All the same guys would be at the top, but I think you'd see their records change a little. There are definitely differences between the engines and they would amplify some guys' strengths and others' weaknesses.

Give Kenny 2007 RM250 with factory engine, nice setup of suspension, and he will still find the way to put it on the box among all four strokes.

Generally speaking, it’s going to increase the skill gap. In my opinion, that would favor Roczen and Tomac, and hinder guys like Anderson and Webb. Not that they aren’t skilled by any means. They’re amazing. I just feel Tomac and especially Roczen would benefit tremendously.

Side note, I’m still salty the four stroke took over in 06. I just wanted one full season of Reed, Stewart, and Carmichael on the 250. The 4 stroke really hindered Reed, partly because the Yamaha wasn’t very good, partly because Stewart and Carmichael adapted better, and partly because his style suited the 250 more. We were robbed.

Agreed with the skill gap. I imagine Roczen adapting the most quickly and Tomac having the most upside. His "beast mode" on a 250 2 stroke would be great to watch.

Funny, when it was RC4 and Windham going at it in the early 2000's, you had two different riding styles going very close to the same speed..........so.........

There ain't a 250 two stroke on the planet keeping up with these factory 450s. Stop the non sense lmao.

My prediction is those would be the most anticipated rounds. I’d travel to attend that.

I’d be fine with the SX being the 2t series and outdoors being the 4t series.

Man , I'm not sure who would be the fastest out there , but can you imagine a full gate of 40 super fast dudes , all on  prepped ( some factory )  250 2 strokes?  I'm glad I got to witness it up until mid 2000's.  To see it now would be amazing.

Marv would put the 2-5 in “125”, and then again into “250” Cool

Tomac is so well rounded and the way he uses the clutch it’d be hard to bet against him.

Dungey did look damn good in straight rhythm on one. Body position and english looked more Hanny like.

Barcia is one of the last guys of the current crop to have raced a 125 in amateurs.

The list is enormous of current pros to race a 125 in amateurs.

Lot's of current pros raced the schoolboy 1 class back in the day and even more current have raced the actual 125 class at loretta's.

Tomac's clutch usage suits it well. Roczens smooth riding style and timing are suitable too. ET3 beast mode would be insane though. Bring back 2015 Tomac and 2016 Roczen and toss them on 250's..damn that would be good.

Tomac.

Someone like Sexton would be slower on a 2 stroke imho

So you think Sexton is only as good as he is because he’s on a four stroke? 🤨

As Macho Man Randy Savage once said… The cream always rises to the top.

Points leader has to ride a two stroke. Handicap to keep points race close.

RC dodged a bullet by being out during 04 SX and then went to Suzuki to improve his chances against Reed for 05 SX (RC’s words). But Yamaha blew it anyway by going to the aluminium frame in 05.

Reedy definitely didn’t adapt to the four stroke as quick as RC and Stew. His style on that steely YZ250 was so sweet, very similar to MC.

Look how good Kenny was on that Yamaha after a few days. We got to see it live in action and not just some edited video were you can spend all day making a part look good. I think Eli kills the motor, he's nearly killing his motors now

I think that YZF in 06-07 sucked, too.

I’m not so sure on 2004 though. RC stated he was going to race the 450 indoors. Kdub won 5 races against chad that year on that bike and it was a pretty big advantage. I think RC woulda been fine.

Yes RC was looking at options for 04 SX, because Reed had him covered for speed in the second half of 03 SX, (again RC’s words).

Reed was more patient in 04 after a few rookie mistakes early in 03 cost him that title. No matter which Honda RC was on, I still stand by him dodging a bullet that would have changed his amazing title run record.

The same riders would be winning no matter what size engine of type of engine. You guys put way to much stock into the bike!

I'm not so sure about that.

If that's the case, how come guys that won a lot of 250 races and/or championships like Craig, McElrath, Plessinger, Stewart, Wilson, Savatgy, etc., are not winning races in the 450 class?
