Looks like Star boys are wearing over the jersey chest protectors on press day. If they use them, especially Deegan, how long before we see the local kids following? I remember when Pastrana rocked hand guards, I immediately wanted them and so did many others at the track.
That is one of the (many) points I like with Haiden, he uses protective gear and he shows it. Under the jersey or above doesn't matter for me. As an ambassador for the sport, especially for the youngsters, I think it is essential. Overall, nowadays the top pro's are wearing a little bit more protections than a few years ago I think, which is a positive thing.
Doesn’t hurt that most gear companies have recently put a lot of R&D into their body protection offerings.

Why 11 downvotes? Are all the middle aged studs on Vitalmx now against chest protection? I made that mistake and rode Club Moto without a shirt one morning. Later that afternoon I had a hot nurse picking gravel and dirt out of my back, before a doctor put 9 screws and 2 rods into my shattered hand.

Probably because guys wearing chest protectors on the outside is nothing new and has been a thing for awhile now.
It's just because outside in the day yous sweat so much in the chest protector. It's better to have the jersey against the skin to evaporate moisture.

There have been a few threads recently about chest protectors. It seems like a lot of people wear something. There are some good under the jersey options. I wear one sometimes but I mostly use my Thor over the jersey, similar to what Ferradis has on in that pic. I'm glad Deegan is wearing one, it's certainly not a bad thing. I would also hope that any kid young enough to be influenced by Deegan, has a parent who makes them wear something anyways.
It's almost always Thor guys in recent years so I wonder if Thor prefers if a few guys wear the over the jersey models to market their stuff. I still prefer over the jersey but wear an older TLD model.
Under the jersey reminds me of the euros from the 80s.
Having buised ribs on a number of occasions, I think having the option to get armour with a bit of trunk protection is a no brainier. Leatt 4.5 seems decent to me.
It might be hard to believe but that shirt wasn't going to prevent a broken hand.

A lot of graphics companies do them. I’ve seen them on DeCal Works, Roost MX, Factory Effex, etc…

Hand guards and chest protectors are popular where there are rocks mixed into the soil. Roost hurts bad around here...
A lot of the Star Riders did that in practice, press day, etc I noticed in SX, but come race time it was an under protector. And most likely not one made by THOR if I had to guess. I guess we will see later today.
I didn’t know that wasn’t a thing for some people. I’ve been wearing my chest protector outside my jersey on and off for 40 years. You have a chest protector…put it under the jersey, put it over the jersey…it’s like ears in the hat. I didn’t know that that was a thing that people even noticed…except on Vital.
Since Thor has had their newest generation of sentinel Deegan has been wearing one. Under the jersey mostly. I think in the past some of the Star guys ran the Alpinestars under protectors . The newest sentinel is a much lower profile and looks like its vented very well too.
