Headed over to Clanton Al. this past weekend for round 3 of the SETRA HS series. The track is called Tree Farm. Again we were treated to perfect weather and a damp tacky track thanks to some rain on Thursday.
Jr. Worked on his starts last week and was fourth off the line of the 200/250/and open C class.

The track was made up of a 13 mile loop that included a lot of old school grasstrack, power lines, logging roads and about 5 miles of really tight trail.
Here Luke Intile is hauling down a little downhill section that leads into the tight trail.

Kevin Agee Had the 200's covered untill his clutch went south.

The overall winner in the grass track section, of course he was on a finely tuned 2 stroke.

A nice shot from the grass track (with my wifes pocket camera)

A small artisic interlude

They through in a little Endurocross section to make things interesting.

So halfway through the third lap I noticed the leaders bike clutch was slipping and the kid in second who had been 1:30 seconds in front of Jr. was riding like he was ready for the race to end.
Then Jr comes through the section and is on the pipe and charging.

When Jr. comes through the scoring tent to start the 4th and final lap he is only 27sec. behind the leader and can see him up ahead and pins the throttle. The race was going to be 52 miles and in the past 2 weeks the kid has done 45 mile races with no fueling and a gallon of gas left but this race is much faster and I start to worry about fuel. So I ask some of the guys in the pits and sure enough they are using a lot more fuel!
I grab the gass can and take off into the woods to meet the kid on the trail at the halfway point. He is in the lead at this point so we do a quick splash and go and he keeps the lead.
Here at the end of 2hrs + and the kid is looking strong and smooth.

It was really cool for me that my old Buddy King Kelly through the checker for Jr;'s first win.

The score board says it all

With a 4th, a 3rd and 1st. I think he is leading the series now but its way early in the season and he has lots of fast competition.
Not much of a race report with the bad pics (little camera) and all the focus on my kid but it was kind of a big day for us.

King Kelly- that guy is a total riot. You see where Kevin gets it from.
He zinged me good the first time I met him-- but I can't repeat what he said here.
The report made me smile!
Oh, and congrats to you...dirt scoot racing is a TEAM sport...he couldn't have done it without you!
Thanks for the report.
Looks like lots of fun. Congratulations.
When the off road season winds down in the late spring we will take in some moto.
Nothing better to build up the aggressiveness and cornering speed.
Pit Row
My Dad is 66 and still races. We had a race weekend I'd rather forget (son crashed while leading, I had a flat after 30 minutes, my dad crashed) but 3 generations all racing together was awesome. Plus, it has been keeping Jr. out of trouble in his teen years.
The last time Jr. saw you race his remark was " Dad that Brad guy was not the fastest rider I saw today, but no one rode harder than he did"
So thank you for showing him what its all about Bud.
for the both of ya
Glad for you and family Larry. Hope yours and Jr's racing days are always this good.
