someone will be going faster than Bubba, but that won't mean they are the "best sx rider of all time"....... the best SX rider of all time is MC hands down, because of what he accomplished against some very talented fields.... when someone can win their first year in the big class, have a perfect season, and have more than 72 wins, then they can take the 'best sx rider of all time" title away from MC..... and i do NOT see that happening anytime soon..... RC couldn't do it.... Bubba can't do it.....

MC definitely has the stats for best SX rider of all time.

However, I think Stewart could possibly do it. Heck, how many races did he win last season, 10 or more, right?

JS1 is still relatively young and has at least 5 years ahead of him. If he keeps having years like last year he'll have another 30 in 3 more years.

MC was SX.

no rider, in the history of this sport, did as much to advance it as MC did, and that includes RC. Pastrana is a close second, but his advancing was more the FMX/XGames line.

imo, james can get 73 wins. power to him. 73 wins is NOT 7 SX championships. The only way, imo, that James could dethrone MC... get several perfect season, break 73 wins and 7 championships. Then we can talk. But until then, JS will just have to be content to be known as the fastest man ever on a motorcycle. Which I would accept in a heartbeat.

Gibby, I recall James saying he wanted to break ALL the records. He won't do that taking seasons off.
Could he? Hell yes.
Will he? I doubt it.

It seems to some us fans of the sport he has lost some interest in "breaking all the records". He knew he was signing a SX-only contract when he signed it.

He said that 72SX wins is one of his goals and at the rate he is winning in SX it will fall!! He will stick around long enough to make it happen I hope so!! RC wasn't trying to beat MC's record.When the record falls then every one will find another reason not to like him...JS1 GET WELL REAL SOON!!

MC had 29 250 SX wins by the time he turned 24 yrs old.
James will be 24 yrs old next month and he has 36 wins.

His flamboyant life seems to pull him into alot of directions too

They had totally different childhoods and careers though. At 14 Bubba probably didn't even go to school... At 14 MC got his first motocross bike.

I have been a fan of Bubbas and loved watching him come up to challenge RC, but he seems such a let down of late, consistently letting down his fans and especially the murky way he handled the Nationals. Sounds a bit dramatic, but as a fan I don't believe a word he (Or his manager) says anymore.

Just my opinion, but I don't think James can stay in the sport long enough. He turned pro in '02, so he's raced 8 pro years now. He's crashed really hard a whole lot of times trying to beat RC, so his body has already taken a lot of hits, and normal pro careers are only 10 years or so anyway. MC started in the 250 class earlier in his career and won lots of races right off the bat - James' first year in the big class resulted in him sitting out almost the whole season with a broken arm. For James to pass MC, he'd realistically have to stay in the sport for another 3 or 4 years at least, and I just don't see him doing it.

He has one thing going for him - SX only. If he was still trying to ride outdoors, that would seal the deal and there'd be no way he'd stay in the sport long enough. In addition, James is going to have to contend with Reed and Villopoto, and they're going to take some wins. James also makes enough mistakes and puts it on the ground often enough so that he's probably not going to put in 12+ wins in very many seasons.

It's all speculation, but if I was a betting man, I'd have to go with the stats and bet that MC will still hold on to his title as the king of SX. James is probably the FASTEST SX rider and probably the BEST SX rider, but that may not translate into being the WINNINGEST SX rider.

James can do it no doubt he is awesome... although with pourcel, RV, and Dungey coming he will have tough competition. However even if he does beat it to be above MC he would need at least 7 titles too and well as more wins. MC will always be the King of supercross until that happens.

I am not sure I see when they started has to do with it?
