Yeah it worked out fine this time so it was entertaining, but the reality is it was completely out of control so it could have ended horribly for RJ, Jett or both. A good litmus test is, would the average fan be outraged it Friese or Barcia did this? I think the answer is obvious there haha
While I think it was a bad decision, I'm not sure I could make a better one with the adrenaline and potential financial upside involved. Will cheer for RJ next year if he puts it all together and claims the title.
Also is this the first takeout to involve a lapper as a pick and roll/screen?
A for effort!
Got dammit Leroy!

I liked the commitment and desire but after they were on the ground it looked like he was going for Jett’s kill switch…very Allessish…
I guess husky has invented boost mode like on video games. Turned him into a missle.
What a dumbass. He got exactly what he deserved. Leave it up to hampshire to blow his entire race trying to be the biggest idiot on the track with a move like that.

That was the dumbest, most awesome thing I’ve seen in a long time! He came into the turn with about a 2% chance of making it, lol!

Theses 2 posts shows how mad the world is today!!!Congratulations
it is now a days.
Exactly this! Last corner , in a mud race , your main rival in front of you......RJ did exactly what any racer worth a shit would of done. He freakin' sent it! Gave it his all.
As Jett said, he risked losing 20 points to gain 2. Apparently he thought it was all-or-nothing that night, he sure did go for it. I don't think he would have been completely out of the title if he didn't go for the kill there, maybe he thought differently. Can't say I agree with the move specifically, but I respect the effort.
This move proves why one guy is a winner and the other guy will never be.The „show“ was good but the result was bad.
Had it been Vince Friese or Justin Barcia making a desperate last ditch out of control move to take out the points leader, this forum would have gone out of it's mind, but because it's RJ Hampshire he gets a free pass. I've got no problem with aggressive racing where a faster rider bumps another rider while trying to get around him, but to blatantly come in Mach 2 at a speed he absolutely knew he wouldn't be able to make the turn and pile drive right into Jett Lawrence, it looks like a straight up take out move. If slower riders want to turn Supercross into a Demo Derby, good! let it be a free for all and when the Checker flag flies only 1 rider is left standing, but if were going to have a race where the most skilled and fastest rider wins, idiot moves like that shouldn't be celebrated even though it was kind of entertaining.
I loved it. Dude hung his balls out and said, “hold my beer.”
Made for a thrilling finish.
Bennick came in hot like that in the futures race...totally epic attempt
The dude was sending it but I really don’t think he meant to come in that hard. Looked like he got out off the race line and there was 0 traction
You’re not wrong about that, but I’ve never seen Barcia or freezer send it in with that kind of heart/lack of any kind of thinking. It was awesome because it was so incredibly dumb, it didn’t feel like a calculated take out move, more like last lap enthusiasm holding the throttle open waaayyy too long, followed by “shitshitshitshit” being yelled into his helmet while diving into the mud.
Sorta like crossing Brandon’s first race with pro level speed?
Pit Row
1sr off , RJ has never been known as a dirty rider. He doesn't have that kind of record. 2nd , he's been getting beat by Jett all season , and I saw it as a dude trying to put everything on the line , because nothing else has worked. A dude willing to fight for every point towards the end of the season.....is someone I respect the hell out of.
Also.....if he would of just settled ( again ) he would get flamed for not trying hard enough. Actually RJ has never really " settled " at all.....puts it all out there. Mad respect.
This will be the iconic photo for the 2023 season, whenever I see this photo in the future, I won't necessarily remember the results but I will remember RJ giving his all at East Rutherford.
RJ did have a good mathematical chance before the crash, now not so much.
Actually, probably no chance at all now.
He should be disappointed in himself.
I went from wtf and a little angry to laughing when they showed the replay. He definitely sent it into that corner
RJ made a bit of history he can hold on to for the rest of his life
Super entertaining.
Yes, he did throw away a podium though. Maybe whiskey throttle a bit and then no way to stop in the mud? Has RJ commented about his side of the story yet? Would love to hear.
Y’all are soft as butter or just a lot of trolls. It was a high risk, high reward move.. RJ missed on both and who gives af. It adds to the spectacle of SX. Line up, race next Saturday and hope for more of the same.
I feel like he was trying for the opposite of what happened to happen.
If rj cleaned out jett and rj crossed the line in 2nd. And knocked jett down to 10-12th. Then the points gap would have reduced from 26 down to 15 or something. I believe that was his goal.
It back fired now its out to 39. Jett only needs 13 points to win
The Lawrence Brothers seemed a bit amused when they saw the replay and Jett Lawrence seemed to handle it pretty well, I remember in Seattle when Cameron McAdoo crashed into him and he seemed like he was a little pissed, because a desperate McAdoo was riding over his head trying to beat Jett. I sense the same fustration with RJ Hampshire and I'm sure he's getting tired of losing to Lawrence every weekend. I can't imagine what's going through the mind of someone who desperately wants to win AMA championships and would be if it wasn't for that ONE! guy that's in your way and faster. Think of how many Championships James Stewart, Kevin Windham and Chad Reed would have gotten if they hadn't had RC and RV to contend with. Like they say, 2nd Place is the 1st Loser and the AMA Championship and #1 plate is what sets your legacy.
i thought it was funny when he couldn't get his bike out of the goo......karma IS and WILL be a BITCH!.......
all good that neither got hurt anyways.........
None of us should be surprised, He is a Hampshire after all and they all love playing in the mud LOL
Absolute facts. Dumbest move I've eve seen in the history of the sport
