Can some of you '22 and '23 YZ450 owners share at what hour mark did you replace the top end?  40, 60, 80 hour mark?

Haven't gotten there yet due to going ass-over-teakettle and taking another clavicle, but I do plan on doing it at the 50hr mark. I wouldn't hesitate to go longer, but seeing the pics on the previous page, I'm happy to do it sooner as cheap insurance. With constant oil changes and air filter cleanings, I don't see myself having any issues. If I do, I'll be sure to share.

Edit: I'm on a 23

definitely took some time to set up. As other said tried everything, maps, gearing, sag, ect...

14/52 gearing, smooth linear map, 3mm forks and 104 sag. It's a race bike imo. I even refer to it as "my race bike" and so far I don't even race it! But, its fricken awesome. It's a joke how good it works. AHM suspension killed it for me.

The fitment was a little off for mine, the hole on the bottom didn't quite line up and there's a little gap between the skid plate and the bottom rails on the left side. It's very sturdy and good looking though.

Yes, that's the one. Just 2 bolts. I'm a little worried it'll fall off if it's muddy and heavy.

I've heard from a few buddies that have the '23 YZ450F that the suspension starts out really stiff.  One said it got way better after about 10 hours, no re-valve, just clicker adjustments.  The two other guys sent the suspension out for re-valve, said it was way worth the $ spent.  All guys are vet riders about my speed and weight.

My question to y'all that have some hours on your stock suspension, is it getting better?

Sorry if this has been asked, didn't want to re-read the entire 40+ pages.  Thanks

Ultimately - this is a bike for fast kids i think - the 22 was more of a vet bike. This years likes to be ridden hard and fast and perahps isn't a great VET or MASTERS bike.

I actually rode one yesterday for a few laps. It had 6 hours on it and the guy was same size and speed so I think the set up was on point. We both are vet experts. He had a mellower map and a fmf slip on installed. He said stock it was almost to much.sag was 102/forks at 5mm.

My thought was, great motor, forks were soft and dove (could be oil height or set up). Front end almost felt like it floats, I can see how some think it’s nervous compared to the old chassis which I had. Overall a pretty good bike if it can get set up right.

Kawi is good out of the box with springs for you weight. I think most, myself included can hop on the Kawi and within a lap or two feel like you’ve been riding it for months. They are great vet bikes that will now have horrible resale due to rebates and the new 24 coming out. Like others have said, if you keep your bike and put plenty of time on them it’s hard to beat the Kawi if you can pick one up cheap.

just my two cents

What do all you guys weigh? Sorry I'm just curious lol. I'm 60 years old mid pack B class rider weigh 210, run 280 fork oil level 3 mm fork height and feel like the forks are pretty close but maybe a tad soft. The rear has me confused, it seems soft but if I set the sag to 102 to 105 it seems like the rear is stiff  unless I run the high speed compression all the way out. So far I like the sag set at 110 the best which is crazy I guess but that's what I like. Just wondering if this is a riding too low in the stroke thing I read about and I just need a stiffer rear spring? Race Tech recommends a stiffer spring for the rear but a slightly softer spring for the front but I wouldn't want a softer spring in the front. 12 hours on the bike and I love it, when I get caught up the suspension will probably go to Enzo but that will be a while. Thanks for any advice.

Best chassis, best engine character!

Worst durability, worst airbox design.

Pretty much sums it up for 23 right guys?

None of those are accurate for me and my experience. Great chassis that needs some tinkering to get dialed in. Engine is really good, but I liked my '21 better. Durability is great as it's still a Yamaha. I'll take this airbox design over any others, although I did prefer my '21 for ease of maintenance.

Have any of you had your forks and shock serviced so fluids are fresh?

I have two rides in the rekluse plates. It wasn’t a huge improvement like it was on my kx450. I couldn’t feel like it was an upgrade on the Yamaha. I have the adjustment on the third setting which my plate stack called for. Maybe I could go to 2 to get more bite but it doesn’t seem so, I’d have to ask rekluse.

Think it'll hold up better than stock? Mine still seems fine but looking ahead.

I hope so since it costs a lot more. Guess I’ll find out.

My stock one started slipping at 10 hours. Got the rekluse clutch pack. This was my first time using rekluse and I was really impressed. Felt like it was a huge upgrade as it grabs much harder than stock.

