So who’s decision was it to cut off Steve? The brothers, their agent, their family? Is it a good choice for their career? Seemed in the past they enjoyed talking with him, why the sudden change of tune?

Poll

Who called the black out?

It was not Mirtl.

5/18/2023 6:42pm

I doubt it was his agent.  Steve seems to work hard at gargling Mirtl on a regular basis.

I dare say they are both just so focused on their career and the media noise isnt needed. both Already have a ton of media to do with redbull and there own little gigs. plus press/media days. throw in Moto academy & Jettson donuts. They juggle a lot.

not much else to say or discuss other then wait for outdoors and see where Jett stacks up.

and wait for Hunter to see if its going to be another outdoors Lawrence blowout

I think it has something to do with Steve comments towards Hunter not wanting to be asked about his incident with Thrasher(or was it Smith). And also Hunter butting in to the deegan/smith incident in the press conference when he wouldn’t even talk about his own incident. Steve was critical of that as well.

Austin provmotorcycle racers seem to be a bit high maintenance. Lawrence's, Reed, Mladin, Gobert

I think it’s more the fact he would butt into that situation but media was asked not to ask Hunter about his incident. Kind of a double standard.

they are not the first mx racers to take Steve's criticism badly, and they wont be the last, how sports stars have very fragile ego's it seems,

most come around, as seen by the Josh Hill interview

Lars.

I don’t think so. Lars is working on letting keefer and Steve test sextons bike.

...If I had to guess, I would say their parents had may have had some significant input - Darren seems like a level headed man.

This could be the first time in motocross or supercross that two brothers have won all the championships they enter in the same calendar year.

The Lawrence brothers don't need the Pulp MX show (and the juvenile antics that come from it) to be successful or well known.

It’s not just pulp. Apparently they are only doing nbc/peacock related interviews for the foreseeable future. This is according to Steve.

Maybe it's just racers or some don't want to be in media 24/7 because it certainly isn't exclusive to Aussies when you have tomac, RV, js7 and RC which is fine more power to them.

...they are the new stars of this sport - well spoken, handsome young athletes with exceptional maturity and a great work ethic.

It's not like not talking to self- styled media guys will hurt their image - the line to get Jettson doughnuts, autographs and photos will be just as long...

Yeah, the pressure cooker is turned way up when you are at the sharp end of the pack and the last thing you want tondo is deal with some media guys BS. Matthes was kind of a dick about Jett not moving up, Jett did stomp everyone this year though. The whole don't ask questions about the pass thing was dumb on the Lawrence's part.

Forgot to include Stoner on that list, I was a big fan of his when he was racing, he was a prickly pear too.

IMO, nobody expects anybody to be in the media, 24/7…. but why not talk to Steve for 5 mins every once in awhile?  I think it’s a mistake. I would understand if Steve was some kind of pariah like Cooksey, but he’s not.

I am surprised HRC allows them to “ban” arguable the largest voice in moto media. They are avoiding it because they are sensitive little flowers, but on the other hand it’s fine for Hunter to lecture the media about something he wasn’t part of lol (Thrasher/Deegan incident).

I'm going to quote Soggy, because apparently some of you don't read the entire thread before you chime in with how you think it should be.

I bet once Jett starts getting tuned up by Sexton and Dylan, and J Coop and RJ start handing Huntah his ass. They will kill to be a guest on Pulpmx again. Don't underestimate Steve's pull in the industry. Just saying.

Then they're f****d. Does NBC/ Peacock put out any moto content to the real fans that watch the races?

Not really. Both are good riders, but I think they (Jett) especially are in for a rude awakening. Your playing with the big boys now, you're gifted MXDN win is a bit different than racing the Nationals. We will find out and I will eat crow if I'm wrong. But that doesn't happen very often.

They'll be fine. NBC/Peacock only puts out race coverage, but their bread and butter is mainstream content...which the Lawrence brothers were damn near tailor made for.
