So, what's up with Ando?

He really hasn't performed like he did last year. I was hoping he was going to take a bit of warming up after a slow start to the sx season, but it just isn't coming.

What can be up?

It cant be the bike, the platform hasn't changed and he could revert to the settings he had success with last year.
Is he 'comfy' with having a secure job?
Is he bored with the bike/team? (Seemed like he got bored at Husqvarna too)
A niggling injury we dont know about?

Note: This isn't a hate on Ando thread, merely discussing why he isn't on the same form as last year.

Isn't  Anderson's Kawasaki contract up this season? AC just signed an extension...and the word is that Kawasaki has been "fishing" with other riders who'll be available for 2024. I don't see Kawie fielding a 3-man 450 team in 2024, so maybe he knows his future isn't on the green team. Is Triumph courting him? Maybe it's a combination of all you mentioned. He sure doesn't look on point at all.

Oh I didn't know his Kawasaki contract was up at the end of this year. He certainly doesn't look like a man desperate to impress and keep his job. Maybe he is secure elsewhere.. Triumph? Who knows..

I think he's trying his ass off every weekend and the commentators are punching Tomac, sexton,Webb down your throat each weekend.

He's right there.

Average starts, heat of the moment mistakes (at least the first part of the season), & maybe more of a competitive top 5 this year? Barcia improved this year. Roczen improved this year. Webb is up. Maybe he hasn’t found those 2% gains the others have.

At this level, in any top tier sport, the smallest gains could mean a win or a loss. Here’s to hoping he figures it out!

Seems like he is in a bit of a slump to me.

This year, he knocked himself out of the title hunt pretty early on in the series. Compared to last year that had to be extremely disappointing. He was in the hunt most of the series last year. I hope he can have some good races before the series ends to get some of his mojo back for next year.

Correct. That doesn't mean they havent already acquired his services for when their 450 is ready.

Could be for testing only throughout '24, ready to break out in '25. I know its not normal, but its not inconceivable .

Could be right.
He might have effectively given up on it and is throwing testing at outdoors already- lets hope he blows the doors off come outdoors!

He should have won 3 or more races at this point. Only he knows what's wrong I suppose.

He’s the same age as Tomac right? Tomac doing what he’s doing at age 30 is pretty unheard of. Maybe he took a slight step backward like many do around this age.

I agree...but from what I can tell, Eli Tomac is by far one of the most fit riders on the line. He works hard at it, and doesn'r seem to be a partier or one who has a lot of extracurricular activities. He focuses on the Championship...and being a family man. I don't know much about Anderson's weekly regimen at all, but he doesn't seem to be one of those guys who works his ass off every week. I could be dead wrong about that, but at the age Tomac and a few of these guys...I would think you have to be 100% in it to win it, or you fall off the pace. I'm surprised that Barcia is also fast as hell at his age. Isn't he 30, or close to it?

I can't buy into this narrative for Anderson.

You don't win 7 races last year and 0 the next and toss it up to being 12 months older. He went 4 years without winning a race after his title only to have his best season ever, being 4 years older.

He's just in a slump. I think Tomac, Webb, Sexton are also just really really good this year.

Your body reaches it's physical and mental prime at 30.

Mr. Anderson has a very beautiful wife. He may not be getting the rest he needs.

Eh, more often than not he's a little off the pace of the top 2 or 3 guys at any given round. Couple that with mostly mediocre starts and he's struggling to place top 5. He simply isn't quite as fast as he was last season, and Sexton, Webb, Barcia, and Roczen are all better than they were last year as well. He would've had to either stay as fast, or get faster, to win multiple races and be a podium guy again.

What makes Anderson seem like he doesn't work his ass off every week? Just curious what you've seen to draw that conclusion?

He's got a new wife and a baby coming any week now, I think? There's a lot going on in his camp.

To me it looks like he's just not charging as hard. When he eats it early in a moto or someone passes him anything shy of clean he gets the charge on. Remember Hangtown last year? That's the charge I'm referring to.

He works hard with Tickle, and I'm sure he's fit. But maybe he takes a "year" off after outdoors this season to work with the Triumph guys on the 450. Then comes back on Bobby's team in 2025 as the "Vet" guy.

Big time Ando fan over here, so maybe I'm biased.

I was really hoping we would see the Anderson of last year, and now im super intrigued to see what he does in 2024. I'm assuming he will be on a triumph in 2025 to finish out his career, but have no clue what he will do for a filler year, especially if he doesnt stay with Kawi

Like Grandma used to say…”The proof is in the pudding.” I don’t have a clue really as to how fit Anderson is, or is not. I don’t know if he does train his ass off or not. All I can see is that he’s gone from being a possible title contender to letting Tomac, Sexton, Cooper & even Barcia hand his ass to him most every round. Hard to be doing what they’re doing and getting beaten by them each week.

How’s that?

That's a theory I suppose. I imagine AP and Webb do the exact same training together but why does Webb beat AP so often? AP is "working his ass of" as you say like Webb does? If he's doing the same thing by your logic AP should be getting the same results.

I've heard a lot of people say on podcasts Anderson is working just as hard as anyone. Same with Barcia. He is a training machine. Working your ass off doesn't always produce race wins though.

This just goes to show that these guys are all human and they are much more emotionally invested when they are in a title fight.  He needs a 1 year extension or a 1 year deal until he signs with Bobby Hewitt and Triumph in 25

Sexton should've won 4. Plessinger should've won one. Tomac left two on the table.

Winning races is a lot harder than 'should have won'.

Smacked his head a bit; but, seemed ok by the end of the night. His helmet did it’s job and other than a bit of a red-friction mark above his brow, he looked pretty good. Think he’s gonna be a bit sore for a coupl’a days; but, Broc will have him back in the saddle…soon.

Bike was twisted…Laughing

New wife after a very brief courtship, kid on the way, falling out with the Team Fried crew (they’re still cool with each other but losing close friends is hard), run-ins with Barcia etc. He seems to be focused on other things, not winning a championship. Kawi will probably pick him up again for another season and I’m sure Bobby Hewitt already has a bug in his ear to join Triumph in 2025 once they start a 450 program. At one point I really thought the Team Fried thing would have been his cash cow after he retires but without the core crew and his current lack of results, I just hope he can turn it around at this point. It’s going to be a long summer for team Kawi.