Grabbed a GYTR glide plate & radiator braces as they were readily available from Yamaha and hoped it would be easy to get on & off for oil changes etc… install was going smoothly right up to determining the top two holes are drilled in the wrong place and no amount of twisting/flexing is gonna get the top left bolt fastened. Gonna have to re-drill this one now! Hope to hell the radiator braces have better quality control on fit & finish than this GYTR glide plate does! 🤬

Thanks!  Yeah, I have so many hobbies that I cycle through and get obsessed about (putting other ones on the shelf for months or years), so I've never felt the need to upgrade MX bikes regularly.  My 2013 still has a lot of life in it (since I hardly rode for the past 7 years after getting my ankle fused) and my main reasons for even thinking of getting a new bike are that I imagine a newer bike would feel a lot more light/nimble, I'd like to turn my 2013 into a snowbike and I'd really need to spend $1000-1500 if I wasn't going to replace it soon as the wheels/tires/brakes/chain, etc are pretty clapped out.  I broke a spoke last weekend and started looking at new wheels and other items but pretty much all of those items are going to be removed when I turn it into a snowbike so I'm better off getting a new bike now vs sinking a bunch in this bike.  These YZs look sweet though so not an easy decision.

I just got done giving a deposit and will pick it up tomorrow.  Out the door for $6897.  Damn, I want a YZ450 but I just couldn't pass up that price so maybe my next bike will be blue.

Don't forget the KX beat the new yz in a couple of shootouts and that bike is 4 years old . I rode the new yz and had a 19 kx . You made a wise choice .

I read through the last 15 pages hoping to read some comparisons from people who switched from a newer KX450.   I took 4 years off but am getting back into riding and am currently riding my 2013 KX450F.  Over the last few years I've been saying that my next bike would be a YZ450f but I have a lead on 2023 KX450 for under $7k OTD so I'm weighing if the new YZ is several grand better given that I'm 50 and just a weekend warrior.  In separate threads, I've read comments about how light and nimble the newer KX450s are (vs my 10 year old bike) and am curious how the YZ and KX compare in that department.  No doubt the YZ has the better engine, I like not having to buy a tuner and have always liked KYB but whether I go YZ or KX, I'll have the works done on the suspension so I'm not sure how much worse the Showa forks would be.  I'd never miss the few grand out of my wallet but I'm a frugal bastard so trying to figure out if the YZ is nearly 50% better for the nearly 50% premium.  Thanks!

Get the kx.

Dang you would think with all the GYTR hype they could get the holes right. How much did you pay for the stuff and where do you get it from the Yamaha shop? I found the GYTR web page, the brochure with all the parts but no prices, no available dates and no links to buy the stuff. I am mainly interested in the hydraulic clutch last I heard it was 300 bucks and available in August but that was just from internet posts nothing solid. Actually I am starting to like the stock clutch. Thanks!

Yes Sir, got both through the same Yamaha shop I got the bike from! $124 for the braces and $140 for the skid plate was MSRP for each part, minus the small discount I got after buying the bike from them. Give your fav O’ rite Yamaha shop a call, hopefully they can give you a price & availability too? My parts were ordered on Tuesday & arrived by the following Friday! 👍❗️

To be honest I didn’t know there was a setting for the ring? First race with it in I did have trouble keeping the front wheel on the ground coming out of the gate.

That must be why because mine almost feels soft off bottom then it catches. The setup sheet says measure your plate stack then set according to the thickness, mine ended up on 3.

Duuuude… are you F’n kidding me!!? You have solved the fit issue and now I feel like a dumbass! When I ordered this stuff the parts guy KNEW that I had gotten the 2023 the Friday before AND when I picked them up, the SAME guy talked with me about how the new 450 is all new & completely different! I never looked at the package just ASSUMING since we had talked about the 2023 he had ordered the RIGHT parts for the bike! After your post, I went and double checked and @&$#€£¥ it if the parts guy didn’t F-up my very first order on the new bike! My fault for ASSUMING they would get it right!      😡🤬 Guess I’ll be driving the 80 mile round trip to Shawnee AGAIN to pickup parts! 😤 👎

(Double checked the GYTR radiator braces & those are at least the correct part # for the 2023!)

Dunno if anyone is interested to know (or what glide plate you guys are running?) but this is latest on my effort to locate one for the new 2023 450. I ran back by the Yamaha shop to swap the 18-22 model I was sold on Tuesday for the correct one for the 2023. Turns out…per Yamaha’s own site, there is NO glide plate available for the new YZ450 yet! (You guys probably knew that!?)
As I am desperate to ride this weekend IF the weather cooperates AND I had already determined the previous model is a very close fit, I took the time to carefully elongate the two holes at the front of the skid plate by approx 4mm and the skid plate fits exactly and without issue now.
It’s kind of a pain and a little scary to buy a $140 part and then have to modify it before it can be installed, BUT thankfully the end result is a perfectly fitted GYTR skid plate!
NOW if only the psycho Oklahoma spring weather cooperates! 🤪 👍❗️

I look daily for a skid plate for this bike, Saw after your post it was a 250 skid plate you bought on Yamaha's website, bummer. Hope Cycra has something soon.

It almost looks like putting a couple flat washers between the bracket and motor mount on both sides would space both brackets out farther and line up with the holes
